No M though

Rock Chick Renegade (Rock Chick, #4) by Kristen Ashley Loved Jules and Vance's book!!

message 802: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments @Melissa - the Rock Chick series looks really interesting. Looks like another series to add to the ever-growing to be read pile.

I love it! The Rock Chick's rule. I've read her Mystery Men series as well - that series is good too but I love the rock chicks!!

We are now tied with team A with 689 books read!!!! We can do it oh yes we can!!!!!

message 805: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 626 comments Well, I've tossed The Earth Hums in B Flat by Mari Strachan . I liked the first few pages, but then the author got into a lengthy description of the gross and disgusting.

Any suggestions of romances with "M"s?

message 806: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments @Deedee, what kind of romances do you like? I have several I can recommend, but not sure what you like.

Great job everyone!! Let's push past 700!!

I will post an updated list of our M books tomorrow. Not going to Mardi Gras this year, so lots more time on my hands!

Hope everyone on the East Coast is staying warm and dry. No driving = more reading time!

message 807: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) Leslie, I love that picture! So cozy! Right now I'm snuggled up on my couch like that reading Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, # 1) by Kami Garcia and watching the snow fall. It's so relaxing!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Just finished Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning I love time traveling Highlander's! It's an M book and a romance (Duh!!). Now I've started Lord of Fire and Ice by Connie Mason . Not sure what to expect out of this one.

@Katie - glad you are snuggled up. Watching snow fall is wonderful - it's the shoveling and driving in it that I always hated.

message 810: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2438 comments Just finished Fair Game (Alpha & Omega, #3) by Patricia Briggs which 156 people put on the romance shelf. And can I say, Oh what an ending!

message 811: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Just finished my second M book and it's a romance too :D

Playing for Keeps (A Neighbor from Hell, #1) by R.L. Mathewson byR.L. Mathewson this was really good. Hated Haley's family but her Grandma was awesome!

message 812: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ @Leslie I love her Highlander series! I'm going to start Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning I keep putting it off. I just hate how the last book ended.

message 813: by Alley (new)

Alley (alleycatfish) | 198 comments Finished 2 more Romance and M books today!

My Favorite Mistake (My Favorite Mistake, #1) by Chelsea M. Cameron My Favorite Mistake - Chelsea M Cameron & Midsummer Magic (Magic Trilogy, #1) by Catherine Coulter Midsummer Magic - Catherine Coulter

My Favorite Mistake was good - gave it 4 stars. High for that type of book(for me anyway), but it sucked me right in and I couldn't put it down.

Midsummer Magic was your typical historical romance. I've read better and I've read worse.

Going to start on another M book - Death of a Poison Pen (Hamish Macbeth, #20) by M.C. Beaton Death of a Poison Pen - MC Beaton - not a romance though. I like to alternate between genres - keeps me from getting burned out on romances.

message 814: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I finished The Other Side of Us by Sarah Mayberry by Sarah Mayberry and Sold to the Enemy by Sarah Morgan by Sarah Morgan. Mayberry's was awesome as usual. I'm really digging her Super Romance books. The H/h are so believable and normal people.

Morgan's romance was a sweet one. It was HQN Presents so you have that unbelievable millionaire (or is it billionaire nowadays?) and usually set in Greece. (I guess Greek ones are in demand) But as usual Morgan doesn't write alpha-hole heroes but the heroine was too naive which I found it not so believable. Other than that, I really enjoyed the romance.

I've started Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan and if I can I'll try to squeeze My Favorite Mistake (My Favorite Mistake, #1) by Chelsea M. Cameron too.

message 815: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments The ending is awesome, right?! I so want the next book now but apparently, the author is going to concentrate on the Mercy Thompson series now. GAH!!!

Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "Just finished Fair Game (Alpha & Omega, #3) by Patricia Briggs which 156 people put on the romance shelf. And can I say, Oh what an ending!"

message 816: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments @Melissa - Make sure you have the fifth on hand. This one also has a cliffhanger ending and you will want to start the next asap. I hate cliffhangers.

Incidentally, for those who've read both her Highlanders and Fever series, if I'm not too into PNR (I can do UF fine, though), will I enjoy the Highlander? I enjoyed the fever series but I'm reluctant to start her highlander series due to this.

message 817: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments And finally, awesome work Team D! We ROCK!

message 818: by Deedee (last edited Feb 09, 2013 06:25AM) (new)

Deedee | 626 comments @Leslie -- I don't normally read romance novels -- but I've read some that I've liked. Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, some paranormal romance. Personally don't care for the soft-porn romances. I read Shameless by Karen Robards last year and really enjoyed it. (One of the advantages to being willing to toss a book is that I'll try ones out of my comfort range :0) )

Oh, and Lauren Willig's series is great!

message 819: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

"

Now as being a year or longer? I had heard before she was only writing one book a year and going back and forth between the series. So I was expecting it to be two years before the next book, but if she is only doing Mercy that is a bummer (not that I don't love Mercy).

message 820: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ @Vi ~ I do have Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning on hand for when I finish. So I'm good to go.
Her Highlander series ~ not sure I would classify it as PNR. To me it is more of a romance with historical and some paranormal elements thrown in due to them being Fae if that makes sense?!? Maybe try to see if you can get book one from a friend or the library. That way if you don't like nothing is really wasted except 50-100 pgs of reading time.

Deedee maybe you could try Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie it has romance, mystery and humor all wrapped into one. It was a light fun read.

message 822: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Good morning, everyone!! WOW, lots of conversation about books. What fun!

@Vi - I would say definitely try the Highlander series. It is so different from her Fever series. The best one to start with is Kiss of the Highlander. Even though it's #3, you aren't missing anything. Just great sexy fun!!

@Deedee - if you like Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer (a personal favorite of mine!) and Lauren Willig - you might want to try Lisa Kleypas Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Great author and great start to a series.
Another author you might want to try is Ciji Ware. She has historical mysteries that are pretty good. One of them I read recently is Midnight on Julia Street by Ciji Ware
Another author you might enjoy is Elizabeth Lowell. She writes many different genres but does Romantic Suspense very well. Her book Moving Target (Rarities Unlimited, #1) by Elizabeth Lowell is pretty good.

message 823: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Woo hoo!!! Over 700 books!!! And in 3rd place!!!

Team A - 699
Team B - 774
Team C - 790
Team D - 707

message 824: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Great job, Team!! Keep reading!!

I just finished Lord of Fire and Ice by Connie Mason and despite the cheesy cover it was actually quite fun! I am now starting Murder on Black Friday (Gilded Age Mystery, #4) by P.B. Ryan which is part of a historical mystery series that I love!! Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre or would like to try it.

And Deedee, I thought of an author you might want to try Susan Mallery / Susan Stephens / Olivia Gates. She writes some very good contemporary romances.
I'll have an updated list of M books up soon.

message 825: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) DeeDee, I agree with Melissa on Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie , it was one of my faves from Crusie, that and Wild Ride by Jennifer Crusie . Both are hilarious and fun to read!

message 828: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ DeeDee ~ I second Leslie's Susan Mallery recommendation. Delicious (Buchanans, #1) by Susan Mallery is the first Susan Mallery book I read. I love when food and books collide!! This is the beginning of a sweet trilogy.

message 829: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments @Michelle - wow, what eclectic choices!!

@Melissa - I've never read that one! I'm just trying to finish the Fool's Gold series.

message 830: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments Yesterday I finished Cross My Heart (Landry, #2) by Abigail Strom which is romance + M

Now I am reading Touch of Power (Healer, #1) by Maria V. Snyder by Maria V. Snyder

message 831: by Alley (new)

Alley (alleycatfish) | 198 comments I've finished another M book (not a romance!) - Death of a Poison Pen (Hamish Macbeth, #20) by M.C. Beaton Death of a Poison Pen by MC Beaton. It's a super fun cozy mystery series. Spoilerish if you haven't made it far into the series - (view spoiler)

I might read Murder on the Links (Hercule Poirot #2) by Agatha Christie Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie, but I doubt I'll have it finished before the challenge deadline. If it's anything like the last Poirot book, it'll take me a couple days to finish.

message 832: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Finished last night Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #3) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . Really enjoying this series!! Got to meet new characters and learn more about Archeron and Artemis. 494 users classified as romance.

Starting Embrace The Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, #2) by Alexandra Ivy

@Leslie the Susan Mallery trilogy is cute and the first one is about a chef and second chances (if I remember correctly)

She definitely weaves a good story! I have Karek's book next up. Have to finish a couple books I've already started. I'm looking forward to his book.

message 836: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Love the books this morning!! I unexpectedly decided to read My Favorite Mistake (My Favorite Mistake, #1) by Chelsea M. Cameron for another team challenge. I enjoyed it though it was a little too much like reading about my kids lives. Slightly uncomfortable.
I've also just started Murder on Black Friday (Gilded Age Mystery, #4) by P.B. Ryan . Should be finished by this evening!

@Melissa - I put the Susan Mallery book on my TBR (thanks!). I love books that combine food and romance as well. Looks good.

I have a love-hate relationship with Sherrilyn Kenyon. I liked her stuff and then I got real tired of it and stopped reading her. I need to go back and re-read her.

message 837: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments Kristin wrote: "Have you read Poison Study by Maria Snyder? I really liked it but I haven't read any other books in that series. "

Yes I just read that in January and I am looking to buy the next two books in the series to continue it as I also liked Poison Study.

Maria V. Snyder is one of my favourite authors at the moment. I have already read the the Glass and Insiders series.

too funny ( I just went to read the blurb)~ yeah I could see how that would be uncomfortable, lol

Your kids might be uncomfortable knowing you just read this, too ☺

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Well, my oldest is 24 (now engaged) but she will tell you (and me!) that she had the "FULL" college experience at Vanderbilt! I was definitely the mom texting her at odd times and saying " we haven't talked in so long".

message 841: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) I just finished Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, # 1) by Kami Garcia for both romance and M challenges. Everyone is doing a fantastic job!

What did you think?

message 843: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I have finished Touch of Power (Healer, #1) by Maria V. Snyder that is another one toward both M and romance

message 844: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) Hey Leslie! I wasn't sure at first if I would like Beautiful Creatures but a lot of the supporting characters really grew on me. Amma and Macon make the journey through 500 pages worth it and I've put in for the second installment at the library already.

message 845: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Well, the TBR pile is just getting bigger and bigger. I've now added Touch of Power - that looks really good!

@Katie - good to know! My youngest daughter loves it. But I'm always so hesitant about Young Adult books. I won't get to it before the movie comes out, but I will definitely move it up on the to-read list.

message 846: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 115 comments I've finished my second book for the M challenge and it's a romance, too. Sadly, I didn't like this one as much as some of her other books. It was a too confusing.
Love in the Time of Dragons (Light Dragons, #1) by Katie MacAlister

message 847: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Tricia, have you read the other ones before this? I agree that this isn't as good as her other dragon books, but it does improve. The going back and forth is a little confusing, though. I agree.

message 848: by ~Leslie~ (new)

message 850: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I have just finished Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder and I hope it is in time for M and it is definitely romance.

It is a very good continuation of Poison Study and I enjoyed it. I also read it in one sitting.
