I'm curious. I've not read your novel "Smoke" yet, but it's on my list of books to purchase very soon! Where did you get your idea for the story from? How did you do your research for the book (such as talking to fire departments or visiting wildland fire scenes)? Did you ever experience anything of the book in person? Thanks!

Catherine McKenzie Thanks! I got the idea when friends of mine who live in a small town had their town threatened by a wild fire several years ago. It made me think about what that sort of thing could do to a person and their relationships. I did lots of online research, I spoke with someone who had done some wild-land firefighting and I watched lots of videos of fires online.
