Paul Only 2,014 words today,or rather yesterday. Very pushed for time due to work. Still, those words comprise The Symbiont Chapters 17 and 18.

Enjoy.

message 203: by Paul (new)

Paul I know. 12.5 hours work and I didn't get a chance to do any writing during it! I had to squeeze in a couple of hours elsewhere.

Incidentally, you might have noticed that the writing in The Symbiont is becoming more and more skeletal. I started off this book writing what would roughly be the final draft, full of detail, character development and so on.

Now I'm dismissing in a paragraph what most would spend six chapters on; leaping across universes, technologies and centuries in a line.
The ideas are coming so thick and fast that I can't keep up at a normal pace, so I'm reduced to writing a sort of shorthand. I've written some 60 pages, which, when I can relax and write the full version, will be fleshed out and clothed to about 250 pages.

I'm afraid the story is becoming difficult for anyone other than me to understand, for which I apologise. The second draft will be much clearer.

Honest!

*Plops down in the big comfy chair across from your desk*

Hmm, I was with your story until chapter 12, after that...well...it made me feel very...blonde.

*Fluffs hair and shrugs*

So, where are the vampires?

*Smiles innocently*

message 205: by Paul (new)

Paul Yes, I know what you mean. To be fair, the book is packed full of allusions that hardened SF fans would maybe pick up, which saves an awful lot of writing.

Personally, I think that the first three bits of Ch 15 are perhaps the best writing I've done in the book.

Vampires ... hmmm ... so Lynch's first mission as emissary is to broker a peaceful settlement with a race of relentless, blood-thirsty space-faring vampires.

What a great idea!

That will be Ch 19 and onwards then - today and subsequent days!

Actual dragons in CH 22, a slave race in Ch 25, intelligent seven foot preying mantids in Ch 28, and a slam bang finale from Ch 29 - 31, resolution in Ch 32, and then a subsequent series of novellas featuring our hero and heroine :-)

Or something like that...

message 206: by Paul (new)

Paul Incidentally, I've rung for tea and scones. Should behere any minute now.

*Leans elbows on desk*

Hmmm, different vampires. Sparkly vampires.

*bats eyelashes and smiles a crocked half-smile*

Oh, Scones! I love scones and tea.

message 208: by Paul (new)

Paul Vampires that glow in the dark - kind of hard to sneak up on people then? Deliberate vampires - ones that have created themselves by genetic tinkering? Undiscovered vampires that all managed to get dumped on the same planet and took control (in the background)?

Do vampires fluoresce in ultra-violet? they could be sparkly then!

Shape-shifting alien predators that control their human population from the shadows - oh no, that's one of my next books - "Resurrection".

Just no fangless vampires that date teenagers and go to high school. Please :-)

We have strawberry jam and double cream to go with the scones. Real butter of course. Go on, live dangerously.

There you go, vampires that have to drink blood because they have a dangerously high cholesterol count!

Umm Jam and double cream...Ok, just a little real butter too.
*Rubs hands with glee, then slathers the scone with goodies*

Mmmmm Yum-o

*sips tea*

That is ok, I can wait for Resurrection.

*takes a bite out of the scone*

message 215: by Paul (new)

Paul Ok, I'll be heading off soon.

So, this is where we're at:

A vampire with the chisseled good looks of a Michaelangelo sculpture; the charm of a George Clooney; the intelligence of Einstein and the personality of a rabid wolf. Who may glow in the dark. And turn into some scaled, taloned, winged thing when seriously pissed off.

No problem :-)

See you later. Help yourself to more tea and scones.

Talons - check; hair - check; fangs -check; wings - what's this? Wings?

Burped amd incinerated half the furniture; this is not right! Checked in the mirror.

message 224: by Paul (new)

Paul Well, I let myself down yesterday. Only 939 words.

It was the glowing vampires thing that got me stuck...

So I'll just re-interpret the rules and say it's got to be 14,000 words per week, in which case I'm OK.

message 225: by T.O.L.I. (new)

T.O.L.I. (taleoflostink) | 1367 comments woh! that is still a really great count....way better then mine!

How are my two favorite writers doing this morning?

*Plops down in Paul's big overstuffed chair*

message 227: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 3382 comments Mod
Hey Paul,

Sorry about throwing your writing day off yesterday. It was unfair of me to request your that you write sparkly when you nature is to write dark. I can’t picture your vampires wearing white linen suites.

However 939 is very respectable word count, you are the most prolific writing that I know. Which is saying a lot!

message 228: by Paul (new)

Paul Hey Dee and Toli!

Welcome back. I did manage to get the vampires glowing in the moonlight, which is something :-)

Speaking of vampires, I've finished blocking out my 15 minute short script on vampires, so I'll get to writing that soon.

Lovely day here, sun shining,, birds coughing...

Hey Paul,

Whew, I am glad that I did not disturb your inner-writer too much {insert wicked smile here}.

I am very excited to read your vampire script. I know it will be too much fun!

We actually have blue skies here as well...which is very nice, as it snowed another 2 feet yesterday. Birds are frozen in trees ;]

Yippie, Vampire Script, too much fun!

Sorry I missed the workshop. You should hold one in our group as well. We could see if Roni and Kenzie would let us have a gathering hall. Or you could just take over the party room :]

Ok, I am off to read what you wrote today...great word count by the way! Whoo! Woo!

message 237: by Paul (new)

message 241: by Paul (new)

Paul Hi Dee,

Sorry - see post 237. I uploaded it there because it's not really fiction. Well in fact, it isn't fiction at all!

It's a Word document, so let me know if you can't open it, and I'll upload it as a PDF file instead.

message 242: by Paul (new)

There were just a TON of documents in the link, and I could not find the Global Warming one.

Not confused by article, silly. I may be blonde, but I am not "That" blonde :)

Great paper. You make some excellent points!

The planet has been hotter in the past, many times; it has been colder in the past, many times. It will be both hotter and colder in the future. It is heading in one of those directions now, but I couldn’t tell you which one.

I admit that I enjoy hugging the trees from time to time :]
