~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Hello, Atefe! That sounds really interesting! Is it hard to get books that are translated into Persian?

Totally off-topic: I went and saw Anna Karenina yesterday. Amazing!!!

@Vi - thanks for the good luck. I'm having a hard time getting myself to start it. I've read a few pages only. Luckily I bought it instead of checking it out and I have more time. Other books keep distracting me. Luckily Melissa and I are very laid back in our buddy reading LOL!! We have done several together.

@leslie:oh,it's not hard at all, because I live in Iran and there are some strong translators such as "Mehdi Sahabi" who has translated well that book(Le Pere Goriot).....I enjoyed the book so.....

I am so close to finishing the second and want to finish the series, but they are so darn dense lol! They end up being the books I'm always reading and putting down so I can finish them. So good though

message 156: by ~Melissa~ (last edited Jan 06, 2013 03:00PM) (new)

~Melissa~ @ Michelle ~ that is it exactly. I'm glad I was able to find someone to buddy with me when starting the series otherwise I know myself....I would never finish, lol

Good Evening, Dangerously Determined to Devour All Books!

It is time for the Weekend Update ! Yes, I stole it from Saturday Night Live. ;)

I hope every one is having a great time reading and placing those books on your shelf. I know I am!

First things first, because I know you all want to know...the rankings, as of this last hour...

1st place- The A-Team (Team A) with 90 books
2nd place- Best Book Brigade (Team B) with 88 books
3rd place- C Us Win! (Team C) with 86 books
4th place- Dangerously Determined to Devour All Books with 73 books

No worries though team. We still have plenty of time to catch up. Remember, not every one is as addicted to Goodreads as some of us are and might not have updated their books read yet. ;) New participants are also being added every day so who knows what could happen!

Some books being read in the past week that you might want to try. Disclaimer: These books were picked randomly straight from this team's thread. If I didn't include your book, please, no hard feelings. If you really want teammates to know about a book you have read for this challenge either posted in this thread or not, let me know and I will add it. This section is completely for fun and sharing purposes. Thanks!

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston Unveiled (Turner, #1) by Courtney Milan We Bought a Zoo The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Wild Animals That Change Their Lives Forever by Benjamin Mee The Rake by Mary Jo Putney Princeps' Fury (Codex Alera, #5) by Jim Butcher

Hehehe. Thanks! I have a huge soft spot for dogs. Can you tell?? :D

One day when I finally have a house I'm going to become a foster dog mom. Something I've always wanted to do!

message 161: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments @Michelle - I totally understand! I tried to start the second book but I just kept putting it down for other books. I may have to give it another attempt.

@Rachel - Great update! The margin of difference between the other teams and us is something we can easily overcome. So go team!

TEAM UPDATES

To view all the Teams, go in under More challenges... on the Home Page (right under the last visible challenge, lower right-hand corner).

That will take you this page .

You will have to go into each individual team to check their totals.

Expect a 30 minute delay in the totals update, if you just added a book.

44,350 words divided by 250 = 177.4 pages. Acceptable, Marla & Rebecca.

message 172: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Just finished two books today. Both were 3.5 star reads and one was a new author for me. Against the Wind (The Raines of Wind Canyon, #1) by Kat Martin by Kat Martin was a new author for me and it was a contemporary romance set in Wyoming. I enjoyed it. And the other one I finished was Blood Sins (Bishop/Special Crimes Unit, #11) by Kay Hooper by Kay Hooper. This is part of a series about psychics who work at a special group within the FBI and are trying to catch a serial killer. Not alot of romance but good thriller. I've read others in this series and enjoyed them as well.
Now I'm starting Deadly Game (GhostWalkers, #5) by Christine Feehan by Christine Feehan. Melissa and I have a thread going for this series. We read 1 a month. I love them!!! So sexy.

We read the Thirteenth Tale first and liked it and the next year read The Forgotten Garden and they were sort of similar and yet not, but would appeal to the same reader, I think.

I really enjoy Kay Hooper's books! What's not to like...serial killers, romance, psychic FBI agents!

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 115 comments Just finished Just Like Heaven (Smythe-Smith Quartet, #1) by Julia Quinn . That didn't take long! Loved it!

@Leslie: I love Julia Quinn's books, too! The Bridgerton's are my favorites!! I was so happy to see Just Like Heaven is set during the same timeline. I really look forward to reading the rest of this new series.

Now, I think I'm going to read something a little different. The title really grabbed me with this one.
The Witch Must Die How Fairy Tales Shape Our Lives by Sheldon Cashdan

message 191: by Donna (new)

Donna Wolczyk | 75 comments Yah, I just finished my second book!!! It's late and I have to work, so I will look for something to read tomorrow, although I'm just not sure what I want to read next!!

message 192: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Finished off Codex Alrea series by Jim Butcher. Maybe it's because I read it back to back but I was a little bit disappointed in the series. It was just a little too nice for my taste. Tavi was too near-perfect. Guess I expected a little more from Butcher.

I've started The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski for a buddy read. It's going ok so far.

message 193: by Michelle (new)

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 49 comments I'm reading The Recruit (Highland Guard, #6) by Monica McCarty . Really good. One of the best in this series. Not sure why I haven't read it before. I have an ARC to read after.

message 194: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) Finally! I made the board for the Team with one book! I stayed up late last night trying to finsih off my first book and first graphic novel of the year (I am paying for it now though, so sleepy!). I'm feeling very D-licious so to keep with the D theme I chose this as my second one:
Dearly Devoted Dexter (Dexter, #2) by Jeff Lindsay

I love Monica McCarty - great research and hot romance - what more can you ask. I am set to read this one this month and can't wait. I may push it up sooner! You have me excited to read it.

atefe (aatefe) | 11 comments I've just finished شیفتگی جوانی by Hermann Hesse and started this one بار هستی by Milan Kundera ........

message 197: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Great job, Atefe!!

I finished Deadly Game (GhostWalkers, #5) by Christine Feehan yesterday. Love this series by Christine Feehan and this got 5 stars from me. I read it awhile ago but I didn't remember much of it.
I am now reading Canyons of Night (Looking Glass Trilogy,#3, The Arcane Society,#12) by Jayne Castle and Love Bites (Argeneau, #2) by Lynsay Sands . The first one is another re-read and is part of a buddy read challenge. I love Jayne Anne Krentz and all her alter-egos. The second one is a new series I've started and it's only okay so far. But not bad.

message 198: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey! I'm new in the team, hope I'm gonna be a good adition here!
For now, I'm up to 2 books of my 60.

Assassin's Creed: Renaissance and Lord of the Flies

message 199: by Gen (new)

Gen (gen454) | 179 comments I finish my first book of the year Candide ou l'optimisme by Voltaire. The story was too repetitive for my taste and like the title indicate, Candide was too much of an optimistic. But well... I had to read it for my french class. Sorry if I don't read a lot right now, I'm in my exam week in college. As soon as my session end, I will do my best to catch-up. And now, I will start Gone Girl.

message 200: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Just finished Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones wasn't thrilled with this one. Hoping the next one is better!!
Starting Deadly Game (GhostWalkers, #5) by Christine Feehan - haha I'm behind Leslie!! Also starting Blood Wager (Blood Destiny #1) by Connie Suttle
