message 1: by Amy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amy | 12921 comments This is the Buddy Read for Apeirigon. This one I can absolutely state that BooknBlues rated it five stars. I am however using it for the Top Ten Candle.

I am excited to read it.

Jen K | 3143 comments Thanks Amy! I'm starting this one tonight on the Kindle. Excited to start the year with such good recommendations and ratings.

Jen K | 3143 comments I've read almost a quarter of the book (110 pages ish) and though it is some tough content, the format allows it to flow well.

I like how each section kind of hops between characters and times and birds. I'm curious if the birds will play a bigger role in the end. I also enjoy that some sections are short and others longer as needed. The actual story is so sad and I hope to learn more about the region.

Amy | 12921 comments Jen, and others, I’m a little ways off. I’m in the middle of Carrie Soto is back, and after that, I’m going to start my sub, Jew book, which is curious charms of Arthur pepper. After that, it’s like a queen of Minnesota for the food tag, and then Apeirigon. I got quite the delayed start. Plus, I have to read the island of missing trees for book club by 1/29. I am indeed hoping to fit even one more book out after that, but we shall see.

Jen K | 3143 comments @Amy, appreciate the update and no pressure at all! You have a great month of reading ahead of you!

Jen K | 3143 comments Around section 500 was rough. Definite tears. I'm learning quite a bit about Israel and Palestine which I'm enjoying. I do like the somewhat random/ sporadic format but some of the content is heavy.

It is very heavy and I sobbed.

I loved how Colum McCann wove threads from Let the Great World Spin and TransAtlantic throughout this book. Philippe Petit was featured in Let the Great World Spin.

I wish that I had read them closer together to see all of the threads more clearly.

It is all very heavy but important. I appreciate that he breaks it up a bit with the birds, history and adds some levity when appropriate.

Wow!! Thanks for the tip on connection to his other books. I've only read Let the Great World Spin but apparently that was in 2013 and I totally forgot the MC's name. I did think it was an odd but interesting tidbit to add in especially when he tried to release the bird midway.
