Catching up! 😮

The Historian. It was a 2.5 star for me. Really slow and 300 pages too long imo.
The count of monte Cristo - I loved it! Massive book and great sense of accomplishment to complete it
Fingersmith- I really enjoyed. Had no idea when I started it that it was lesbian fiction so I did get a bit of a surprise. Haha 😂. It is slow paced but not boring. The pace adds to the story
Les mis - yikes I’d better read a bit more before wheelathon starts. I’m currently in line with the schedule so I may just have to make use of the break month after wheelathon to catch up

Thanks Kristel! Do you mind posting the format to the top of the thread so I can make sure I copy it each time 👍😉

I’ve also volunteered for the July YA BOM (both July books were my nominations I just realised!!)

Hi Tina
I didn’t know what it was either!! Once I checked it out I realised I have actually read a few in the genre
http://goodreads.com/genres/space-opera

We could always use a chipmunk spin for two of our weeks though if we find ourselves with quite a difficult word/genre

Good luck with exams Karen! I hope you do well.
I choose units where we don't have to do exams. I can deal with the extra assignment :P

And in addition to Karen's link, here's another one that might be useful :-)

Eta: Actually adding the link would help....
Space Opera

Oh really? That's not what I have for my units in my post grad! Maybe it's different for each course and each uni?
Health at Deakin Uni is not that big on end of subject exams

And the other July BOM as recommended to me by a few people who have similar taste to me which is why I added it

Definitely. I love online studying

Master in Public Health. I have 5 out of 16 units left. I started doing a major project this year (ethics, research, data collection and analysis then the thesis) but it got too much for me. ): Things happened that messed with me doing it.
So instead of the major project plus one unit, I'm going to do the 5 elective units now.

I'm trying to choose my last unit and can't decide on whether I should do a unit with an exam or with a group project! Haha
Any recommendations? xD

Yeep, group projects are.... hit and miss, I guess. If you have a good group, without the bad egg, then they're great. With the bad egg.... so so annoying :-/

message 122: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Yup agreed, group projects are a risky business! They can be fun but they're also often pretty stressful if that one bad egg doesn't do their job...

Well the flu shot is now in shortage so you’d be lucky to get it! I got mine about a month ago. I don’t love needles but after having kids and being a constant pin cushion I just kind of got used to it

I so know that feeling! During my final year project I was in a group of four, and I was the only one that actually did any work. Luckily tutors were aware of this, and consequently I was also the only one that graduated, lol!

Camilla | 1885 comments Eldarwen wrote: "We now have 10 suspense books on the spreadsheet! :-)"

Ah, that's great, then I don't need to worry about finding something for that genre. I'll be reading some shorter books during the first week, since I want to complete the right side up challenge, which ends on the 21st, and I'm still several books short. This trip really messed up my reading, lol!

I'm a lurky lurker. I tried to read IT at age 8. Made it 20 pages, got terrified and was afraid to go to the bathroom for weeks. Blame my father. Of course he also let me watch a horror movie at the age of 2 or 3 because he thought it would be fine. I had nightmares for 12 years after that and didn't know why until I mentioned them to my parents. Now I know...

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Oh IT.... When it was out on tv first time, just hearing opening score got me chills and I went to my room (to read probably :P). I remember it was huge problem over here, parents letting kids watch because they thought it child friendly since it had a clown. I think I was only one in my class that didn't watch it and had no problem sleeping.
I did watch Poltergeist (not my fault really - it was on tv in the middle of the day during summer vacation!). I did have trouble with storms for certain period of time :P

This happened to me at a sleepover with Child's Play. Horror movies and I have a history and anything where dolls come to life, shudder.

Anyway, I'll go back to lurking now. I'm not playing this round so I'm just poking in to root for my friends.

message 136: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments See, I went the other way... Age 7 I'd read all the kids books in our local library, and they wouldn't let me read/borrow anything teen+, so I went and begged my dad for something to read. Dad had mostly King, mum mostly James Herbert...

I was soon so used to horror that I don't like the genre much now because it doesn't scare me! lol.

message 137: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments In my dad's defense, he did start me off on The Eyes of the Dragon, which King had written for his own (then young) daughter, and after I'd finished that, I just helped myself to the rest, lol.
