Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

Looks like someone has taken care Meghna! Hope you liked the book!

I've read both of these books already. Can I still answer DQ questions or do I need to reread it.

Unless you read them during the challenge you’d have to reread….6 mo rule for rereads too…I hate when that happens :(

Sweet! I own both of these books! 11/22/63 I have read but it was several years ago and it was a 4 (?) star read for me! I'm awful at writing up questions though so I won't be volunteering to do that but I will answer them and likely participate in the reads.

Back ups are good because they give us more chances. I’ll definitely write for you on 11/22/63 if you are chosen…not sure I’ll get City/Brass in time. I’ll sign up for it though…if I get DQs on that one, I’ll likely need someone to do the DQs if I’m chosen.

My next book will be Grounded by Aisha Saeed.
Thanks

Restore Me (Shatter Me, #4) by Tahereh Mafi

I'm nearly finished...it's pretty much the same pace throughout. The plot thickens slightly.

I got some reading done on my travel home. My boyfriend then got sick the night I left and they sent him to hopsital yesterday. He should be fine, but of course I was worried and as I am now so far away from him I feel helpless. My mind was too distracted to read much yesterday and actually take in what I was reading.
I have a couple of days off after tonight, so I intend to finally finish Kings of the Wyld and start The Daughter of Doctor Moreau.

It's going to be interesting...it goes through the end of the challenge and appears to be a 'speed challenge' of sorts. We get more tasks as we finish others.

Don't Feed The Chipmunks
This is an optional mini challenge running until the end of the challenge.
If we have told you once, we've told you a million times! One of the key rules of NBRC is not to feed the chipmunks... You never know what they will create out of the ideas that you throw their way.
On your official SS is a new sheet which has 10 tasks showing for you to work on. You can work on these 10 tasks in any order you want. As you complete each one, a new task will appear at the bottom of your list to replace the finished task. A new task will only appear once you have finished any one of your 10 tasks. There will only ever be 10 tasks for you to work on.
You may use any of your free choice books for these tasks, but not those from the page number specific towers. The book must have been started after TT started and finished after June 1st , 9am UTC. Once a book has been allocated to a task, you can't swap it out later. You can use a book that you were planning to use in a page number tower and change it to free choice.

...give some thoughts on strategy for this one...your captains will be thinking too :)"
Use (only) shorter reads for this mini as 500+ pages are being read less than 300 or fewer pages.

Just in case anyone notices that some previously filled mini spots are open:
In order to maximize our points, we want to make sure that all books have a spot in a mini challenge. And there is no limit to how many Rainbows we can make. So over the next few days/week, someone (probably Tammie) will be moving books that fit into a Rainbow spot into new Rainbows. So do go ahead and check all the minis for a spot for your book!

X Books - Read a book where the title starts with X
Film 10s - Ten Little Indians - Read a book that shares a title word (singular indian is OK)

X-Men - Read a book with a character who has a mobility impairment (e.g. in a wheelchair, has a prosthesis, has arthritis)
Film 10s - Ten North Frederick - Read a book that shares a title word

Paradise Valley (Virgin River #7) fits the category of persons with disabilities as vets with amputations adjust, but I have already read it during this challenge, so someone else can use it (I think).

I've also got a couple of books with Ten in the title. Which is good because it seems like we might get a few more of those!

Don't Feed The Chipmunks Update
Your captains have had a look at the rules for this one...some important things to note and a few guidelines we'd like everyone to follow...we may change these as needed...Please read this
1. The TAB for DONT FEED THE CHIPMUNKS has been locked. This tab will automatically fill. The only thing we need to do to claim a book for this section is to put the Mini Ref # in the box on the main 'book' tab for the task it works for. Once you have completed the task, a new task will pop up.
2. Please put a message in this thread, once you have finished your task so the rest of the team knows a new task is available. We should all get in the habit of checking this tab to see if a book we're reading fits.
3. We still must complete our book minimums...and these tasks only work FREE CHOICE. So this is where this becomes tricky. For our first month, the longer books have been more difficult for us to complete...ie we're still working on the 500s. So, in an ideal world, we would continue to fill the mini tabs with these longer books. Having said this, we'll cruise along like we have not worrying too much about this.
4. The mini tabs are still in effect and Rainbow Rowers can go on indefinitely...we can continue to add sections there until the end of the challenge.
We are going to be moving several books around today, filling up Rainbow Towers with books already completed for other spots in the mini. This will free up other mini spots for us to put our book minimums in. We are doing well with a variety of colors. Yellow, pink and orange are likely the most challenging, but you can help us monitor what's needed by having a look at the RAINBOW tab. So longer books that are colors are always a great choice.
5. Books will work for CHIPMUNK that have been completed 6/1 and after. This includes any books that have already been read...meaning we can use books that have already been designated elsewhere...this is the second important reason why we all need to continuously check the CHIPMUNK tab.
ie task 21 pops up and it works for a book Darren read on 6/3. We can quickly move that book in to this spot and get another task :)
6. We have decided to limit us to 1 claimed task for the CHIPMUNK tasks only. This will help us keep things moving along.
Note: We appreciate your patience as we may need to move things around. This includes moving claims under CHIPMUNKS that may need to be moved to get us to the next book.
We can start reading for these 1st 10 CHIPMUNK tasks...so if you have a book that fits, feel free to claim...just don't finish until June 1-Countdown-> https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
Questions...please ask here in this thread

If we are going to be short on yellows

The mini's are all now locked to help us avoid problems...the SS is getting huge...so this is a big help!
Please do a double check now and then to be sure all is well with your posts.

Should we just enter the mini code on the Books page and wait for help?
Benita

When I added the extra fields I failed to copy over the formula...now fixed
Benita, the version of the book you posted is not white...its brown.
A reminder the link you claim/read need to be the book version you are reading.

3...author initials in 'Solve for X'...found Remarkably Bright Creatures works, but my library wait is 6 weeks...so an idea if anyone has it to read around 6/1

I traditionally use audio AND ebook, or Audio &ebook&paper
The link I am trying to get to stick to that row is:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
It tests at 66.03 % white using
http://mkweb.bcgsc.ca/color-summarize...
I am usually using multiple versions of the books I post, because of the needs of a different challenge
I have been avoiding the color covers page because on Andoid Samsung OS, if you get the edition web address using the share GR link, you get the default edition web address, in most cases, no matter what edition you are viewing

it's now fixed...thanks to whoever...to get the URL for the page you are reading...bring up that version...then copy the URL on the screen it's on and paste that URL.
I know this can be frustrating...we'll continue to check closely.
There are a couple other books that I need you to tell me the correct version for:
In her shoes...you have -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... this version linked...not sure this meets any color criteria
Wondering if it's supposed to be -> this version instead?
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
---
For Springwater Wedding...you have -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9... this version linked...it's purple vs pink...there is no 'pink' version that I see.
Let me know
Thanks

In Her Shoes, is messed up, but that book entry pre-dates the great SS shuffle. We can move it to Crayola tower for E fir character Ella Hirsch. I have entered the new code
Springwater Wedding
Springwater Wedding
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...

Tests as 65.07 "lavendar PINK" using
http://mkweb.bcgsc.ca/color-summarizer/?

In Her Shoes has already been put on the main...so I'll mark it to update there too.
Reminder to do like you did here to note any changes once it's been marked as entered with the check marks.
Re Springwater Wedding
OK...we go by visual mainly...I'll check with captains, but I think that's a lavender cover. Kylie or I'll make any changes on this one as it's been entered as well.

Springwater Wedding wil also fit in five or six different rows in Crayola Towers based on
T S AN LLM, NN PW, MCs EK SW, Series Springwater
I found some "yellow " covers, or at least they tested 50% + for some version of yellow using
http://mkweb.bcgsc.ca/color-summarize...
I put them on my list, but let me know if any aren't going to qualify as yellow. My only reason for doinf them is to get yellow covers for the team.

We're glad to check any book cover for those who are reading specifically for colors anytime you have a borderline question.
*Revising...didnt' notice you had more than 2.
50 Ways to Ruin a Rake is more tan to me...others can weigh in on this if different...we might be able to put this under brown...see comment on shades...but I don't think it's yellow
Pursuing Miss Hall...not yellow or any color enough
A Love by Design...not sure what color this is...possible shade of orange or brown??
Three to Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum #3) by Janet Evanovich...OK for yellow
Full House by Janet Evanovich, Steffie Hall...OK for yellow
I have an inquiry out to the MODS on using different shades...Elen's Q above. So it's possible A Love By design could work elsewhere.
I'd suggest using visual...as color generators are not all that reliable. You could start with a generator if you aren't sure, but the cover needs to look like the color...at least 50%...most important

If we are going to be short o..."
The answer from the mods is that we can use any color from the drop down box in the rainbow. So a rainbow could include teal, bright blue, and dark blue!

3...author initials in 'Solve for X'...found Remarkably Bright Creatures works, but my library wait is 6 weeks...so an idea if anyone has it to read around 6/1"
Looks like I've got a couple already checked out in KU that work for that task. If no one else grabs that task, I'll plan to get to it in the first few days.
I've already claimed the mobility task, but that one should only take me a few hours. Then I can do this one after.

I retyped RT91 and now it's there. Possibly you hit a space either before or after the numbers and that messed it up. Or possibly there's just a gremlin in the spreadsheet messing with us. :)

Springwater Wedding - Lavender, so light/bright purple
50 Ways to Ruin a Rake - looks yellow to me. But I'm notoriously easy on color cover tasks!
Persuing Miss Hall - I don't think there's enough of any one color to use for Rainbow
A Love By Design - I think I would actually call that a light Orange. Which is why we don't use the online color extractors. Tineye called this one Pink!
Three To Get Deadly - Looks good for Yellow
Full House - Also looks good for Yellow

Rainbow Towers Update
So the mods are defining '10 different colors' to include 'shades as well...this is a good thing...there are 20 different possible drop downs...so as long as it's one of these colors we're ok...no repeating though...
So we can have a light blue and a dark blue.
Bright yellow and Dark Yellow, etc.
In lieu of black, we could put a grey book in there instead.
🌈Must be the predominate color and at least 50%
🌈We're going by visual!!!
🌈If you aren't sure, post here and we'll decide as a team
We've locked the mini sheets up as we were having problems with formulas being erased...
You can still monitor those sheets...just put a quick message here if we need to modify anything.
@Elen you had a specific question earlier that this answer back applies to...so you are good to move forward using that book for a color as long as we don't already have it claimed.
Questions, please do ask 🌈

I think this was my 4th book for the month as i had signed in for 4."
