Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I had to restart my knitting AGAIN!

Thankfully this time I had my mum handy to help out. Turns out I had been casting on in an unnecessarily awkward way (trust me) and now can do it much quicker. I'm also about an inch into it and only have a couple more cm's to go before I can decrease my stitches :o)

How frustrating - after all this though you will be an experienced knitter! We learn from our mistakes..

Sounds lovely, and we'd love to see photos. You can upload photos to the group - at the top right hand corner of the screen, under UK Amazon Kindle Forum, you will find lots of headings - photos is in the centre. Once you've uploaded them you could just copy and paste the link to your photo in this thread. Or if you are on facebook, or pinterest or have your photo anywhere on the web, you could copy and paste that link here... Hope that makes sense..?

Minor set back - the royal blue yarn that I need to finished brother-in-law's blanket hasn't come in to the shop yet, although it was expected yesterday! I feel too poorly to go into town to check today. I'm not going to let myself get stressed about it - if I haven't finished it in time for their visit next week (when my sister wants to take it away as a present for her husband), then I will post it up to them later!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Can you ring the shop and ask them? Then if they have it they could hold some over for you till tomorrow? or even later on if you feel better

I know on of the ladies in the shop, so she'll keep some for me. I may phone to be sure though, as she doesn't work there every day...

message 208: by Pauline (new)

Pauline Byrne | 26 comments It's been so cold lately I've decided to make some leg warmers and matching wrist warmers. Quick and easy to knit up. My problem is the sewing up at the end. I currently have two cardigans and a hooded scarf thing that I've finished knitting, but haven't gotten around to sewing up - nightmare!!!!

message 209: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't knit - but I do find the sewing up my least favourite part of crochet, that and weaving in all the loose ends! I try to do that as I go, but it's not always possible and I usually end up spending an hour or so weaving in and snipping off the loos threads..

message 210: by Pauline (new)

Pauline Byrne | 26 comments I tried to get my sister to do all my sewing up for me but she wasn't having any of it. I'm going to make a concerted effort to finish the sewing up, then I have a gorgeous jacket to knit!!!!

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I always got mum to do the sewing up and tidying up when I did any knitting.

Nicola Palmer | 255 comments Thanks Karen! Just got the Christmas Gifts one :)

I'm hoping to learn to knit properly soon - I'd love to make knitted toys! All I can remember from school is knitting squares for patchwork blankets.

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

I learned to knit when I was in my early 20s, started a jumper for my sister which I never finished. Haven't touched knitting again since so would have to learn all over again. It's something that I keep thinking about...

message 215: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm tempted to try to design my own cross stitch pattern

The shop still hasn't got my wool in! Tried another shop which stocks the same brand, but they sold out too! Supplier being slow with their deliveries...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments How are you feeling now Karen?

I do hope you're better!

message 224: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm feeling better than I was, thanks Patti - but still not 100% (mind you, who ever does!) Had a long sleep this afternoon and it's helped. Will do some crochet this evening to try to catch up a bit - have less than a week now to get it finished - bummer about the wool, but if it comes to it I've worked out how I can change things to make it work - will involve a little unpicking and re-working but that's what I will have to do if the suppliers let me down over the wool!

:0/

message 225: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh good Karen. I'm glad you're feeling better. You do sound in better spirits in spite of your wool difficulties.
I'm in awe of your talents.

I'm positive your finished piece will be wonderful. Can't wait to see it.

message 226: by [deleted user] (new)

Aww thanks, Patti. I love doing this as I am not following a pattern, but working it out as I go... it's more creative.

message 227: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments what wool is it? Maybe someone else could get it and post it down to you. I'd be happy to do that.

Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "what wool is it? Maybe someone else could get it and post it down to you. I'd be happy to do that."

It's Robin double knit in royal blue. Hubby's going to pop into the shop tomorrow for me, but if it's not in then if anyone can help out, that would be great. Didn't think of it before - but didn't think it would take so long for the suppliers to deliver! I know it's not the shop's fault - and when we went to a big department store a few miles away, who sell the same yarn, there were big gaps on their shelves - so obviously the suppliers are being slow to deliver!

Sorry for delay replying - we lost internet acces for a while..

message 230: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 08, 2012 10:12AM) (new)

Saw this interesting article on facebook - no wonder it's hard to get noticed on Etsy, 800,000 shops!!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Eep!

Could be worse though Karen.

You could be an indie author flogging a book in amazon...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Kersties works is lovely. I've managed to put my shrug photo up its on my profile (twice). I am a Nelly with uploading on this b......y phone - my friend likes it so she's happy.

message 233: by [deleted user] (new)

Kay (Golden Girl) | 2193 comments Karen there is Robin double knit royal blue wool on ebay but it may be more expensive there with postage
Kirstie lovely cards,very talented
Lynne love the Shrug
All these talented people on here ,have just bought myself a new sewing machine ,want to try making a quilt but not sure I will ever manage it ,never made one before ,also going to start doing cross stitch again ---oh the things I expect to do ,maybe keep me out of mischief!!!

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Kay, if I'd known at the start that the wool would take so long, I would have bought it on amazon or ebay...

Oh well, even if I ordered it now it would be cutting it a bit fine by the time royal mail snail it here, so I will fall back on re-working the blanket if I have to...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Yes I did chicken out of the bunny hat but I told her about it and she hooted. She's been so kind today and given me something lovely for my daughter and a beautiful mac for me.

Wow - thanks for the tip, Pauline! Hubby is in town today anyway so he's going to try the shop again, that will be well before four, so I can order some online if it's not in. That's really useful, thanks.

:0)

message 242: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow - had to come back and share this!

Someone has contacted me through facebook. She has a friend who is starting up an ezine on knitting and crochet and is looking for people to develop projects (obviously I can only help with crochet as I don't knit) but my facebook friend has passed on details of my etsy shop so that they can contact me. I do hope that something comes of this as it will be such an interesting thing to do!!

:0))

message 243: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I hope she gets in touch, that sounds brilliant (and busy!)

message 244: by [deleted user] (new)

Hubby got to the wool shop at 4.45 only to find it closed! So no idea if wool was in or not - have now ordered it from Deramores as I'm not willing to take the risk. I won't be able to do any work on the blanket this weekend anyway, so if the wool arrives on Monday, that will suit me fine.

message 245: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Fingers crossed it arrives Karen!
