Ive added mh first book and will update it with scavenger items once i finish it, ive only added one vook because im such a mood reader i dont plan in advance i just read what takes my fancy once im fin8shed one x

Amanda (writers_soul) | 426 comments Added Milk and Honey with all the scavenger words but I didn’t create any meals with it yet as I figured it would be mixed with some other books instead of used on its own. I will be reading another short book today and also starting It. That one I probably won’t have finished till the last round of the challenge, it’s a chunker so I know it’ll take me awhile.

Sarah (sjohnson33071) | 191 comments Maybe we should just read read read for the first week and add to spreadsheets and then we can sort out which meals we are making? Or would everyone rather make the meals as we go?

message 107: by kirsty gray (new)

kirsty gray (kirstygray) | 174 comments I dont mind, the book ive been reading has quite a few scavenger words into it im at 91% so will be finished soon and will add the words ive found to the spreadsheet later xx

I’m just focusing on reading and adding my books to the spreadsheet then will be focusing on making meals later once we all have read some. I think that makes the most sense :)

message 109: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Yeah I think it'd make more sense to accumulate a bunch of books to work with first. We can still create the meals at a later point. The books I added to the second tab were just to showcase how it'll work.

If we find enough scavenger words in each book I think it'd be smarter to use them for the scavenger hunt as it'll take less books than certain spell-it-out words that are longer than needed. Hope that makes lol.

kirsty gray (kirstygray) | 174 comments ive finished my first book and it has quite a few scavenger words in it will i list them here and then they can be added at a later date then??

message 111: by Jodi (new)

Jodi | 14 comments Mmkkk... so I reviewed the rules, watched the video etc etc... and I’m gathering at this point that I just read and keep track of book names/authors/narrators etc and then keep a list of food or drink items I come across in each book? Is that all I need to do for now? I don’t need exact page or location for these words? Just book and word? We’ll figure out the spreadsheet thing later? Am I somewhat on the right path? Lol

message 112: by Amanda (new)

You need the page number I believe unless say it’s an audio book. I know they did put the page number for the example spreadsheet. Yes we as a team are going to make our meals after we get some reading done :)

message 113: by Jodi (new)

Jodi | 14 comments Just page number of the book or page number of where the food word is found?

message 114: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (writers_soul) | 426 comments Jodi wrote: "Just page number of the book or page number of where the food word is found?"

Page number of where the food is found

message 115: by Jodi (new)

Jodi | 14 comments Or time if it’s an audio? That’s a lot of note taking lol

message 116: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments If you're listening to an audio it's okay to just remember the chapter the word was in

Same :) I decide to go for a notebook this time though 😂

message 119: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Lol I know myself and know that I won't take a notebook with me wherever I go (not that I'm going many places, and especially not where I'll read, but still haha!)

I’ll update mine once I can get on the computer tomorrow. I’ve only been on my phone, my fiancé works from home and work has been crazy the last few days, I’m to lazy to charge the laptop 😂

When you open the spreadsheet on your computer on the row of icons at the top, almost toward the end there will be an icon that looks like a broken chain. You click on that, insert the link from Goodreads and then type in the title.

Here is a quick video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoWiB...

If you are still struggling, just let us know the title and author and we can link it for you :)

message 124: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sjohnson33071) | 191 comments I will try to update everything on my end tomorrow. I don’t have computer internet at home just my phone 😞

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments How are we all doing? Happy with your reading progress so far? I started working on jigsaw puzzles again while listening to audiobooks which keeps me well motivated :)

Kirsty, I see you're reading (or plan to at least) Such A Fun Age. I've got the audiobook on hold from my elibrary currently! :)

I actually nedd to delete that off spreadsheet as i gave up after abut 35%, i just couldnt get into it, found it very slow and boring! It might be better listening to it rather than reading it tho so hopefully you enjoy it more!! Its a bit rubbish because i very very rarely give up on a book but i just had to with this one!! X

aw man, that sucks! I still wanna give it a shot, especially after the whole reading rush (readathon) debacle; hopefully I'll enjoy the audiobook more.

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments I finished Bridge to Terabithia a few hours ago and even though I had seen the movie several times in the past and already knew what to expect, it still hit me hard and I'm still feeling fragile and like I might break into tears (again) even hours after finishing.... ):

it's now hands down one of my all time favourite books now, even if it left me so sad!!

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Kirsty, when you get a chance please add reasons to your spell-it-out options and @everyone please remember that we can use letters more than once with e.g. two different names starting with the same letter

yeah of course, it's two different reasons. this isn't like uno or any other team challenge where a book can only get used once anyway :)

here's what my spell-it-out options for Bridge of Therabithia look like:
AAAABBBBEEJJJJKLMP (T: Bridge, A: Katherine Paterson, C: Jesse Aarons jr., Leslie Burke, May Belle, Janice Avery, Jesse Aarons sr., Ellie, Brenda, Mrs. Aarons, Bill, Judy, Ms. Edmunds)

Amanda (writers_soul) | 426 comments I’m doing good! I should have My Sister, the Serial Killer and Now We Can Talk Openly about Men done today. I started another book I’ll update in the spreadsheet later. I have to add the proper edition to Goodreads. I’ll also be starting the audiobook for The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires tonight or tomorrow.

Jodi | 14 comments Ok... so I have a lot of stuff going on and I’m going to try and participate and read as much as I can... I can do my best or if you want to look for another teammate I understand. My teenage daughter had an Anorexia relapse and we may be checking her into an inpatient treatment facility so it’s just been a stressful time. I don’t want to bring you all down but just wanted to give you a heads up that I may not be a power reader for awhile. If you want to replace me.. I totally get it!

oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that Jodi! Remember to do what's best for your family and ignore what everybody else might say or think. Your family is all that matters <3

if you want to keep going with us you're welcome to!

Samantha | 507 comments Sending lots of love your way, Jodi <3 Family first as always.

I added the two books I read this week. Work has really blown up so I wasn't able to do as much reading as I'd like.

Amanda (writers_soul) | 426 comments Christina wrote: "We need to update our team spreadsheet and create meals by Friday next week!"

Do we have to do the meals every two weeks per round?

message 145: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (writers_soul) | 426 comments I updated my characters and words for My Sister, the Serial Killer. I listened to the audiobook so I used the chapter titles as the justification for where the food words were found. That is the information in the parenthesis. I am still working on Now We Can Talk Openly about Men which I am hoping to finish tomorrow night. I am heading on a short vacation Saturday-Tuesday so I won't be getting as much reading as I would like done during that time. I will be sticking to a few shorter books to get us some fresh meals. When I get back I have some "longer" books I will be focusing on that will be able to be used as fresh or frozen.

well, mods want/need to know how everyone's doing, if there are any inactive teams etc etc. they posted about it in the nbrc bar thread - that's why I usually encourage everyone to turn on notifications for all threads that got to do with the team challenge

message 147: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments I finished listening to the audiobook of To Kill a Mockingbird last night and while I'm well aware that it would have taken me forever to get through it had I read my actual physical book, I really really liked it?! I'm surprised to be honest, I'm usually not one to actually enjoy classics.

I just saw the post. I check the threads regularly but I missed that one. I’ll be home middle of next week and can sit down at my computer and update everything I’ve read from vacation. I’m hoping to read 4-5 books for the fresh category. Also is there a reason our planning spreadsheet shows that I would have 5 ingredients/ spell it out available for Girl in a Bad Place when really it should only be 4?

message 149: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments is anybody planning on reading a book over 500 pages? just curious as we'd actually get most points with drinks/desserts but can only use 500p+ books for those "meals"

I am going to be starting IT next week but I won’t have it done until round 2 or 3.
