Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I'm off to the library today to borrow an Alaskan set book. There are quite a few I discovered from a catalogue search. Surprise, surprise.

So I will cover the Alaskan set slot.

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments Thank ya Elisabeth! You are awesome!

message 253: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Do we have our April cards yet?

message 254: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Well, I took one for the team with the Alaska book. Wasn't much plot going on and had a few annoying contradictions to make things work.
I can fill the last regular space now with one of my endless supply of Agatha Christie's.

message 255: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Thanks, Elizabeth. Sometimes, you’ve just got to hold your nose and read!

I’m excited to start planning April. I have some red and yellow books I hope to use.

That about sums it up, Kirsten. hahaha. I usually enjoy the author too so it was disappointing.

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments Completion!

That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger

It was a terrible time to read this book, but at least it was fiction and not nf.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

message 259: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Tiffany, are either of those books listed for slots in the March sheet? If not one can take the slot I've filled for a 2 in hand 15. I can slow down my reading of N or M and use it for April otherwise your books are wasted, I think. At least it looks that way to me.

message 260: by Kirsten (last edited Mar 28, 2023 06:36PM) (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments OMG--I can also slow down.

I could wait on Secret Agent Analyst (hand 16; standalone), Confetti Hearts, and Foxed (hand 13, 9). Let me know.

Don't if they fit the Mini though, Kirsten! haha

Well, there is that, but I might be able to move some things around. Confetti Hearts is NOT a mini...

They are not in the March sheet yet! So they can totally fit!

message 264: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Great work thus far everyone!

We are one book away from completing the mini and six away from completing the month! I will finish my book right before the month ends, but please let us know if you cannot complete a book. We have a lot of read books that are not on the spreadsheet that can easily cover those tasks left :)

Hope everyone has had a great March!

message 265: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Okay. I moved my Hand 15, 2 card book to the April sheet so that March slot is empty.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 311 comments I have two more finished books to add to the spreadsheet and maybe a third but I can't do it till I get home tonight

That's completely fine!!! Keep up the great work!

message 268: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I have a blue cover Fontana edition of this Agatha Christie but GR doesn't show the cover Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie .
Mine definitely has a blue background where this one is purple can I use it do you think, captains? It would fit blue 6 / wild 4.

message 269: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments Do you have a google images link? Just to verify! Or a pic?

message 270: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments We have officially completed our second month of UNO!

All slots have been completed and filled up as of today, so if you are currently close to being done with a read and want to wait to use it for an April slot, you are more than welcome to!

Great job, everyone! Let's keep things going as we head into our final month of UNO :)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Tiffany wrote: "Do you have a google images link? Just to verify! Or a pic?"

That’s getting techno complicated for my non tech brain. Haha. I did look at google books but it’s not listed. It’s okay, the library I go to often displays books in cover colours. I guess librarians like to have fun with them. Handy for Wild 4.

A lot of my Agatha’s colours are wrong on TinEye or look different in the GR pic. Must be because they’re old editions. Bought 2nd hand in the 70’s and 80’s.

message 272: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments That's okay! Also that is so cool! Love librarians!

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Hello Everyone!

On the spreadsheet, I noticed that one of the hands for April didn't transfer over properly, so some shuffling has to be done. The hand and the cards that are affected by this will be listed below. Thankfully only three books were affected by this. I will change the hand to the correct one, and hopefully, those books can find a new slot with ease :)

HAND 4
- 8: For the Sake of Elena Read by: Elisabeth
- 7: The Book of the Dead Read by: Jackie
- 4: Legends & Lattes Read by: Jackie

message 274: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments For the Sake of Elena was not mine.

message 276: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I just added a book to the 7 green slot . The character last name is Van Horn. I'm assuming that counts as a V. If not it can go in as Wild 4 duplicating Green 3.

I flipped through looking for the names and an amazing number of them start with P!

message 277: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments I think Van Horn starts with a V. It would be alphabetized under V--when I was little, and we had a dispute like this, my daddy would always say "let's check with Ma" and we'd get out the phone book. (for Ma Bell, when AT&T had a de facto monopoly and published phone books, all y'all who are much younger than I)

message 278: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments We still get a phone book delivered each year but it’s yellow and white pages combined, three quarters yellow pages and and much smaller over all. Used to be two fat books, one yellow pages, one white pages. Come to think of it we didn’t get one this year. Turns up in Feb usually so maybe they’ve given it up.

message 279: by Mary (new)

Mary Hangen | 376 comments Jackie how did you like Legends & Lattes??

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Hello Team!

The April Mini Challenge has been posted, and I have added it to the tracking spreadsheet for everyone to take a look at. I will also post the challenge tasks in one of the reserved spots for everyone to have a look at and for easy access/referencing :)

The last UNO mini challenge begins April 12 at 9am UTC

Absolutely no worries! Happens to the best of us. I always have to double-check after I've marked a book read :)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I've added Frankenstein in the Mini second part Platypus slot. I figured the monster was made from body parts and a platypus is a weird mix of other animal types ie it lays eggs but suckles its babies, has a duck's bill and webbed feet but a furry body and jaws like a mammal. People thought it was a hoax when drawings first arrived back in England from the early scientists.

Dr Frankenstein also qualifies the book to go in the 'character is a scientist' section in Part 1 if you think the platypus idea is a bit wild.

I personally like the platypus idea... just saying :-)

Great! Thanks everyone. It also qualifies as a slow read hahaha. Has anyone read it? Luckily it’s only 200 pages. The actual construction and ‘enlivening’ of the monster is glossed over in a few sentences. Maybe Mary Shelley had no idea how it could possibly be done.

I read it in college, and was pretty disappointed. After all the pop culture variations, it seemed pretty dull.

Yes I agree. It got moving towards the end but a lot of practical details were glossed over. The basic idea is good though with the creator becoming as tormented as his creation.

message 297: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments I read it last year actually!

I definitely wish it was longer and had more details but overall it was good for the beginning of the horror genre.

Kirsten | 268 comments Hi, Team and Captains--

I may have bit off more than I can chew, and I moved a book that had already been checked in. Agents of Winter (Hand 3, Card 4) fits into Hand 9, Card Blue 6. Because the colored cards are worth more and I may not get to Siren Queen, I wanted to use that book for all the points it could get.

I hope this isn't too much of a problem.
