I'd be ok with it being blue

message 54: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (aellen) | 129 comments I'd say that is pretty blue.

Preeti (preetisunaina) | 986 comments Hi. I added a book to the planning sheet (A Botanist's Guide to Parties and Poisons (Saffron Everleigh Mystery #1)) but the box to mark it as a blue cover book is missing. Whom do I inform about this? Thanks.

Preeti (preetisunaina) | 986 comments I have a doubt...how many people from each team can volunteer for DQs? I was planning on volunteering for If We Were Villains (Dec BOTM). Thanks.

message 57: by Cordelia (new)

Cordelia | 464 comments Anyone can volunteer for DQs, in fact the more people the better as the odds are better of being chosen. But only one team gets chosen per round. If you get chosen, you can pass the question off to someone else from your team if you don't want to do it, but only if they've also signed up.

Lexi | 4256 comments I'm back in the US from my 30+ hour trip back. It looks like most everyone is doing fine with the spreadsheet.

Preeti, it looks like someone fixed the missing box so that's great.

There are no points from BOM this round so feel free to volunteer as you want. There is a side prize for the team with the most BOM points to pick some future BOMs, but it does NOT affect team standings for Wheel.

It was me! But the app hasn't been letting me post so it was not fun while I was on vacation.

The app is awful!!! On my phone and iPad, I only access GR on the browser, and there too only in desktop mode.

Lexi, I hope you are getting plenty of rest after that long trip.

I have volunteered for If We Were Villains. I have read it before and loved it so would love to read it again.

Saar The Book owl | 728 comments I'm starting my first book this weekend. Does it need to be word AND color or word OR color? And the last day of round 1 is Nov. 21th? Just to be sure ;)

message 64: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4256 comments Melanie,

When you have time, could you add page numbers to the kindle edition for Now Is Not the Time to Panic? It is 249 pages. (Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09...)
Thank you

Any book must fit for at least one letter in our word of the week. We have all 5 blue cover books claimed so that is good. We get an extra 5 points for books with over 10 tags for space opera but don't feel like you must read one. Hope that answers your question. I will post the countdown in the next post and add it to the top of the thread.

Lexi | 4256 comments I've got a meeting in 25 minutes but posting for those that like to plan. Our word for next week is "THE LAST HOUSE ON NEEDLESS STREET," The color cover is red, and books get extra points for at least 10 tags for "Mythology." I will get a planning sheet up this evening. (Also, just a FYI, in future weeks, we will get the next week's information on Saturday but got it early this week).

Preeti (preetisunaina) | 986 comments Hi. Could we get some more lines on the tracking sheet? There are only two empty lines and my book does not work for either.

Or should I just add the books below the lines with all the letters they work for?
Thanks.

message 70: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7436 comments Mod
Add it below the lines. We’ll shift some books around and get it to fit. We can only have 1 partial spelling and as long as these words are we don’t want to start a 3rd unless we know the first 2 are complete.

Thanks, Judith. That is what I thought as well but I wasn't sure if adding the books on the lower lines would not muck up things.☺️

message 74: by Cordelia (new)

Cordelia | 464 comments I had extra reading time this week and I will have even more today, so I'm going to go ahead and claim the last 2 letters of the word. I used The for T since I think that's allowed and finished that book up this morning, and a character from a Poirot book for O which I believe I'll be able to finish up either today or tomorrow. I had one of those mornings when I only had a few pages left of a couple books to read, always such a good feeling to finish a few back to back like that.

Which makes me curious, do you all prefer to read one book at a time or multiple books? I usually have A book I'd rather focus on, but since I read in a few different settings (i.e. work, home, and maybe an audiobook when I'm doing other stuff) I usually have 2 or 3 going on. More if I'm reading a classic or nonfiction, one where I pause more often to give my brain a break.

message 75: by Cordelia (last edited Nov 19, 2022 08:23AM) (new)

Cordelia | 464 comments Also, I was planning on reading Daughter of the Forest next week (has been my plan since the beginning of this month) and one of the top shelves is mythology so that was such perfect timing. Now, if only it had more red! I think the border at the bottom and the red text isn't enough to qualify it.

I don't think this would be enough red either, right? Little Thieves (Little Thieves, #1) by Margaret Owen

message 76: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (aellen) | 129 comments I would say that the T in The counts since that is the technical first word of the title.

Before this year, I would really only read physical copies of books - which was almost always a one book kind of situation for me. Now that I read electronically as well, I find my brain can manage more than one book at a time. Before, it felt like I couldn't manage all the different storylines in multiple books.

I looked up Daughter of the Forest - no, I don't think that would be enough red - it definitely doesn't seem like 50%. For Little Thieves, I would say that probably isn't enough red as well. I'll let the other captains weigh in their opinions as well.

Preeti (preetisunaina) | 986 comments Am I right in thinking that Round 1 finishes on the 21st?

message 78: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (aellen) | 129 comments I double checked, Preeti, and yes, round 1 ends on November 21st.

message 79: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4256 comments I have opened up a new word as we have filled the original two. However, if anyone is not going to finish their book in time, please remove it so I can move books around to make sure we only have 1 incomplete word.

Just to repeat what Ariel said (which was correct), the first word can always be used, even if it is a The or A, and color books have to be over 50% that color, of which sadly neither book you mentioned it.

I will post the countdowns for each round at the top of the thread in message 7.

I'll be finishing my 3, though I moved Child of the Prophecy to next week. I don't think I can get that done by the cutoff on Monday. And it works for the mythology tag.

But I replaced it with a shorter one I can get done.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I may switch out Satsuma Complex for a different book but I'll definitely finish something for the B.

Is it OK to start a book now for round 2? We don't need to wait till the round starts do we?

Nope, you can start books now for round 2

Saar The Book owl | 728 comments I've added the book that I've finished yesterday to the sheet.

message 86: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Is there a maximum number of books we can read as a team? I started a book yesterday that I can probably finish today but wasn't sure if it was better to hang off till round 2 starts. I remember in last year's wheel there were penalties if a team went over.

message 87: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4256 comments There is no book limit this time so feel free to read as many books as you want

It looks more of a pinky orange (like a dark salmon color) than a red on my computer.

It looks so completely different on every device I have looked at it on so I thought I'd get a second opinion. But yes, I think it might have been a bit of wishful thinking on my part.
