Hi James, I'm wondering how you get all your books. I need access to more audiobooks since I have gone through most of my library's supply. I use Overdrive and really enjoy it. But there may be other alternatives . . . Any ideas for me? Thanks! Elly

Hi Elly,
I buy all of my books--90% of them from my local independent bookstore, which has an excellent selection of crime novels and which will order anything they don't have. Once I read and enjoy a book, I want to have it around so that I can re-read it again if I choose. This is particularly true of series where I get attached to a character and periodically re-read the series. I found that depending on the library really didn't work very well for me because they tend to purge their collections of books I might want to read again or because someone has checked out the book I'm looking for. The problem with this approach, of course is that I am running out of wall space in my house for new bookcases and may have to start storing them in the garage.
I really haven't much experience with audio books, since I prefer to read rather than listen, so I'm afraid I'm probably not of much help to you here.
Sorry about that!
Jim

James, do you remember which series of mystery/crime novels featured a detective that was known for the sumptuous sandwiches he always fixed for himself after work? He always ate them over the sink because he'd be dripping Russian dressing or something from them. He accompanied it with a favorite beer he'd mention by name. My hubby and I were trying to remember the character or author but It's been 25 years ago.

Hi James, I'm a crime/mystery fan myself, and even taught myself to read with Dame Christie. I'm currently having my own "Mid-20th Century American Crime Readathon" had have found some real gems . My questions are: Who do you think is the most overlooked American crime writer? And if you had to name one or more criminally overlooked crime novels, what would they be? I don't want to miss the best of crime writing!

Have you read any of Jonathan Dunsky's books? The main character is a PI holocaust survivor from Hungary who spent time in Auschwitz. The series takes place in Tel Aviv in the early 1950s. He has a webinar about his first book, TEN YEARS GONE, coming up next month. https://jccvictoria.ca/nov-14-2022/?fbclid=IwAR2cnZkU6iyOdLwRDFPfe2SJz9JErpaq3bzG6NTfiBSBtDqINPWPlG7DDXk
