Tammie | 4553 comments Make sure you are going to our Tracking SS
The main one is only accessed by captains.

Let me know if this doesn't work please

rule of thumb is 50%

On color questions...ask them here in our thread and your captains can confirm.
Tineye is very inconsistent, but you can use this app as a starting point if you want...ultimately, we're going to OK based on 'visual' opinions. https://labs.tineye.com/color/

I suppose it could… but I would suggest using it for the Electra Team under Winners Tower…it seems perfect for that (the title seems to fit the team name)

I can, but would you like to learn how? I'm glad to teach if you have the computer to do it.

Tammie | 4553 comments Is anyone on our team a 'Spreadsheet' expert...I'm looking for help with linking/fixing. I'm dangerous enough to get us where we are thus far, but when it comes to linking and fixing some things...I'm crap!

I can go outside the team if needed, but thought I'd recruit help here first...thanks!

OK...when you are in front of one, or plan to be, let's work on that.
There are some instructions at post #4...can be tricky when you are trying to figure things out...but see if they make sense...if they don't, I'm glad to help!

I entered your book so you have a sample to follow on the SS.

Meghna | 71 comments Thanks we can do it on Tuesday

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments Hi Team...

Check my first attempts, please?📚😆

New to this challenge...fairly new to GR challenges...several months.

I have placed two books I plan to read during the challenge on the SS on the rainbow page. I then deduced we should also place them on the "Book" SS page.

The Name of the Rose
Manners and Monsters

Is this correct procedure? Anything else I should do?

Benita

Chales, make sure that you are clicking on the Tracking Spreadsheet and not the Spreadsheet for captains only. That could be the problem, and why you are not able to add any books :)

On the book page: Finish filling out the line...'Read By'...enter your 'mini ref code'...and the 'reason'
Also...'Manners and Monsters' isn't quite yellow enough...books need to be at least 50% of the cover color. Maybe it will work for one of the winner teams...check there and if nothing else, put it in the 'spellout-Crayola Towers'

If this doesn't make sense, let me know...

Good questions...please, everyone, continue asking...we'll all benefit and have more fun if we all understand how things work :)

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments What is the "mini ref code"?

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments Thank you

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments Figured mini ref using Pickwick Papers....thanks.

I got an unbelievable result on Tineye on a color check. So I searched and found this link:

http://mkweb.bcgsc.ca/color-summarize...

I like the answers better.

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments Page count?

Should we use the default page count, Kindle, 1st edition Kindle....(some GR challenges are SUPER specific and you risk your books not counting if you use the wrong page count)

The mini ref number is on the spreadsheet left of where you put your book on each mini section

Colors are challenging
As moderators and captains we’ve agreed tineye and any other app for that matter are just starting points…captains have the authority to make the call and if we can’t decide we can take the book cover to the captains group.

Page count is the version you are reading
If you are reading audio, use the default

The default is defined as the book, when searched using the master browser…it’s that version that comes up 1st
If the one that comes up first is audio…go to the next book on the list

There is an exception for BOM
The page count for BOM is posted in the BOM thread. We all use that posted page count if we are reading a BOM.

Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) | 707 comments Just to make sure...both of the tabs (Crayola + Rainbow) are fair game for all of the slots, correct?
For example, we don't have to fill up all of one spelling "ATOMIC TANGERINE" before moving on to the next, right? Everything is open at this point? Well, as open as can be since we don't start reading until 5/1...we're just planning at this time 😜

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments I have planned some books and drafted posts for many of the pages in the SS....my own private Tower tutorial.

First timer on the Tower Challenge, so please do not hesitate to let me know how to do better, especially if it saves Captain-types work.

Yes
As long as another teammate hasn’t taken the slot

@ALL, please try to list at least one other option…more if you can…and go for the tougher tasks first if possible ie less common color covers…use your judgement

No worries
The best help is to be complete with your selections and backups…try to spend some time if you can going for the ‘tougher’ choices 1st

message 81: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Lory wrote: "Which ones are traditionally "tougher"?"

hmmm...probably more than one opinion on this...here's my thoughts

Spellout (Crayola Towers) - I, O, U, N - there's only 2Ys, 1Z
Rainbow...some of the colors can be, but I think we have teamies all over that one
Mods...These mods have shorter lists-Jex, Rachel, Laura (2nd), Aiswrya
Winners...I think these should be pretty easy, but I would start there only because there are some obvious books that would be no brainers for those...at least list these for back ups.

Tammie | 4553 comments One more day! Which book are you all most excited to start with...

Kings of the Wyld (The Band, #1) by Nicholas Eames No one on our team drew DQs for the 1st BOM...that starts Tuesday, so I'll likely start reading for that. I do try to stay with the group vs reading ahead if I can. Sometimes, that's easier said.

❦Dawn❦ (sunnyd1) | 24 comments Hi Team Ti:
My name is Dawn and I live in Michigan, USA
This is my first time doing a tower challenge so if I’m doing something wrong or you have any tip’s please help me out however you can. Also feel free to friend me. I’m always looking for recommendations and inspiration.

My favorite genre seems to change with every book I read. I can’t start a series without finishing them all no matter how bad they are. At this moment I’ve been reading a lot of romance and thriller novels.
The most recent book I’ve read that has made an impact in my life is “Educated”. The first book I remember having an impact on me was “Love 101” by Leo Buscaglia.
The book I can’t stand when I read it was The Great Gatsby”. I’ve never met anyone who agrees with me on this.
I really like books that I can really like the characters or at least the main character. I’m also a sucker for Disney Endings, Happily Ever After and all that. I’m excited about doing this challenge and getting to know you.

message 84: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments It's almost time! I'm over here scrambling to finish a bunch of stuff for Uno so we can get as many points as possible, so I have no idea what books I'll still have left to read after Uno ends.

I'm on a team in Game Night's Turf Wars. So until that ends, about half of my reading is based on whatever list/lists are for the current round. So I'll be starting off the month with a bunch of horse books, most of them non-fiction, but at least a few of them will be Black Stallion books that I don't get to before the start of TT.

message 85: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I had a look at most of the mods books and compared them to what I have on my TBR list and they all have a couple of books I want to read on there so I can definitely help cross some of those off.

I will probably also be starting with Kings of the Wyld. But I might spend the first day finding a book that I enjoy at the very beginning as I have a loooong wait at an airport on Tuesday so I need something to keep me occupied.

message 91: by Elen (new)

Elen | 1273 comments I can't remember in which group/challenge it was, where a tome that was published serially, then published in its entirety (classics) can't be used as a whole book.

Example: War and Peace - Serialised 1865–1867; book 1869
The Good Soldier Švejk - written in 4 volumes, but is considered as one book

Q: So, Can I read those books as one or not?

Elen please share your specific situation and we captains can better answer your question. War and Peace, while written as you've suggested (I didn't look it up), probably has at least 500 editions...I'm sure it would be considered a single book, but any book listed on GRs as an individual book when part of a 'boxed set', should be counted as the individual books in the 'boxed set'.

Let's avoid an issue though...share your book and we'll sort it out together.

message 93: by Elen (last edited Apr 30, 2023 09:59AM) (new)

Elen | 1273 comments Examples were the book I want to read.

They are not "boxed set" or anything, just in the past when publishing books was harder and more expensive. Books were written and submitted to "papers" in parts/volumes, but now they are considered and translated as a single book.

Похождения бравого солдата Швейка - (The Fateful Adventures of the Good Soldier Švejk During the World War #1-4) - in Estonian or Russian (the book I own) has been always translated as one single book.

Can I use my edition (800 pages) or I just won't read it if this book brings up too many Q.

ETA: Tammie, no need to ask. I just will go with what GR shows and not read it. Less confusion the better.

message 94: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Elan, I think your scenario is from a different group. I’ve never seen NBRC have a problem with a book that was originally serialized. You’re good for War and Peace.

In the past it has just been books that you have completed. It is a way for the mods to double-check everything and stay organized.

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments Thank you!

One Sentence Audio Critic | 214 comments Thanks to trouble sleeping...I have got the Team started with its first completed book for TOWER.

If the Captains could check my spreadsheet entry to make sure I did it correctly, it will save you work in the long run. 📚
