Kirsten | 268 comments NGL, I don’t entirely understand Reverse, Wild, and Draw cards. I’m assuming that as we get to the end of the month, some will let us know what’s needed.

message 102: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments A Reverse is a book that another team member has already read at any time, not just during UNO. I just saw in the Book Tracking tab that Jackie just read The Wind In the Willows. I read that many times as a child and again to my children but had forgotten so I added it to my Read shelf. Also found my copy. What an absolutely delightful story that is. Would you believe there are over 6200 editions listed on GR?? I added my name in the Reverse column as another option in Jackie's listing.

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Nikki, please log it in both the Book Tracking Tab and the February Tab, just in case we need to move something :)

Done :-)

Kirsten | 268 comments Umm...

Are we supposed to be doing completion posts? I've been logging on both pages of the spreadsheet.

message 106: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Whoops, I completely forgot about those! Unless Mary says anything, as long as you are putting your finished books in both the Book Tracking Tab and the February Tab, we should be good. The book tracking tab asks you to log the same information as a completion post would, so you would save yourself from doing it twice unless otherwise stated :)

message 107: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments I just really like completion posts because it keeps me accountable! But like Kylie said, the Book Tracking Tab and Feb Tab filled out should be enough!

Okay, great! I was looking through some older posts and saw that request, and realized we weren't doing that. I'd be glad not to--and I have been diligently filling out that super handy excel sheet.

message 109: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I just added the Yellow 9 book to the tracking tab but didn’t put other options in. Do I need to? I’m on my Blue 3 atm. We seem to have all the colour cards covered with a few Wild 4’s listed as well so I assume the colours wouldn’t be shuffled about. I’ll put the options in if necessary.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments We'll have a MIni Challenge coming soon, won't we? They're always extra fun.

message 111: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments I enjoy the mini challenges too, Elisabeth.

message 112: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Yes, the Mini Challenge is coming up! It is still *top secret* for now but I can say it's gonna be a fun one :)

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 311 comments I finished another couple of books. I will update the spreadsheet when I get home

message 114: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments I did not even know there were mini challenges.

message 115: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments Finished!

The Kraken's Sacrifice (A Deal With a Demon, #2) by Katee Robert

The Dragon's Bride (A Deal With a Demon, #1) by Katee Robert

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Kirsten wrote: "I did not even know there were mini challenges."

Mini Challenges are kept more on the down low but they are a really fun part of UNO! Basically, when the second half of the month rolls around, a Mini Challenge will be put on our spreadsheets. Each Mini Challenge is different, with a new set of tasks to complete. If you have ever played in the Seasonal Reading Challenge, it is pretty similar. The goal is to read a book that fits the task (one book per task) AND the book also has to go with a UNO card. It seems complicated but it's really straightforward. If you have any questions once the Mini comes out, I will be here to answer them to the best of my ability :)

message 117: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Thanks! I look forward to it!

message 118: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Hello Everyone! The February Mini Challenge has officially opened!

All the info is posted in the R spots on this thread and the tracking sheet has been updated with a planning sheet! Please go ahead and take a look at the tasks so we can decide what books we want to put where :)

The challenge officially starts on Feb 14, 9 am UTC. Once again, I can help you with any and all questions you might have! Lets get planning :)

message 119: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments The book I'm reading now fits a few tasks --trees on cover and mentions an Asian martial art, words in text etc Where should I slot that in? And perhaps we need a mini options column on our tracking sheet? I'm leaning towards the Martial art as less common but it's in the bonus section.

message 120: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Orange enough cover? Towards Zero by Agatha Christie

message 121: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments I would love to put your book in the extra points section, but that section does only feel optimal if we are able to fill the whole thing. For now, just slot it in wherever and we can move it around based on what other books people find. For the cover, I would say that it is definitely orange enough :)

I will go ahead and add a mini options column on the book tracking tab right now!

Mary Hangen | 376 comments Y'all I just got to say you are amazing!

Also that I am so sorry for being MIA. I've worked roughly 180 hours the last two weeks.

I promise to be better!

message 123: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments That's terrible, Mary! Hope work calms down some for you.

Mary Hangen | 376 comments How's the start of everyone's week?

message 125: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Hello Team! The Mini Challenge has officially begun!

TIme to get reading and rack up some extra points :)

message 126: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Mary wrote: "How's the start of everyone's week?"

My week has been kinda crazy so far. School has been kicking my butt with the amount of work I have to finish each week. Procrastination is my greatest enemy at the moment!

But all in all, it has been a good week so far :)

message 127: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Mary wrote: "How's the start of everyone's week?"

My new week is good because my husband and I just came through a bout of Covid and are now testing negative. Did a lot of reading though when I was in bed for a couple of days!

I'm glad you posted that, Kylie, because I'd lost track of my time zone start and have three books poised for the finish.

message 129: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments I am working at my real job this week, but I have managed to read a few books--included a February bonus! I'll update the spreadsheet soon.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 311 comments I just finished Friday the Witchteenth which is book #20 in the Wicked Witches of the Midwest series -

Would this work for "Read a book with the word "WEST" or "WESTERN" in the text (6 points) or title or series title (10 points)" in the mini challenge?

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Nikki, unfortunately we won’t be able to use your book for that mini task. Sorry about that

message 137: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I have 2 books scheduled to read but can fit in another short one, maybe two. A couple of Agatha Christie's are on the tagged Winter mini task list. Did I mention I have all her books courtesy of my dear late Mum who read them constantly? They're great for Uno I've discovered.
Does anyone have a Winter book on the go or have that task in mind? I'm happy to tackle anything else that we need.

message 138: by Kylie (last edited Feb 16, 2023 09:04PM) (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments I really enjoyed the first two Hercule Poirot books, and I would love to read more of Agatha Christie. However, I have entirely too many books on my tbr to facilitate that reality!

Tackle as much as you want to tackle! I dream of the day when I can read more than 5-8 books a month, so I commend everyone here who has that capability :)

I think I've read all of Agatha Christie's books. Some of them multiple times. They very often fit for challenges and I've always loved them.

message 142: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments In that case I'll shift HP's Christmas to the final reverse slot instead of the 6 where I put it because I imagine the reverse is harder to cover.

message 143: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I just finished A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf. What a fantastic little book. I found it when going through the Justice tagged list and was surprised I didn't have a copy already as I have most of her books.
If you haven't read it I strongly recommend it. It's a discourse written in 1928 on women's position in society throughout history and Woolf's exploration of why women didn't write until the 1800's.

She decides it is basically because to write without interruption women need a room of their own and money to live off, neither of which was available to women. She's a beautiful writer and it's a really thought provoking and fascinating read. My ebook edition was only 139 pages.

I've put it in the open 7 card slot because I figured that's harder to cover than 0 where I put it originally and which is now our only unclaimed card.

Kirsten | 268 comments Elisabeth wrote: "In that case I'll shift HP's Christmas to the final reverse slot instead of the 6 where I put it because I imagine the reverse is harder to cover."

I’m not much of good at the reverses, so thank you for picking up my slack!

I totally agree about Room of Ones Own, though I’m not a fan of stream of consciousness writing, in fact, I’m struggling to finish one now! I suspect it will stay with me and I’ll be glad I read it, but it’s a slog for now. The book is At Swim, Two Boys.

On the other hand, if you have any interest in M/M, I can’t recommend Cat Sebastian’s Cabot series highly enough. Just lovely.

message 145: by Mary (new)

Mary Hangen | 376 comments Alright, it has been a hectic few weeks for me. How is everyone else doing?

I am almost done with The King of Bones and Ashes (Witches of New Orleans, #1) by J.D. Horn so that'll hit for February

I am working on Haunting Adeline (Cat and Mouse Duet, #1) by H.D. Carlton and The Prison Healer (The Prison Healer, #1) by Lynette Noni , if we need them for February I can push them or I can hold them for March.

I'll be able to better look at the spreadsheet this evening or tomorrow, but if you see something that works for these please let me know :)

message 146: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Haunting Adeline's cover looks black so would fit that final empty slot in the Black Turtle mini section.

And we seem to be short on those Mini text slots for South/ southern or West / western and twilight/sunset.

message 147: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments I just realized I hadn’t used Dragonquest for the mini yet, and so I added it for Southern. I was waiting for others, but Peter Cabot can fill in either west or sunset.

That leaves BEAST/PREDATOR, a tiger, black cover, and west or sunset.

I have 2 long books left. I’ll definitely finish them, and could prolly swap one of my earlier books to pick up a mini if all y’all want to commit to trying to complete the regular mini.

Jackie, how ambitious are you feeling? 😉

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 311 comments I am nearly done with my current read for another Challenge which will hit for February so will see if it works for anything in the mini challenge then i will see if I can find something that will work for an empty mini challenge slot and try to punch out one more book

message 149: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Kirsten wrote: "I just realized I hadn’t used Dragonquest for the mini yet, and so I added it for Southern. I was waiting for others, but Peter Cabot can fill in either west or sunset.

Ambitious? Always. Lol

I found one for BEAST, and I'll look for a tiger one. Also can do the animals one in the extra task section but will hold off until the regular tasks are finished.

message 150: by Kirsten (last edited Feb 22, 2023 05:21PM) (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Yes—if we get that far, I’ll pick some bonus up, too. On my phone, so it’s a pain to update, but I’ve got

South
West
Sunset

covered with what I’ve read/am reading. I’ll wait on tiger, bc 2 long books (for monopoly, of course).
