Nidhi Kumari | 432 comments Or in March, as you prefer. The book has 'feminism' tag so i will not nominate it for a group read.

Nidhi Kumari | 432 comments Hi everyone, I am planning to tackle 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. The book is above 900 pages so I am planning to read it for three consecutive months starting from August. This way, it will not hinder our other reads.

Anyone who is Murakami fan .....would like to join me?

I'd be interested Nidhi. It's a huge one!

message 1007: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari | 432 comments It is a huge one for sure..... and reading will depend on how mentally relaxed we are at that time i.e August. I am hopeful because I found Murakami easy and interesting to read.

I'll only read two of his books so far, but I did enjoy both of them.

Nidhi Kumari | 432 comments I have read three . I liked Kafka on the Shore best. Did you notice role of music in his books Greg?
Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore both are fictional music pieces which play vital role in the story.

Petra | 3324 comments Oh, you're in for a treat. 1Q84 is such a good story. It was the first of Murakami's books that I read and it's still my favorite.
Depending on what is going on in August (at home), I may join you for a reread. It's been ages since I read it.

Definitely Nidhi, one of the ones I read was Kafka on the Shore. Another was Men Without Women, which had some stories with musical influences for sure.

Nidhi Kumari | 432 comments That's really reassuring Petra, though the book has high ratings I had doubts about the result, after investing so much time in a book it should impress the reader.

Steve Bigler | 436 comments I like Murakami a lot, and enjoyed 1Q84 very much. I would love to reread and join discussion, but work is crazy and going to be worse toward the end of the year. So, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it or not, but if possible I’d love to join you.

Tom | 859 comments While browsing my Kindle library, I found I have the original (pre-tv series) Shōgun Shōgun (Asian Saga, #1) by James Clavell by James Clavell. (The Kindle version with the Hulu series cover Shōgun (Asian Saga, #1) by James Clavell is split into two books.) Possibly against my better judgment, I decided to read it, so if anyone's interested.

If you find time, we'd love to have you join us Steve! But I totally understand work problems; my work was really rough at the beginning of this year, and I definitely sympathize!

Well, I just finished Chapter 1. There's a Prologue too.

Nidhi Kumari | 432 comments Shogun seems very interesting but I don't think I can read it this year, I have group reads of Barnby Rudge by Dickens and Lies and Sorcery by Elsa Morante. So for me it will be either Shogun or 1Q84. I am happy with both.

Glad you enjoyed it Tom!

Have you seen the new TV series based on it? I'm curious if it was faithful.

Tom | 859 comments I have! It mostly is. Where changes happened it was to heighten drama. But nothing extreme.

Sounds good - I'll check it out!

Tom | 859 comments Though I am seriously thinking of signing up to Paramount+ so I could see the original series, because it stars Toshiro Mifune as Toranaga.
