I added a few books that I plan to read for some of the Mini tasks. I will add the books to the main February tracking when I complete reading them. I hope that is okay to plan that way...

I just finished Malibu Rising and added it to the tracker. Of course it's listed as one of the "Summer" books in the mini, but can't count it since I finished it before the 14th. Oh well, all good. Looking forward to reading more books that have been sitting on my TBR for awhile : )

message 103: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 316 comments True, books need to be finished after the start of the challenge in order to count but we can start planning and reading now.

Malibu Rising is on my TBR list and I'm pretty sure my library has a copy so maybe I can work on that one.

I've spent a fair bit of time going over the prompts and seeing if I have books that work. Some of the prompts are pretty challenging!

Preeti (preetisunaina) | 480 comments I have added three books that I am definitely reading and will add more after I finish them.
Tasks covered: #39 (Tagged Mysterious), #27 ("Twilight" in text) & #46 (Asian martial art in text).

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments Hello team Echidna. I just came across this book Echidnas Can't Cuddle by Nieta Manser , which made me very sad for you guys (even though it's oh so cute!)
So prickly spikes or not, have a virtual hug anyway! :)

message 107: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 316 comments Thanks everyone for adding books to the tracking sheet - I think we're looking pretty good!

Preeti - I think "Half Sick of Shadows" might also work for prompt 44 (Read a book featuring royalty - real or fictional) because it's about King Arthur, right?

We get more points for some prompts if the word they are looking for is in the title rather than the text so we might want to be mindful of that.

Thanks, Gwen! I got that completely mixed up. For some reason, I thought one word gives 6 points and the other one 10 points. I will shift the book to the royalty task and find something else for this one.

Edit: I have added a different book for Task # 27. This one has Twilight in the title.

DJ Ruby | 109 comments I just went in to update the spreadsheet and noticed that a lot of info got bumped up by lines. Someone deleted parts of rows and the info is now off. For instance, I know Stephen King did not write Malibu Rising.
Just thought everyone should know, so we can fix it. I will bump the lines down so they fit my cards correctly and hopefully that will fix everyone below me, but I'm not sure how far up it went.

Is that the mini tracking sheet or the main one for February? In either case, I can take a look at it later today, when I get home from work. I'm pretty good with spreadsheets so hopefully I can fix it.

Thanks for letting us know!

DJ Ruby | 109 comments Gwen wrote: "Is that the mini tracking sheet or the main one for February? "

It's the main one. I tried to fix what I could on my lines. Some cells got bumped up 2 lines, some by 1 line, and others were deleted altogether.

message 119: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments Spreadsheet is fixed. If you do spot errors on the sheet please highlight here so that it can be fixed rather than attempt to “bump” lines. Had to revert to yesterday’s sheet to get it corrected.

Alya | 111 comments Should we also think about claiming some prompts for the february mini?

message 126: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 316 comments Hi Alina - hopefully I can answer some of your questions.

Yes, we should read books for all the prompts for the February Mini Challenge to get maximum points. It's 10 points per prompt (unless otherwise noted) and one book per prompt.

If you click on the link to the tracking sheet, there is a tab at the bottom that shows the Mini Challenge - many of our team members have been claiming books there already.

But I do think we should keep a dialog here for several reasons. Lots of books will fit multiple prompts and we may have to juggle them around to fill all the spots.

Also, just because someone "claims" a prompt, they may or may not have time to actually complete the book by the deadline - life sometimes gets in the way of reading (a pain, I know!) and hopefully they would post to the group so we can find a work-around.

Hope this helps! I can add your completed book to the tracking sheet for you, no worries.

Gwen | 316 comments Hello all! Happy Friday!

I finally finished The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and quite enjoyed it. It was a bit of a slow read for me, lots of detail and an interesting plot, but I did like it a lot and loved the ending. It reminded me of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.

Has anyone read anything really good this week?

I really enjoyed The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, so maybe I will enjoy The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. I will add that to my TBR. I just finished The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett and thought it was a really good story. I enjoyed it. What did everyone in the group think of The Vanishing Half?

I think you would like it, Jo!

Our book group really enjoyed The Vanishing Half and we had a good discussion. Apparently there is also a BBC World Book Club discussion with the author that one of our members listened to and she said it was great! You could Google it if you're interested.

Gwen | 316 comments We have less than a week left in February! I always forget how short this month is!

I have claimed a few books for the Mini Challenge and I'm not 100% sure I'm going to be able to read them all. I'm currently reading Beasts of Prey and I put that one down for prompt #29 (HUNTER or PREY in the title) but this book also fits prompt #9 (BEAST or PREDATOR in the title) - which I think is still open. If someone has a book they can read for #29, I'm happy to switch this one to #9.

Also, I've claimed #11 and #26 and I'm not sure I can do BOTH of them. Here are the prompts:

#11: Read a book with red or orange letters on the cover.
#26: Read a book with some kind of metal or metallic object on the cover.

Can anyone do one of these? I'm sure I can do one but I'm not sure I can do both - and either one is fine with me.

Any takers?

Hi, Gwen! I read Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind and the edition I read has a pair of scissors on the cover so it works for #26.
Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind
I also read Kiss the Girls (Alex Cross #2) by James Patterson and the cover has the title in red text so that works for #11.
Kiss the Girls (Alex Cross 2) by James Patterson
Both books are already on the spreadsheet so I only have to update the mini spreadsheet once you let me know which one to edit.

message 139: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 316 comments Oh that's awesome, Preeti!

Would you be okay taking both? You can edit my info on the Mini tracking sheet and add in those two books if you're okay with that. Since you've already finished both books, lets go ahead and use both!

I'll try to fill one of the missing prompts. I have a couple that would work so I'm going to focus on that instead.

Thank you so much!

Preeti (preetisunaina) | 480 comments Done, Gwen!
Also, I have replaced the book I had listed against the royal character task with the book DJ completed yesterday. I am definitely going to be finishing the book I had added initially but it is going sooooo slow that I think I will be reading it right up to the very last few minutes of the 28th.😆

message 142: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 316 comments Thanks again, Preeti!

Yeah, I just started Beasts of Prey and it's a longer book than I thought. I hope it's a quick read but who knows! I'm hoping I'll be able to finish this one and read one (maybe two??) more by the end of the month.
