James Best (jamesbest) | 121 comments I'm going a bit retro this week and just started NIGHT SOLDIERS (1988) by Alan Furst, the first book in his ongoing series set in Europe both before and during WWII.

My father is a big fan of Furst's stuff, so I thought I would give one a try and see how it stacks up against the other WWII novels I have sampled over the years.

Sarah B | 1532 comments Today I have finished these two books:

Rumor of Otters by Deborah Savage

Rumor of Otters by Deborah Savage

This was a totally amazing book!! More people need to read this. If you love a nature based story like Where the Crawdads Sing then you will love this.

I also read XOR AX, AX by Andrei Saygo
XOR AX, AX by Andrei Saygo

Its very high action - pretty much nonstop with lots of danger. But its not really thrilling. I rated it 3 stars. Lots of dialogue with flat characters. But its good if you need a book for an X challenge. Its a fast read actually. The second half was better than the first part.

Sarah B | 1532 comments I am reading 2 books today, one in my kindle and one paperback. Flat Earth Book One of the Flat Earth Trilogy by Brent Golembiewski is the kindle: its mysterious, exciting and very original! The paperback is Trident's Forge (Children of a Dead Earth, #2) by Patrick S. Tomlinson which is the sequel to the 5 star The Ark (Children of a Dead Earth Book 1) by Patrick S. Tomlinson - the main detective character is back to solve another case this time on an alien world!

James Best (jamesbest) | 121 comments Going a bit retro this week with BE COOL (1999) by Elmore Leonard, his second novel featuring former shylock turned movie producer Chili Palmer.

Somehow after reading the prequel (GET SHORTY) many, many years ago this book managed to fall completely off my radar screen when it was released. Enjoying it a lot so far thanks to Leonard's snappy dialogue.

Michael (fisher_of_men) | 104 comments Currently re-reading Foundation by Isaac Asimov. The books in this series that were written by Asimov are the best. The trilogy written by other authors (after Asimov's death) are stinkers and can be skipped since they add nothing to the overall story arc.

Valerie Book Valkyrie @ Michael
Outstanding Trilogy....do not accept immitations! I read this trilogy in the 1980's and it became my favorite read ever at that time. In light of the passing decades it would be interesting to read it again today. Especially when it seems that so much contemporary "literature" is truely drivel.......sorry if that sounds harsh.
