Benjamin Thomas
Benjamin Thomas asked K.M. Weiland:

Howdy! Of course I've been learning a lot about story structure. Which has been very enlightening. But recently I've also been pondering the matter of storytelling. So I figured why not ask. What is the relationship between story structure and storytelling? Or is storytelling an umbrella term for everything? Or does storytelling have its own elements?

K.M. Weiland Storytelling, in my view, is more of an esoteric umbrella term. Storytelling is the act of making up a story. It applies to the guy at the bar talking to his buddies just as much as a novelist or screenwriter.

Storytelling is more the right-brain creative part of the process, while structure and other techniques are the left-brain logical side of the process, which streamline stories into their most powerful forms.
