At first I was torn between the two but after the betrayal definitely team Cal.

GUYS IM LIKE 50 PAGES FROM THE END OF THE BIG UK EDITION OF THE BOOK I AM SO ANNOYED WITH CAL BUT I LOVE HIM SO

I was Team Cal at first, and then I get to know more about Maven, how protective he is for Mare. And then at the twist part of the book, I was like "How dare you? I trusted you". All my feelings to Maven turned to hatred, but still at the end of the book I'm still hoping that there's something left from Maven..some true feelings for Mare.. I'm still hoping..

cal annoyed me so much throughout this book everyone was great but Cal. I love Maven and I want him to be with Mare am just hoping that his mother is some how manipulating him but if not I'll still love Maven because he is just so great and delivered the best line in the whole book, "the truth is what I make it, I could set the world on fire and call it rain."

I want to believe something like that to

Team Cal. While I liked Maven's character till shit hit the fan, I still wouldn't like to see him with Mare. And I don't see Maven as a Darkling 2.0. Being a "bad boy/villian" doesn't automatically make you another Darkling. Maven and the Darkling's causes are different and caused by different things. Maven because of being manipulated by his mother coupled with being overlooked and therefore not having as much power as Cal, is doing this for the power and strength he wasn't allowed like Cal, whereas the Darkling truly believed in his cause of making things better for the Grisha due to how he was treated as a child.

I don't understand why people are saying that Maven is kind and gentle. He's a sociopath, he was just using Mare and Cal

Yes I ship it!!!

I want Mare to be with Maven. I love him even though he betrayed her. There is just something about him that I can't get over.

I actually liked Maven because I knew what was coming. With all his flaws he's more interesting than Cal to me.

I like both of them equally in the beginning until the end of the book. When Maven just did to Mare and I am like HOW DARE YOU! He was "protecting" Mare, but truly it was Cal all along. Cal kind of took my heart in the end because of what Maven was playing with Mare.

I cannot believe the ending! How could Maven do that to her! I always felt something was off about him but I didnt think he would stoop to that level. I use to be leaning a little tiny bit toward Maven, now I want him dead in the book. Cal all the way.

I had a bad feeling about Maven. I did NOT think he was going to betray but.... I just had a weird/bad feeling about him. There was something wrong. (I have a good intuition) So that means I choose Cal.

I feel in love with Cal almost instantly when he caught Mare stealing. However, his duties do get in the way of his true feelings. Just Mare and Cal moments I can see the two are perfect but when duties calls, Cal put pleasing the court and his father above any feelings he has for Mare. Maven, on the other hand, is always overlooked and has no reputation to uphold so, it's easier for him to let his true feelings out. In all honesty I'll be fine with either, I'll just be a little happier if it's Cal.

Team Maven! I'm hoping there is some hidden reason why he did what he did.

I guess I'm one of the few ppl who didn't like Maven. I get why ppl do and I didn't hate him, but man I see no turning around from that ending... Nor do I want it. I loved Cal from minute one and especially now that he has LITERALLY no one left how could you not want him to get a shred of happiness in the future! I feel like Cal is a strong enough person to hold his own with Mare and still give her the gentle kindness that she seems to need. Meaning Mare is obviously an extremely strong person mentally. Sometimes you need a person who can both stand up to you AND soften you a little

Evil Marven needs to be saved!Mare can pull him from over the edge and save him

I didn't assume that I'd be in the minority on this, but I'm actually Team Cal for this book. Maybe it's because I assumed Maven would end up betraying Mare in the end, but as much as I enjoyed his struggle I was not able to love him as much as Cal. Cal's duties may get in the way of his emotions but he was raised to be king and was raised to be that way; that made his transition into the rebellion even greater. Perhaps it's because I felt Mare and Cal had more chemistry together (or because let's just say his fire isn't the only thing about him that's hot ;)) but their romantic relationship to me was better and even though it clearly is not the driving plot of the book I'm still excited to watch it develop.

Maven 100% Maven and that's weird because the younger sweet brother isn't usually the one I like.

To be honest, I side with Mare at the end of the book. Even though Cal seems like a great guy he could be really dangerous in the future. Also, as much as I loved Maven throughout the book I knew he was to good to be true. Now all I see is this demon of a man. I'm hoping in the next book that Cal pulls through and becomes the nice guy because I doubt Kilorn is even in the running for Mare's heart.

Yeah,I kind of agree, Mare actually said towards the end of the book that she chooses no one because she felt betrayed by both brothers, but I feel like Cal is a nice guy deep down, but he was raised to be something that he wasn't. Maven was the one who wanted a cruel and cold silver king. I'm still rooting for Cal though, because I almost feel like Mare's the only person who can really help him escape what he was raised to be. Granted, perhaps I'm saying this because I felt Cal and Mare had better chemistry, but that's kind of besides the point :)

I get what Kristen is saying I did like Cal more then I like Maven but at this point I don't know how I feel about romance between them.

I love both but I'm going to go with Maven.

Since she was told that she is supposed to marry him, and they started loving each other, I really loved him, I know the endidng shocked me! but I don't care because any twist can happen and things will totally change. I love Maven, but the fact that he was okay with torturing her made me so conflicted. I could tell that he had feelings for her. I don't like Cal, even though he is such a gentleman to her. IM SO CONFLICTED

that is exactly why i loved Maven, even after the ending , he reminds me of Warner ( only god knows how much i love warner), i know they are not the same, i read all the books and the novellas , warner did what he did for greater goals, but i can't help but be reminded by him when i read about Maven

OMG ME TOO!! That's why I'm team Maven, because in a way he reminds me of WARNER too!! I'm just in love with Aaron Warner. Warner has this power and the breathtaking, complex, and amazing character. Maven has this heartwarming character too. The fact that Warner did what he did for good goals, let's hope that this is the case for Maven too! <3

Its been a few weeks since I read the book and I think i've settled my thoughts. Sooooo for an update... I'm Maven af
