Yeaaaaaaaaaah, I am so excited that the book arrived so quickly. I swear that it takes longer to get to PA (only one state away), than it does to cross the pond.

Had to look up "avuncular" in the old Funk & Wagnalls...does that mean I get to call you Uncle Paul from now on???

Very excited about the possibility of you working on a book trailer for SOA. Will hold breath until you finish the book (I have been told I look good in blue, but ... please read fast).

message 52: by Paul (new)

Paul I do read fast. Specially something new and good.

(Chides Dee gently: possibility? I told you I would do your book trailer, so unless you get a better offer from e.g. Quentin Tarrentino or Spielberg, I'm doing it. OK? OK? You talkin' to me? Huh? Huh?

Did I sound like Robert de Niro there?

Why yes...I am very impressed with your impression of Bobby :]

Have not heard from Spielberg today, but I am doing an interview with one of the head animators for DreamWorks this weekend…I will send you the link when it is published, hopefully within the next week or so.

Geez, I can't remember the last time I had been chided...this is proving to be a fun day after all. Chides and "avuncular" hugs ... Whoo Hoo!

Oh, and don't read SOA too fast...as there are a lot of little details that could be missed by doing so.

Not sure if I mentioned...SOA is very much a manly-man story...has lots of testosterone moments and many violence scenes...Although the story keeps to traditional Arthurian Legends, it is still steeped in historical accuracy, with a smattering of fantasy tossed into the mix.

message 54: by Paul (new)

Paul A manly-man story - oooh, I'll like that! (he pouts) :]

At my age, with a smattering of white beard, I can come across as either, depending on circumstance, Santa Claus or Satan Claws. Imagine a cross between luvvie Richard Attenborough and Hannibal Lector.

And wouldn't that be a fun film?

Party in Paul's cubical :]

As to SOA being a manly-man story. Some people think of Arthurian tales as Arthurian Romances.

Which SOA is not...although there is one chapter with "the brothers" and a couple of the sisters' of Avalon, bathing in the Walbrook stream.

message 57: by Paul (new)

Paul Hi Dee!

Welcome to my cubicle.

Hope you don't mind the soundtrack to 'Gladiator' belting out at full volume; to be followed by 'Lord of the Rings' and the Dollar movies - loved Morricone's stuff!

Fava beans and a human liver - sou/sou/sou (in a hockey mask).

Chianti? OK, but bear in mind my partly Anglo-Saxon heritage, wench. Ale, mead and strong spirits next time please :]

Feel free to invite others - 'cos I'm here online for a while now.

Ok, I posted an invitation to the party in the Party Update room.

Remember that we are in a different time zone...Not sure if it is 5 or 6 hours different from NY, but many of the group are out on the "left" coast.

message 60: by Paul (new)

Paul OK Dee, I'll just sit in the corner with my crates of Hobgoblin, Bishop's Finger, Spitfire (don't beers have wonderful names - a bit ilke lavatories - Civitas and Gravitas are my faves) and a few bottles of JD and rum (Pussers or Woods 100 proof); those with juvenile palates can have it with mixers; those who are underage can stick to the soft stuff.

And we'll just kick back and shoot the breeze for a while; all creatives together.

Party on!

Either evil genius or you have tossed back a wee too many bottles of ale :]

message 65: by Paul (last edited Feb 07, 2009 10:15AM) (new)

Paul Dee,

How's the mead? I have some from Lindisfarne (or if you prefer Holy Isle) - a pub called 'The Iron Bedstead'. Great book by Gordon Honeycombe called 'Dragon under the Hill'. You must read it.

(Opens bottle of Bishop's Fimger, pours carefully, quaffs deeply, sighs in appreciation; pours small JD and sips carefully; it might be a long night)

There ya go...Always come prepared is my motto :)

message 73: by Paul (new)

Paul Yeah, it's a bit strange. I have this commitment to write a film script in a month, April, and it says 100 pages. Well, 1 page of script equals one minute of film time, and I always aim for a 2-hour film. So I guess I'll over-achieve. I have the ideas, and I can picture the main protagonists. They're not quitr my friends and enemies yet, but by April, they'll be there.

Not quite sure what you mean by too many? I can still find ther floor :]

message 74: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 3382 comments Mod
Well as long as the floor does not become the ceiling you are in good shape :)

Is this the vampire (or was it werewolf) script?

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmmm. I was reading Twilight for the zillionth time, but then I was reading Birdwing. Now I'm wishing I could read Zen and the Art of Faking It again. It was funny. The author has a lot of voice. Thanks for the Sour Straws. The Mountain Dew is a third full now...
Wow, Paul, that sounds really cool! Good luck on it.

message 83: by Paul (new)

Paul Dee, no, set in El Paso and Mexico. It is typical Tarrentino fodder.

The vampire script is alive and well.

The real basie is - hahaha - I'm not telling you all. Will post it soon when it's finished

Sarah, I've never read Twilight. Opinions vary. What's yours?

Does it have dancing? Or just blood guts and gore?

message 87: by Paul (new)

Paul Dee, sorry, what a poor host I am. Here, please accept this full flagon of henuine Lindisfarne mead. An entire quart!

You all should read, after Sun Tzu, the 'Book of Five Rings' by Miyamoto Musashi. In translation, if you can't handle the Japanese.

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 3382 comments Mod
WOw I am impressed ... The Art of War is a great read.

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

I think Stephanie Meyer is an excellent writer. If you read it and like it, you might consider The Host as well. Despite the "girl book" stereotype, I am aware of several males that have read Twilight and liked it. Don't judge a book by its movie, and don't judge a book if you haven't read it, of course! I'm not a Twilight freak, but I'm a fan. It's an alternative to staring at the ceiling in boredom after getting kicked off the computer.
