"Don't say that! You don't know that for sure," Brad said adamantly.

"They told me I probably won't get better. To my face. Like 5 times. I just have to not get any worse I guess..." Ford fake yawned. He didn't feel like doing anything.

Brad just shook his head as his mood turned sour. He remembered his mum saying that almost everyday until the day she had died just 2 years prior. He wasn't about to lose Ford too.

Ford looked at a clock. It was one in the afternoon, He couldn't go to sleep now. "Wanna go to the pool?"

Ford continued to the pool.

Brad followed silently. Still lost in thoughts about his mother

Ford pulled his wheelchair next to the pool railing and lifted himself into it. He had to move his arms a lot to stay afloat.

Ford did three laps around the pool before pulling himself up onto the side. He thought about getting into his wheelchair, but instead laid down on the concrete. Fords arms were shaking with exhaustion.

Brad watched. He didn't think Ford wanted him araund 3

Ford sighed. He had laid down on his back and couldn't get up. "Can you.. Um... Help me?"

"A little help here?" Ford coughed.

"Sorry Ford. I was thinking about my Mum." Brad rushed over to help him into his wheelchair. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah I'm fine. Thanks" Ford got his breath back.

Brad sighed, "I'm sorry."

"For what?" Ford raised an eyebrow.

"For what?" Ford raised an eyebrow.

"Not paying attention and getting upset by what you said earlier."

"Don't be sorry. Everyone has their own stuff. It ain't a problem."

Ford looked at his watch. It was already 10 at night. He wanted to go to sleep, but he was also paranoid about having another coughing fit. "Do you mind... Um.... Just staying in my room tonight? I'm just a bit worried." Ford paused. "If you don't mind."

"I don't mind."

"Thank you." Ford went beck to his room and pulled himself onto his bed. "Do you want to bring another bed in here?"

"Nah." Bradley rarely slept anymore. He was usually an animal when he did. The memories didn't seem to bother him then.

"Okay... Goodnight." Ford closed his eyes.

"Okay... Goodnight." Ford closed his eyes.

Bradley paced the floor trying not to think about his mom or his dad. It was his fault that his dad wasn't around and his dad's fault that his mom was gone.

"Are you okay?" Ford tried to go to sleep but the putter patter of Brads feel kept him awake.

"Sorry I didn't mean to keep you up. I'm-" Brad sighed and sat on the floor, "I'm fine."

"If you need to talk, I'm here for you."

"Get some sleep. We can talk in the morning." He shifted into a husky and turned 3 circles before laying down.

"Okay." Ford fell asleep quickly.

Brad still didn't sleep. But he felt more at ease now that he looked like his old pet.

3 months later.

Ford was in the gym, practicing his spell work. He still worked out every day, but had given up physical therapy. It wasn't worth it. He hadn't seen Brad in a month or two either. They had had a...falling out of sorts.

After their falling out Brad had taken to alcohol, smoking, and drugs. He lived life in a haze for the next month and had spent the month after that in rehab. He was finally out and clean. As he walked through the halls of the Reckoners Guild he couldn't help but wonder what Ford was up to now.

Ford went down the hallway to get some food. He hadn't eaten in a few days, but that had kind of become regular. Nor did he care much about anything but his magic. He had already reached a higher tier than where he was at before, and was just waiting for a mission where he could show off his skills. Although he had gotten much better at spellcasting, it was at a cost. Ford's body was deteriorating. He looked like a skeleton up to about his collarbone, but wore baggy clothes to hide his bony complexion. He hadn't worn his brace or the therapists harness in months. But at least his arms were in good shape

Brad caught a glimpse of Ford and noticed the difference in his appearance. He couldn't help but wonder if he had done that to him. He couldn't even remember what had happened to make them have the falling out in the first place. But he knew one thing for sure, he wanted to make it better he wanted his friend back.

Ford stopped when he saw Brad. He wasn't sure if he should say anything or not. It was obvious that they saw eachother but were they supposed to talk or just keep going.

Brad stepped towards him and then waited to see if he would retreat.

"Um... Where have you been?" Ford didn't make eye contact.

"Rehab." Brad looked him over.

"What?!" Ford yelled

"Yeah. I'm just here to pack up my stuff and go. Apparently they found the real Bradley Whittaker and my services are no longer required. In other words they have found an excuse to get rid of me before I possibly relapse and it comes back to bite them in the arse."

"What the hell are you talking about? 'The real' Bradley Whittaker. Hmpf. So you're a lie within yourself. No surprise."

Ford backed up a bit. He was slightly afraid of whoever Brad actually was.
