Jackie | 338 comments I read I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak and loved it. The Book Thief is on my TBR. Maybe I can get to it during the challenge and use it for a reverse. :)

Kirsten | 268 comments I’ve read BookThief, Jackie. I didn’t love it, but I liked it better than Downtime.

message 203: by Izzy (new)

Izzy I loved the Book Thief, I felt connected with the girl.... What if we don't have books? I would die!!! I would steal books... And the time of our history where it happens... Really good book for me.

I'm having a tough time getting through Downtime. It's a decent story, just not holding my interest.

Yes! So boring. I read it last year for scavenger hunt, and tons of my teammates loved it, but I thought it was dull as dirt.

I have to read it. Yep, I would probably steal books too.

I keep thinking it's going to get more exciting but halfway through, and not yet.

I seriously just kept reading because it was worth a TON of scavenger hunt points, and you know how I am, but it doesn't get better. There's a fun review from a guy I follow: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... who's generally pretty fussy.

Great review! Sums it up pretty well.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Do we get a Mini in March?

message 211: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Elisabeth wrote: "Do we get a Mini in March?"

Yes, the mini will be coming up here in just a few short days! It looks a little bit different compared to last month but is should be a lot of fun :)

message 212: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Ooh exciting! Thanks Kylie.

Kylie Standley | 83 comments I may or may not have lied! The Mini Challenge is here!

All the information can be found at the start of the thread, and in the Team Challenge Folder! I have added a mini tab onto our spreadsheet as well :)

The mini challenge will start on March 15, 9am UTC.

Kylie Standley | 83 comments The mini challenge has arrived!

If anyone has questions please don't hesitate to ask :)

message 215: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Would anyone mind if I added the descriptive paragraphs to the March Mini spreadsheet, so it would be easier to figure out what to read for?

Excel is my jam.

message 216: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Yes Kirsten, please go ahead!

That would be super helpful!

message 218: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments I have edited the March Mini. If you've put books in that spreadsheet, please double-check that I didn't miss anything or mess anything up.

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments I will do that today/tonight! Thank ya Kirsten!

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I just finished The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare which was a really odd book written in 1908 by GK Chesterton about police infiltrating an anarchists group. Nothing and nobody is what they seem so it fits a few Mini sections. I've put it into Arctic Hare because of the disguise/camouflage aspect but it fits a few slots in that sense. eg Chameleon, Cephalopod. There's also a snow storm and change of season Arctic Hare, a very large man Alaskan Hare, one character wears black and two have a sword fight both of which could fit Chrysso Spider.

It's a useful book to fill harder spots so our gallant leaders can decide if it needs moving because I can't really make up my mind where it fits best.

I haven’t read a Chesterton in years! Decades, prolly.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I don't think I've ever read one. I think I got this from my grandfather's vast library after he died. I was at high school. The family took what we wanted and I chose a lot of classics which I've now decided I should read, many decades later. He had a lot of Penguin classics with the orange and white covers.

I really love that Elisabeth! That sounds like a dream, inheriting ALL THE BOOKS

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Does England count as Europe for a Chrysso Spider location? That book will be my next read. If so my current US set book Trunk Music can move from Chrysso Spider to Alaskan Hare as either Location --US author or Character -- a loner.

message 226: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments Finished these this weekend!
Twisted Games (Twisted, #2) by Ana Huang
Twisted Lies (Twisted, #4) by Ana Huang
Twisted Hate (Twisted, #3) by Ana Huang

I would say yes! But let's see if my other Caps think so!

message 228: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Elizabeth, GK Chesterton sat on my Great-Grandma Mac's night table, and I would borrow them from her. They are definitely old, old school.

I'm thinking I'll look for a Father Brown or The Man Who Knew Too Much when we visit the 2nd hand bookshop next.

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments Completion!

I devoured this book after owning it for so long!!
Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley

message 233: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Do any of those books fit Mini tasks, Tiffany? Trying to work out where I can fit one of mine and where we might be short on both that and the regular sheet. I went to the shops for ricotta cheese and accidentally went into a bookshop yesterday... and accidentally bought some more books. Luckily my husband is as addicted a reader as I am. hahaha

message 234: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments I believe that:

Twisted Lies would fit for Alaskan Hare and the Male MC has isolated himself from everyone until he meets the Female MC.

Firekeeper's Daughter would work for Golden Tortoise Beetle because the MC dies but is brought back to life.

The Kraken's Sacrifice would work for Cephalopods because the Male MC is a legit kraken and the setting is all underwater.

Twisted Games would fit for Anoles because the Male MC is the Female MC's bodyguard and always tend to display dominance showing the Female MC that he's in charge of her safety. He is also a very active and agile individual.

Twisted Hate could fit Peron's Tree Frog as both of the MCS have commitment phobias.

What do you all think?

They all sound perfect to me, especially the underwater Kraken one. What an intriguing scenario.

message 236: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Unfortunately, we won't be able to use the Kraken book since you finished reading that book in February :(

We can only use books that were finished after March 15. I added all the others onto the mini sheet, and I am placing them on the spreadsheet as well :)

Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2) by Sarah J. Maas

Has anyone read this? We might be able to use it as a reverse if needed!

message 239: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I was checking what colour cards and Wild 4s are left in case I can manage to fit another book in this week and realised in Hand 5 The Ugly Duchess is duplicating a 5 instead of a colour card ie a Wild instead of a Wild Draw 4.
Thought I should mention it in case it slipped through and we don't have time to find something to cover it.

message 240: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Thank you! I'll be the first to admit that I don't entirely understand the special cards. But I'm sure I'll find a place for my duchess.

Its been a busy couple weeks but I do have a couple more books to add to the spreadsheet so hopefully we can fit them somewhere

Mary Hangen | 376 comments you guys are killing it. I'm so sorry for being so MIA. work has been killing me but I finally finished my last formal observation Wednesday and everything is settling down :) I promise to be here more soon! a huge thank you to my co-captains for killing it in my absent. I must say they are pretty amazing!!

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 311 comments in my book The Haunted Hotel Hoopla, the main character and her friends are attacked by black smoke tentacles guardring a place they are trying to access. Could this be used for cephalapod?

Unfortunately, the author has to be from Alaska

Wow. Tough. The Call of the Wild is set there though. I might see if I can get it from the library unless someone else has it. It's under 200 pages so a quick read.

message 250: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments In my current book an actress character wears a white satin dress under a platinum fur coat. Would that do for the last Arctic Hare character spot? I was hoping she might have long claw like fingernails but no such luck yet.
