However, it is hard to deny the coziness of an afternoon reading on a couch with a blanket and gradually drifting into a nap, even if very little reading gets done :P

Kathy, I'm excited to hear that. It has been on my to-read list for some time now, and the library won't let me renew the loan anymore so I better get to it :)

City of Thieves was excellent, I very much enjoyed it =D

Next on my list is a toss up from:

The Italian Wedding
One Hundred Years of Solitude (though maybe not because this book may be hefty content-wise)
I Capture the Castle
Transgression
The Ascent of Money : A Financial History of the World

So many choices! xD

message 563: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) I'm going to have to pick up the pace since The Hunger Games is due on Tuesday. I've been reading more slowly since school started so I'll try to tackle Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged since it's due mid-February and it is a pretty hefty book.

Hi Lisa - I haven't read the others, but I did enjoy Cellist of Sarajevo. You should listen to the piece of music discussed in the book, I think it adds to the experience.

Edith, I just finished The Help and it was a powerfully wonderful read. I have, also, read all of the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire series and loved them. You have some great reading going on.

Elena I am picking up again Wuthering Heights. I couldn't get into it at the beginning of the month. I have just finished The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by her sister, and I am motivated to pick it up again to see the difference in their styles.

message 581: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments I'm in the best and worst of all possible worlds right now, too many books that I want to read next. I keep revising my list of the next five. I am glad to see that I went on to The 13th Hour: A Thriller, which is actually next on my list. The rest is being revised once again. Probably, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall will be next, as I'm reading it as a group selection. Then, I will go to a nice cozy mystery in connection with Valentine's, Death of a Valentine. Connie Willis comes out with one I can't wait to read in February, Blackout, and Elizabeth Kostova's new one (that I had been so excited about and still am), The Swan Thieves is guilting me out that I haven't started it yet. And of course, I couldn't wait until next summer for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest and ordered it from Book Deposit so that I could read it now. The list continues, and I find myself in that wonderful/horrible place of having too many books I want to read Right Now.

message 582: by Jamaie (new)

Jamaie | 66 comments The Good Children- This one is from the library & I'm basically leafing through it. I'm curious about the ending, but I've realized this particular book of Wilhelm's is more for teens...I'm a lot older than that..LOL. I also have Not My Daughter(library)..and will leaf thru this one right after. I know I need to read The Help, but I figure I have time..the whole month of Feb., right? And Lolita is also gonna be one I read soon.

message 583: by Carol (new)

Carol I haven't read a le Carre in years. I just finished Skinny Dip . What a disappointing book. I will not be reading anymore by him. Now I am reading The Elegance of a Hedgehog.

message 584: by Kristine (new)

Kristine (foreveryearning) | 145 comments I will still be finishing 44 Scotland Street.

The next books on my list are
- The Book Thief (for a challenge)

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Shutter Island

message 585: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I went for Smith's I Capture the Castle as my next read. I'll likely read Berenson's The Silent Man after for a change of pace =)

message 586: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild In the middle of Steinbeck's Travels With Charley... and then will start Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly as I'm a big TV foodie and love all things Tony.

message 587: by Roberta (new)

Roberta Azzopardi (robs08) | 7 comments Kristine, I read The Book Thief, it's beautiful!
My next books are The Princess Bride by William Goldman, Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Though I still have to buy the last two.

F1Wild my sister met Anthony Bourdain and worked with him for a day. She is a culinary student at Johnson & Wales. Jealous? Yea me too... :)

My Next Books:

1. The Sirens of Titan because I love Vonnegut! This is my last book by him and it's going to be a sad day when I finish this one. Seriously, I might cry.
2. The Lost Civilization of Aries because I want to start supporting some indie authors. I also got this book in paperback signed from Vince which you can get through his website (which I also designed for him).
3. Practical Demon Keeping because I'm finishing up Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal and I'm really liking Christopher Moore.

message 590: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 53 comments I'm so not sure what I want to read next! In fact, I'm already thinking about this year's Summer Reading List because I need to figure out how to get through the rest of the winter and with what books to do so. (I bet most of you are devising Summer Reading lists already too, right?) :-)

Right now I'm STILL finishing Wilkie Collins' "The Woman in White." I'm enjoying it but have not put as much time into reading the last few months as I normally do, so it's taking FOREVER to read. Almost there, though...

Possibilities for next are:
1) The Book Thief (based on comments above)
2) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
3) The Help (for TNBBC Feb selection)
4) The Last Lecture (for a complete change of pace and to remember what's important)
5)Outlander #1
6) The White Queen (kind of in the mood for some Phillipa-style intrigue and back-stabbing)
7) The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society ('cause I just have to cross this one off the list already)

Geez, I'm in trouble. Any thoughts?
