Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Joanne, I live in the same country as you do, in the same province, just the next big city over from you, and I have never heard of a Heinz Bean ban or Heinz Spaghetti ban??!! You are too funny, lol.

On a reading note, I have read as much this year as I did all of last year (55 books); actually more pages this year, according to my stats on GoodReads. I have upped my Challenge from 50 books to 72. I wonder what's gotten into me?

message 157: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Cathie, it's a ban on the British product, which is different from the Canadian product. The people who make the import laws have some funny ideas!

message 158: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments They must have, lol. I haven't been able to buy many British products since they closed down the Marks and Spencers store we had here about 15 years ago, if not longer. There's a speciality shop in Eglinton Square where I live near by that is a British import shop but they don't sell canned products like Heinz; just jams and scones and crumpets, mulberry pies, etc. Love me crumpets; one of my all time favorite foods :-)

message 159: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments You should try Mrs Bridges. They do bakery stuff and have a selection of canned foods, biscuits, crisps, chic, drinks etc. That's probably the closest to you.
Or there's the one on York Mills/Leslie, but they can be expensive and have less food selections. I miss Marks and Spencers.... they do some yummy fudge! Mrs Bridges does (usually) carry some of their biscuits. They also do cheese!!! Which I love!!

message 160: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I've never heard of Mrs. Bridges; I'll have to Google it and see the nearest location.

There is a wonderful cheese factory in the eastern area of Ontario, before you get to Kingston. All homemade and to die for! It's a must car trip on my list every year in the summer.

I'm not a big fudge eater; my comfort foods are creamy smashed potatoes with garlic, and yorkshire pudding wih a knock you on your ass gravy, lol.

message 161: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Mrs Bridges is in Eglinton Town Centre (I think) at Vic park and eglinton. It's by the food court.

message 162: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Ooooh, that's the store I was talking about!!. Observant, aren't I, lol! I love that store :-). Hey, do you come out this way often? Next time you're in the area, we should meet up in the food court for some chat.

message 163: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I'm out that way quite often, my parents live in Scarborough. I'll actually be back next weekend for Easter and probably the weekend for my mums birthday.

On a completely unrelated subject I went for a walk today, it turned in to a run! Nobody was chasing me and I ran!!!! So proud of myself right now!!!

Yes, I'm serious. I don't get it, but that's what retailers who try to stock certain things are told.

I am not a runner and until recently my motto has been "why run if no one is chasing you?"! I recently realised though, that I'm so incredibly unable to run that if someone was to chase me they'd catch me in about two seconds! I just downloaded C25K and if it does what it says on the tin then in 9 weeks I will be a runner...which incidentally is the date of my first 5k walk of the season and now I'm hoping to run it!

I have that app too. I tried it last year and realized how out of shape I truly am. Although, in fairness, it was very hot and humid the week I started. I may try it again this year, starting when it's still a little cooler and with proper running shoes. I just need enough time to commit to it.

That has been my week so far!! I'm dreading weigh in on Tuesday. I entered a 5k walk on the 26th May, I had planned to walk it but I'm going to try and follow C25K from tomorrow and the program will end on the 26th. Even if I on;y run part of it I'll be happy!!

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Good luck on your exam Kristie; I like how you study ~ eating junk food; that's the way I always studied, lol.

Joanne, you are very ambitious; I walked a 5K last year and I felt sore after. Good luck with your running program. (Then you'll be able to run away from any guys chasing you...but if guys were chasing me, I don't know if I would want to run away, heehee)

Ann, I have plans to file my income tax tonight; glad to know someone else also faced it today :-).

Anima, thanks :-). That's the reason I chose it; green and springlike. I want the warmer milder weather now please.

Hope everyone has an awesome Sunday night, doing whatever you plan on doing. I'm going to watch the Amazing Race (love this show), do my income tax and read some more of The Light Between Oceans (and maybe pick up another book I'm in the middle of reading and read a bit of it too).

I did a 10k on New Years Day, and I do 5k-8k walks once or twice a week. I suppose it would depend on who was chasing me ;) Although, there is a creep that lives around the corner from us and I always want to run past his house!! Today when I started to run, I was actually copying (ok following) a guy who was doing interval run/walks, at least until he turned a corner ahead of me and I could follow as I didn't know if he'd gone left or right!

message 184: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Joanne, do you do these walks with others? Organized, like Scotiabank walk or the Yonge Street one? If you do them with others, where do you find so many? (I have to add that I powered walked the 5K, but 5K is still a lot of distance, lol)

Joanne - Maybe you can pretend the creepy guy is following you and you will run faster! lol

message 186: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Oooo that's an idea Kristie!!!

Cathie, the Running Room website has a list of races in Ontario. I'm entered in the Toronto Women's Series runs which is a series of 3 races between May and October. I had contemplated entering the Scotiabank Marathon, but I wont be at the fitness level needed by then and there are other ones that are cheaper to enter.

Not sure If I've missed it but when is the exam Kristie?

Good luck!

message 188: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I entered the Scotiabank Marathon last year; that is where I did the 5K. I know the Running Room website. They list 5-8K races that happen every week? I didn't know there were that many. I'll have to go back and check out the site again. I'm only ever on it for the Scotiabank run; I've been a part of that for the last couple of years.

They list every event that people register with them. There is a 3k by me every 3rd Saturday of the month that's only $10 to enter. The third race in the series I'm doing is the weekend after the Scotiabank ones so I'm in two minds as to whether I will enter the Scotibank 5k too. I guess I have until May to decide.

Savanes | 2107 comments Seriously, I'm wondering if men have their periods. It just had gone unnoticed for centuries. My bf has been so incredibly bad tempered for the last few days, I think I'm entitled to wonder... ;)

Courtney I may like that idea. I am on here more than facebook because I only talk about books. I don't know what the book selections would be like in your group but I don't think I can handle anymore YA fiction.
