Poetry Readers Challenge discussion

Hello there-
A number of poets have asked if anyone in the group would be willing to read and review their books. This group is for readers of poetry, although most of us also write, so we understand the desire to gain readers and congratulate you on your book.
If you have a book you'd like to offer for review, you may do so in a reply to this post. I suggest you make a short pitch with a link to a sample poem because most of us have long reading lists.
I can't make any promises or vouch for the reliability of a group member who might put their hand up. I would also warn that in general most of us decline these offers.
I would point out that the group was set up for participants who read and review and interact. Members who do that have a better chance of actually making friends here with people who might warm to reviewing a book.

Hey Group,

I haven't been very active this year [new job; worst one I've ever had! But, I digress].

I'm considering starting up a poetry workshop at my high school (caged bird's gotta sing) and, therefore, will be reading a lot of poetry to gear up and stay fluent .

I've spent zero time marketing this book; I haven't even gotten an ebook finalized yet. However, I believe it's the best one I've written. I had a small reviewing of my sophomore poetry effort that gleaned 5/5 stars (all honest reviews).

Last week
I took your jade from
my neck

It's chain had gathered rust

It's thread is fraying at the edges
Soon it would've been lost

boxing them away

Hi,

I had a book of poetry, LESSONS OF THE DEAD, released by Fomite Press in January. Nearly all of the poems start with a similar title, What the Dead Tell Us About SUBJECT, though there are a few exceptions.

They are often described as funny and strange and aren't all that macabre, surprisingly.

Here's a sample poem. The line breaks are a bit wacky because of the comment form, but you get the idea.

At Orientation

They tell us we’re lost,
but they hand out maps anyway
that clearly show us off to the side
with wild arrows pointing to the big question mark in the middle,
and we say, Thanks, that’s real helpful,
and the stewardesses adjust their hats as they smile and say,
Oh, they’re not for navigation, before shuffling us off
toward the exits, tiny doors, like tunnel entrances,
just large enough to crawl through,
and give us tickets with exact times stamped on them,
like train tickets, but these come with props
each with a label that reads this is what you can expect,
the man next to me had World War One printed on his,
and they gave him a helmet with a spike on top of it,
and a single-shot rifle,
other people got all sorts of things, eyepatches,
wheelchairs, twin brothers until everyone
had an outfit—businessmen, fashion models, and farmers,
the soldier next to me looked at me and said, I don’t like war,
I don’t even like action movies, before waving down a stewardess,
pushing the helmet into her arms, and saying, I don’t understand.
And the stewardess smirked again, and said,
Don’t worry, you won’t,
before checking her watch, and stepping out of the way
as the ticket-taker, sudden and imposing in a trench coat
and fedora, like he’d been in the SS in another life,
opened the soldier’s door and said, I’ll see you in 76 years,
on the button.

And the soldier crawled into his tunnel, as did doctors,
and plumbers, and teachers,
and others with outfits we couldn’t make out or understand,
and we looked at each other before leaving,
and smiled sheepishly.
At least we’re dressed for the occasion, I said,
as the man in the trench coat told me I had 82 years
as he opened the door
to some strange party.

I just posted a giveaway for "Transported" which is supposed to start on the 11th. Horrified that I have to pay Amazon $119 to do it. That wasn't the way it worked last time I did this.

I stopped doing giveaways when they started charging. Aside from the money, I found my previous giveaways (of chapbooks) always went to someone who really wasn't a poetry reader. Anyway... are you on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram? I've promoted my book there. I don't know how to use GoodReads to promote a book other than paying them through the giveaway! I guess it does get you some eyeballs.
