Katy | 2662 comments My mum is in the process of buying christmas presents. I wasn't sure where was best to post this, but as it is a craft book, I shall post it here.

She has suggested that we get my grandma this:

There was a dog one too. My mother is evil!

It would make me sneeze if I tried crafting with cat or dog hair! Don't fancy it at all!! ;0)

A friend of mine has a very fluffy cat - when she combs his hair she saves the fur and puts it out for the birds to collect to line their nests - they seem to appreciate it..

Here's a photo of this week's cake - hope I've posted the picture in the right place.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Ha ha those craft ideas with pet fur are funny. If I get a dog hair in my undies I can fidget all day! I wash the dogs beds and although I clean the machine afterwards the odd hair in the bra or knickers are like pin pricks. I think I'll pass on those Katie.

That is absolutely gorgeous! Seems a shame to eat it! You are talented, Nicola.

(And now I know where to put put my photos)

Re the cat/dog fur craft, there's something gross about that!

You don't want me to make you a crocheted bobble hat using fur from our neighbours cats then, Jud...?

*mutters* There's no pleasing some people..

;0)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Well is would be a useful way of getting rid of Oscar's fur but I can't imagine giving it to anyone else. "Here have a finger puppet made from my dogs shed fur"

That made me laugh out loud!

Nicola Palmer | 255 comments A dog hair jumper might be quite nice! Our dog never feels the cold, so perhaps a jumper of his fur would be really warm :) I think we could fill a carrier bag every week, if anyone's tempted to make one?!

Glad you like the cake! (no dog hair in it)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments You lot are awful, the thought of my next door neighbours scabby cat's fur being used has put me off my lunch. I really do not like that cat, it pees up my upstairs windows (it climbs up the conservatory roof) and its so uncared for and mangy looking I just hope my dogs don't catch anything off it. Anything made from Tigger's fur would make a hedgehog itch. (I do like cats though - just not this one)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments My stepmum spins the fur from her Samoyed. Long and creamy white, and so silky!!

message 366: by Nicola (new)

Nicola Palmer | 255 comments Wow! That sounds brilliant, Mhairi!

Thinking about it, I wouldn't use the fur from my dog's beard. It's usually a bit smelly, since he dribbles his dinner down his front, and kippers are his favourite.

Years ago my mum-in-law, would tell me in details about something she almost bought for me (but never did) I was supposed to say thank you but I could never get my head round the logic of it.
This time I genuinely thank you Karen for not giving me one of those even if you'd made it by your own fair hand ;0)

Hahahahaha Thankfully the samoyed's chin fur is very short, not really handy for spinning :D

Anyone else that I can NOT make a cat fur crocheted bobble hat for...?

Today's free craft books - quite a few again, but I think that at least one has been free before..

Me!

message 372: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, Jud!

Maybe I could be onto a money spinner here - instead of actually making things to sell, I could get people to pay me NOT to make things!!

Anyone else NOT want a cat fur bobble hat? Pay me £xxx or the hat is in the post!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Friend of mine bought a llama jumper whilst in Peru. Insisted on wearing it down the pub all winter one year.

Nothing quite like the smell of gently steaming llama wool.

message 374: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments That could put you off your beer. I came across someone recently who combed Highland cattle and then made felted sculptures from the combings. But that's art, darling - and besides, no one had to sit beside her while she was wearing it!

message 375: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 28, 2012 01:48AM) (new)

Loving the strange wool stories..

I've taken a photo of the scarves that I've been making lately. There were a couple more, but I've already posted those off to their recipients. There is a mixture here of some for sale and some as gifts for those anniversaries that I mentioned earlier.

The craft fair is definately on, but not next week - the week after. Gives me a little more time. Will get busy making more scarves as I am hoping that they will be a popular winter choice, only time will tell... Will also do a few bookmarks and jewellery. I'm looking forward to it, a few of my friends are joining in, so we should have some fun, even if we don't sell much!

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Have been busy this pm sewing some little decorations to go on the v. Scandinavian white twigs I'm doing for the kitchen windowsill (templates and instructions on my blog) - pics on blog http://www.karenlowe.co.uk/
Got a small square of red and white spotty fabric Friday, plus scrap of white felt and some red ribbon. On a roll now! (think I shd actually be getting on making Christmas cards though...)

message 396: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Lovely Lindsay.
I visited a christmas craft fayre yesterday part of the local towns big 'switch on' event.
Homemade scarves were selling for £20 and cards £2 each.I saw some lovely cushions made from tea towels, the souvenir type you find at holiday spots. They were very eye catching.

message 397: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've lost my scarf. :(

No idea where I left it. I think it may have fallen off in the street somewhere.

Isn't deep green a lovely colour?

message 398: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Love Lindsay's owl! Is it glued to a core (polystyrene ball or something) or is it stitched on to felt or knitting? (sorry, I always want to know how things work)

message 399: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've picked up my knitting again after an age of not doing it. Realised I was only 4 stitches out so it was easy to get it back down to what it was supposed to be. No idea where I went wrong
