Done!

I thought we had a ladder already but I used a book under 250 pages so had to erase it. UGH! We're really close though, so once we get a few in for a Safe Zone, we should be good.

Countdown #1 - from the NPR list
Book: Unsheltered - Barbara Kingsolver
Read: 9/2/19
How it Fits: on the NPR list

Pages: 471

message 206: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments Since we need to complete all of a safe zone before doing another, which should we do first? Which one has the page numbers we need to do our ladder? We should do that first.

message 207: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 1073 comments I'll start Pippi then =)

message 208: by [deleted user] (new)

If we go with Safe Zone 1, Paula's book will complete the ladder, based on the pages for the books mentioned.

message 209: by [deleted user] (new)

Here's where we stand with changes that were made to countdown books:

What Happens in Texas - 384
The Lightening Struck Heart - 402
(Paula's SZ1 book) - 285
Deja Dead - 532
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd - 288

message 210: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 02, 2019 07:31PM) (new)

The other option would be to skip straight to SZ3 and just start spelling as many words as we can. Paula's book could be applied there instead of SZ1. That way we can read as much as possible and all books would count, as opposed to waiting for everyone to finish one of the other SZs before we are allowed to move on. I know I personally have about 5 other books (possibly more) that I'll finish by the end of the week that I could apply to a word rather than having them go to waste because I finished them before a different zone was complete.

Thoughts?

message 211: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 1073 comments I believe we can go with SZ1 and SZ3 (skip SZ2), because of the bonus for completing SZ1
Can we do that? Or is it against the rules?

JenniferJ | 202 comments Ladies I don't know how much of Dorian we will get here in South Carolina. They had mandatory evac for the coastal area today at noon and I am maybe an hour inland but usually even if we get a regular little storm we lose power in my area! Grr

I will pop in as much as and if I can over the next few days but I am gonna be reading a C book so we can use it on either part anyhow and as many others as I can.

I feel like we will be fine but just wanted to give a heads up.

Ugh Jennifer! I'm sorry you have to go through that.

So if we skip straight to SZ3, anyone worked out some words we should try to focus on?

I have 2 books I started after Linda posted the final countdown book that I've finished that we can use and I'll have another one finished today.

Letters for those I've finished and the one I'm reading now include:
Texts from Jane Eyre: And Other Conversations with Your Favorite Literary Characters: T, M, O (there is no clear main character as it is exchanges between literary characters from numerous books so I don't think there are any letters we can use for MCs..."O" might be most useful anyway since vowels can be difficult to come by)
Because of Miss Bridgerton: B, R, J, Q, G
I Hunt Killers: I, B, L, J, D, G, T

Also planned and (fingers crossed) hope to finish:
The Promise: K, A, B, F, C
The Foxe & the Hound: R, G, A, F, M, T
The Mind: M, R, W, G, F, K, S
So Good: S, A, N, R, M, D

I can probably squeeze in another short one on audio as well.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments Since we are dropping the first 2, I am not going to read Discovery of Witches, because of size and will do shorter ones.

Are we OK on the ladder?

message 218: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments I am reading Once in a Lifetime
and will read 2 category titles The Yuletide Rescue and Undercover Protector. This will give us YOU a high scoring word.

message 219: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 04, 2019 08:22AM) (new)

I think we're still missing a rung?

Here's what we've got completed:
Only Time Will Tell - 386
What Happens in Texas - 384
Déjà Dead - 532
The Story of Us - 406
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd - 288
Hideaway - 466
The Lightning-Struck Heart - 402
Unsheltered - 471
Because of Miss Bridgerton - 387

What Linda & I have posted as planned:
Once in a Lifetime (link was to audio version - paperback is listed at 352 and kindle is listed at 368 pages so we'll have to make sure to link the correct edition)
Undercover Protector - 288
I Hunt Killers - 359
The Promise - 518
The Foxe & the Hound - 330
So Good - 280

*any books not listed do not meet the 250 page count limit

I don't blame you. It's a good book, but its a long one!

YOU is great. Thanks Linda! I went ahead and put the letters in the SS.

When I complete my list, I'll have almost all of WORDCOUNT. Just missing one of the "Os" and the "U" That would be 330 points.

The Lightning-Struck Heart - 402
Pippi Calzaslargas - 285 (my unfinnished book)

I should be good to finish my word. I have one to add that I finished last night, one almost done that I'll listen to the rest while folding laundry, and 2 that are super short so won't take long at all. Then I'll finish up the other ones tomorrow.

I've also got another short audio one I'll finish that could add: H, T, S, A, or L.

Our ladder isn't finished because Paula hasn't added a completion for her book yet.

If you can add to the two books Jennifer posted and the audio one I posted about above to make another word that would be perfect!

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments I have added the word WOULD - your little audio above will be the L when you finish it.
I have added in Jennifer's 2 for the O and D

I will read for W and U

I'll check out the rest of them tomorrow and see what else I come up with

I'm not certain I'll get my "O" book finished today in time so I'm re-working the books I've read for that one to fit other words just in case.
