That sounds really challenging. I may have to try that next year. :)

Thank you both for the info, I have been going through my books ever since I saw the post. I am very intrigued by the challenge.

Karlee & Michelle - You should try it! Even if it's not with a group, you can keep track of it yourself. It's a lot of fun for me. I'm reading different books than I might if not trying to use every letter.

Actually - moderators, would it be ok if I started an A-Z challenge thread? I could start it under the members section and everyone can add the challenges they're already working on or start a new one, if they want?

I think it's a wonderful idea. I may have to start now. You've got me pumped about it. :)

:D You just use whatever day you start the first book that want to count towards your challenge as the start date and the end date is one year after that. Although, if you wanted to make it more difficult you can make the end date closer. Also, you can do it with book titles, authors names, or a combination if that's how you choose to do it. You can decide to do them in order of the alphabet or just try to get all the letters. It is completely up to you how difficult you want it to be.

message 457: by Brightness (new)

Brightness (brightnessreads) | 429 comments I already started my shelf! I'm going by book titles and I'm not going I order. I just want to finish them by the end of the year. :)

So "A" and "The" at the beginning of the title don't count, right?

That's what I did too. I started March 1st, so my end date is technically 2/28, but I'd like to be done by the end of the year so that I can start a new one next year.

And yes, "A" and "The" do not count, but everything else (including "To", lol) does. :) I was originally going to try to do the challenge without using "A" or "The" books, but decided not to go that far this time. I may try that at some point though.

message 459: by Brightness (new)

Brightness (brightnessreads) | 429 comments I think Allegiant will be my "A" book. ;)

I have made up 2 lists, one by title and one by author. I agree you definitely start picking from a wide range this way. I spend more time trying to decide what to read, it's time I could have been reading. I end up going to a safe author after wasting so much time. If you start an A-Z challenge thread I will definitely link up. Thank you.

Good plan!! They hadn't named that book yet when I started picking my list, but I haven't read my "A" book yet, so maybe that'll be mine too. I'm planning to read it anyway.

That's great Michelle! I have so much fun finding new books. I definitely spend a lot of time on it, but I find it really enjoyable to come up with the list.

Kristie - Go for it, however I've started a new folder for you called A-Z Challenges. Post the guidelines / suggestions in there and then members who want to start an A-Z challenge can have their own thread each.

We've started a folder for the A-Z challenges, if you'd like to join us. Just start your own thread. You can comment on your own thread to start a second challenge. So, if you want to do both the author challenge and the title challenge separately, just use one when you start the challenge, then put the second in as a comment.

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Well, it's our May 24 long weekend here in Canada. Yeah, I know May 24 is next weekend but we celebrate ours regardless of the date the 3rd Monday of May ~ go figure.

Saw some awesome fireworks last night and off to the beach to see more today. I love fireworks!! Love, love them; they bring me to my happy place. If I was defined at my funeral by someone who knew me well they would say she loved fireworks, and the sky and stars and clouds, and prisms and crystals. They would say other things that define me as well, but fireworks would definitely be on the top of the list.

What are you all doing this weekend? Er, I guess for some of you it's a regular Monday work week. But still, what have you got planned?

message 470: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I'm also enjoying the holiday! I ran this morning and the humidity almost killed me! I had lunch outside and enjoyed the sunshine...until it started to burn. Now I'm reading and contemplating going for ice cream. I'm also on countdown to my 5k!

message 471: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Woohoo again Joanne!!

Humidity! ROFLMOL. I love this weather; it's not even summer yet. Beautiful, sunny, warm glorious day :-) I'm back out to bake in it some more.

message 472: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Joanne, this seems to be a lovely day, and Cathie, you do love fireworks indeed :D.

Have a good celebrations, ladies.

In Poland day is nearly over, and it was my typical working Monday, so not really funny, and the weather is changing, we have storms and the temperature is falling, so all in all rather moody day. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.

We have our long weekend next week, on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so still some pleasant activities ahead. :)

message 473: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I burn very easily, I'm wearing SPF 60 and I'm still cooked. I don't mind straight heat, but I hate the humidity. Right noe I'm enjoying the cool basement!!

message 476: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Awww sorry to hear about your burning Joannne; I do too, but after such a horrid long winter I just can't say anything bad about the warm weather.

Are you planning anything special for your long weekend Anima?

Sing to your melodies reach the sky Lynn :-). What a nice event to share with others.

Hi Ladies! My day is winding down. I started a weeklong intensive today. Basically, a class that runs from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday this week. Each day I have to go home and complete homework for the next day. Then, we have a paper and a presentation due on Friday. Unfortunately, I'm not crazy about this class, so I think I'll mostly be suffering through this week. At least it is only 1 week long though, then I get 4 weeks off (from school, at least) before I have to do it again!

Next weekend is our long weekend here. I'm looking forward to that. I'm working part of it, but I actually have two days in a row off. I never have that! I can't wait. :)

Joanne - Sorry about the burn! I'm the same way. Straight to red, so easily.

Lynn - Have a wonderful time at your concert!

message 478: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments My skin thinks I'm a natural red head. By the middle of the summer I'll have a nice tan but for now I will burn, burn, burn. Today I topped up the burns that were almost healed.

Lynn, enjoy your concert!!!

Kristie, I don't envy your workload this week. Good luck and just keep thinking of your two days off together!

message 479: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Kristie, good luck with your class, I second Joanne, for me thinking about the long weekend usually helps to survive some unpleasant workload ahead. :)

Joanne, I hope the burning stops soon.

Cathie, I don't go anywhere special for the long weekend. I plan to spend some quiet time with my family :), something I miss in a day-to-day hectic life :)

message 481: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments O God please some relief. It is 2:30 am here in Portland, OR and I am miserable with these Spring allergies. We have had a beautiful Spring with a lot of Summer weather, but the pollen is so bad this year and I can't sleep, runny nose, itchy eyes, and I think I have a mild sinus headache. So annoying.

message 482: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Sorry to hear about your allergies, Sarah, I hope a change of weather will bring you some relief soon, maybe rain or lower temperatures.

Last day of class today!!! Yay! Can't wait for today to be done. I have had a total of 13 hours of sleep since Monday morning and I'm working the overnight tonight. Blah. Panning to sleep all day tomorrow, then looking forward to a little relaxation and reading before bed in the evening. Nice, lazy day.

Hope all the US folks have a nice Memorial Day weekend. What does everyone (not just the US folks) have going on this weekend?

Alycia (bookhound18) Kristie- And I thought I was having a rough week with averaging about 6 hrs of sleep a night this week. Little one keeps getting up bright and early! lol I'm headed to a yummy local BBQ restaurant and greenhouses with my sister and baby girl this afternoon. Hoping to take in some more sites in the area over the course of the weekend including the Natural Tunnel State Park in VA which is located by Big Stone Gap...yep, the same Big Stone Gap that Adriana Trigiani writes about! We live only about 45 min from there. We're trying to do a "bucket list", so to speak, of all the things we haven't done/seen before we move back home to Michigan this summer! :)

Your weekend plans sound really great, Ladies. I hope you have wonderful time :)

I plan to read and have rather lazy, peaceful time with my family and friends :)

Just got home from my choir concert (followed by quite a few drinks in the pub), which went extremely well.

I am now blumming knackered and looking to two days of doing nothing, what I call PJ TV days. I'm sure some book reading will be in there too :)

I just got home from my 5k, I did it in 41 minutes!!! And I ran over 3/4 of it! :) Even though it's my first official 5k, it's a personal best on all of my training time which has been around 47 minutes! I'm so happy right now!

Loryn (myloui93) | 2 comments Went to 2nd and Charles yesterday afternoon and bought a single compilation of Jane Austen's works. Every. Single. One.
I had a group of books I was planning on reading this summer, however I think I am going to try and read through every one of her works by the time I go back to school in August.
Nervous but excited. :3
