Ah, thanks, Kathleen! June is great for me. I love Carson McCullers, although I've never read this one before. I'm really looking forward to it!

Hi Josh,
You could try first voting for it on the May Revisit Classics poll - it's in a very close second place at the moment. If it doesn't get voted for I have it on my TBR list but I am too busy to get started for a little while.

I want to read it for my Women's Century Challenge. It's a long book and it would be really nice to read it with others.

Yes, but I don't know when.

Yes, but I don't know when.

Nathan, I'd like to read The Golden Notebook, as I've only read one other book by Lessing, The Grass is Singing and I enjoyed that one a lot. However, it is quite long and I don't expect to fit it in anytime soon and probably not even this year! I'll be interested to know what others think of it though.

I was planning to read something of hers for bingo--the Nobel Laureate square. Years ago I read her The Summer Before the Dark, and really liked it, and have been wanting to read more since.

You can find the discussion threads for East of Eden in this folder. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

I actually plan on reading it in a few weeks as well. If you want to discuss it together, feel free to send me a PM as you read. =)

Thanks Kathy. I just joined the group a couple of days ago so I didn't know that you'd read it already.

Great. I'll let you know when I start reading it.

If it doesn't get voted for, I'd be in for a buddy read!
So Jackie and I are on board for a buddy read of The Woman in White in May and Fahrenheit 451 in June ... would anyone else be interested? :)
Also, we were just wondering, do we open new threads for these or are there old threads we should use if it's a past group read?

Of course, totally makes sense, thanks Pink! Just asked in case some threads got "retired" so I wasn't entirely sure. Anyway, sounds good!
We'll just have a look and see if they've been past reads, which I'm sure they have :)

In terms of keeping threads for past group reads open, they are never retired as such, but move to their respective category. We keep the current group reads near the top of the page, with the past 3 months worth of group reads moved slightly further down the page. After that books are sorted into their relevant folders, either Old School or New School, with more popular authors having their own folders. It's a lot simpler than I've made it sound!
If you want to search for a particular book, so see if we've read it before, then you can check the group bookshelf or use the search feature, at the top right hand side of the page. If you filter for topics only, that should bring up the relevant group read threads. I've had a quick look and found threads for both of The Woman in White link here to both spoiler and non spoiler threads and Fahrenheit 451 link here for spoiler thread only.
Also, if you're interested in when, why or how many times we've read each group book, you can access this information in the bookshelf. Each book can be sorted by the date we first read it, but in addition to this, if you click on 'view activity' you can see more information about each book. For example, I can see that we read Fahrenheit 451 as a contemporary classic (now New School) group read in April 2013 and we have read The Woman in White twice as a group. First as an Old School group read, also in April 2013! Then again as a 'Revisit the Shelf' re-read in November 2014.
Sorry if this is far more information than you wanted! I think I just got carried away with the search features!

Cool :) Thanks a lot for the links and for the info Pink! Accessing those details in the bookshelf is pretty neat.

True enough it's between Doctor Zhivago and 50 shades of Grey but still.

One of my favourite books, but I don't have time to read it again just yet. We re-read it as a group just last December and there are existing discussion threads if you'd like to check them out :) Link here

Thanks, I'll check it out.

A couple weeks is fine. I want to start by 411 and be doneski by 420-421. Lemme know because its one of those rare books that when read it would come off three book lists for me.

Kathleen, Kathy and Pink (and anyone else who might be tempted),
Would spreading it out over a couple of months make it easier to take on?
How about July-Aug or July-Sept?

Great idea, Nathan. Either of those works for me.

I would like to join you both for reading The Woman in White

Thanks Nargus - I will keep you posted. ;-)

It'd be great to have you join us as well! :)

Cool! So far it's four of us (if I'm not mistaken; and there's 50% Jackies!), five if Bat-Cat joins us. Awesome, the more the better :)

So far, I think it's me, Bat-Cat and Kathleen. Anyone else who's interested, feel free to join.

Is anyone still planning on reading Moby Dick? I remember it being mentioned but can't recall if there's still interest, or when people have time to read it?

Avast! My wife and I are currently listening to the librivox audiobook in the car. We're about 30% through, and stand to finish it sometime around fall at our current rate. I don't know if that helps anyone, but there it is.
Monica wrote: "Interested in rereading and discussing Fahrenheit 451. Aa a teacher, it was assigned reading for my class of eighth graders many years ago. Want to revisit it for myself."
Great! I'm keen on reading it for the first time :) I've only read a short story by Ray Bradbury in a high school English class, and it was a meaningful, interesting piece.
