Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Date Finished: 4/18/15
Rating:★★★★☆

And she does it again! Yes, I cried. Not big hiccuping sobs because I've become a pro at holding it in- but tears silently running down my face. And the part that got to me the hardest was not even the big reveal! Don't get me wrong, I had tears for that too. The one that really got me? (view spoiler)

In Ugly Love, Tate and Miles have an undeniable attraction. But Miles will only allow them to have a sexual relationship. They just have to follow the rules.

His rules
1. Never ask about the past.
2. Don’t expect a future.

Her rules
1. Don't give her hope for a future.

As things go with this kind of relationship, the rules get broken and hearts get shattered. I know a lot of people didn't like the characters or the way things played out but this is why CoHo is such a phenomenal writer. She makes you feel everything- the good, the bad and everything between. Every book that I've read of hers feels real. I may not have personal experience with the events but I feel like I do when I'm finished reading. She makes it personal, like I'm the one going through it. I just love her.

This is a really emotional book and I loved it. I couldn't quite give it 5 stars because the setup slightly strains credulity but the story is just great. The premise is sad, we start with Theo who lost his partner a year ago and is just returning to the world. There are lots of flashbacks to the prior relationship and it helps to ground the book. In romance novels you always read the fantasy and not the day to day struggles but those are presented here and add dimension to all of the relationships. Morgan's story is slightly over done but these two coming together just works perfectly.

I just love Heather graham writing. This is a new series for me and I fell in love Cafferty and Quinn. I love that she puts very sweet moments between the couple. Then the the paranormal comes in full force. I also love the story with the musicians and the " killer instrument" A great read. Definitely will read more of this series.

The Unforgivable Fix (Mort Grant #3) by T.E. Woods

This is book three of the Mort Grant series and if you haven't read the others you must read them first. Mort is a Seatle Policeman and he knows who The Fixer (a female assassin) is but he has chose to keep it secret because she saved his life..back in another book.

She is also a psychologist and in this book she goes back to being a psychologist and is supervising a new guy. Mort's daughter is in trouble and calls on her to help protect her from drug lords.

So there are several different stories running in this novel just like the other books so it always starts off a bit slow and then picks up about half way and then boom the big reveal. I sort of had this one figured out but there was still some things that really surprised me in the end.

If you a fan of crime novels then you might find this series appealing. I have had a lot of fun with it and this one sort of left me hanging at the end a bit so now I really need to dig into book #4!

I like this series because it's about a female assassin who even though she is bad she does it for good reasons and even though she is trying to put her skills at rest she always seems to have to use them. Though in this one she was more psychologist than assassin. :)

So we need to get into the 40's quick so I can read it...lol. :)

I feel like I kicked a puppy for not loving this one. Like I've done something wrong here and maybe I have. I was reading Dirty Red at the same time and it may have spewed it's negativity all over me. Gross.

At any rate, I did enjoy it just not at the same level with the others. I think they main problem was that Ben and Lizzy were just a tad boring. In every book the characters have such a strong presence, except for the quiet Ben and the little sister Lizzy. They're just kind of background music.

In Lick we have David who falls in love and marries a stranger. You meet Mal who makes you laugh and Jimmy who is a total jerk. Oh yeah, and Ben who is in the band but is mostly known for being the brother to Martha. Next we have Play, which is Mal's book, and he's so crazy and in your face you can never forget him. Lead gave us Jimmy. He's still a jerk but you see a different side to him. They're all so colorful and I just didn't get that with Ben and Lizzy.

I still liked the book. I still loved the writing. I'm a big fan of the gang. I'm going to read everything she writes. But I won't lie, I was more interested in Vaughan and I'm hoping he'll be part of the new series.

This book is told from Travis' POV, the other 3 were told from Charlie's. It's nice to get that change, although Travis talks so much in the other books that it wasn't hard to imagine what he was thinking. This is really just a nice wrap up of the series, there isn't that much that happens and not that much that happens between Travis and Charlie. They do visit Texas, which I was waiting for, but it's not that dramatic. Still the book had me smiling throughout.

Fixed in Blood (Mort Grant #4) by T. E. Woods
Read 4/28/2015
Rating: 4 stars

Fixed in Blood is probably my favorite out of this series. In the last book Mort sees a side of his daughter he doesn't want to see. She is the mistress for a drug king and in danger.

In this one we get to see Mort's daughter step into a little more of a violent roll and I feel so sorry for Mort as he is a Seattle Detective.

Mort was mad at The Fixer, Lydia for letting his daughter go with the Russian but there was not much she could do. He is working through things and two murdered girls leads him back into Lydia's path as one of the patients she is helping has gone missing after calling her in distress.

Lydia has a lot of ways to find things out that are not exactly legal and Mort looks over things a bit so he can get information from her to try and find the killer.

The Fixer comes out in Lydia a bit more in this one than in the last one which I like.

I love how the author makes you think it's one person and it ends up being another every time. :) Great crime novel!

I really enjoyed this book. The world is really interesting and it got pretty intense in parts. My biggest problem, and the reason I didn't rate it a full 4 stars, is that there were parts that really, really dragged. I was hoping for non-stop action and intrigue with some great world building and I got stop and go action and intrigue with some great world building.

I absolutely loved Liam. He and Zu were my favorite characters. I liked Chubs, but he kind of annoyed me at times. Ruby was interesting, but she really made me mad at times and I wasn't always sure I liked her. I definitely plan on reading the rest of the series. After the way this one ended, I really, really need to know what happens.

Holy moly this book was steamy. I mean, I know what I’m going to be getting when I read a Tessa Bailey book. I know it’s going to be hot and sexy and difficult to put down. This was all that and more. I immediately liked Julie. She was a little uptight, but I knew she just needed someone to really see her. Reed…get out of here with this guy. He is freaking unbelievably sexy and demanding and that dirty talk…holy crow.

Even if you took out the fact that this book was all sorts of hot and the ridiculous chemistry between Reed and Julie, I would have thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love watching people fight their attraction to someone else and I love watching two people try to move past their pasts and the crap that’s been dealt to them. I really love the premise of this series. Having different authors tackle the different characters was pretty awesome. So far, I’ve loved every second of every book in this series, I can’t wait to finish it.

This was actually the first book of the series that I've read, I subsequently went back and read book one. I wasn't particularly lost starting with book 5 because these aren't deep books. It was amusing but totally manic and ridiculous. It also clearly ends with a cliffhanger about Stephanie's relationship so that's probably how they get people to keep reading. The mystery wasn't too hard to figure out.

In my eyes, this author duo can do no wrong. Seriously, I love everything they write. They have mastered the art of sarcasm, humor, kick assery, action scenes, sizzling sexual tension and chemistry. Love, love, praise, praise-you get the idea.

"In 1863, in a world much like our own, European scientists discovered the Osiris serum, a concoction which brought out one’s magic talents. These talents were many and varied."

People were then ranked according to their magical abilities- Minor, Average, Notable, Significant and Prime. Magical families started to form Houses and create dynasties.

Nevada Baylor is coerced into bringing Adam Pierce, a Prime, back to his family. It's basically a suicide mission because her magical abilities are no match for him. Meanwhile, he is destroying Houston. Luckily, Nevada is smart, resourceful and cautious and she uses every advantage she gets.

Enter Mad Rogan, Prime, arrogant, sexy Alpha male. The two of them have a rocky start but team up to get Adam back. Sparks fly, sarcasm flows, buildings get destroyed and the sexual tension rises to a fever pitch. Freaking awesome!

I loved all the characters, good and bad. Every person brought their own unique flavor to the story and it melded together perfectly. But Rogan, well he was something else. He had no filter, Alpha to the core, and was very powerful. Oh, and he had some special 'ahem' powers too. Yummy!

I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series. There's definitely some unfinished business to attend to :)

I guess I am a bit particular about my romances and what happens in them. Some things just gross me out and well early on in this book that happened and just made it go down hill for me. After that I just couldn't get into it and the fact that it was just sort of boring didn't help.

I wanted to quit reading but kept going hoping it would redeem itself but it didn't. I am also thinking I am just not a huge fan of time traveling as Duncan is from present day Manhattan and he is a Scotsman who is reenacting a battle when he is swept into medieval Scotland and right in the middle of a scuffle with the red coats. He thinks it's all play at first till someone shoots at him and he realized those are not fake. I just never really liked Duncan. :(

Abby is trying her best to keep her clan together and be the chieftess but there are some that don't think a woman can lead. She must train Duncan to be her strong man if she can keep from falling for him.

It might be great for some but it just didn't work for me. :(

It makes me sad when I just can't get into a book by an author I really like, especially when I've enjoyed other books by her. I'm hoping that this was just a one off and maybe I wasn't in the mood for it. There are two more books in the series, so I'll get to those eventually, especially since those are books I got for review forever ago.

I really could not connect with Jennifer/Gwynn. The tone of the book reminded me of the Beauty series by Anne Rice, which I wasn't a huge fan of either. There were some moments in this book that I did enjoy. The intrigue of the bargains was interesting, but the rest was just weird. I didn't understand the "war" at all. Although, I really loved the part about The Thin Red Line and how boring of a movie it was. I 100% agree with that. I never even got through that movie cause it was so boring. That was almost the fate of this book, but I had to finish it for a challenge, so I couldn't quit.

I adore Jeffe Kennedy and will definitely read more by her, I just don't think I'll be running out to read the rest of this series just yet.

This book was an easy read, the prose is good. The MC Sam is intriguing and the heroine Maddie is dynamic. It was a different setting from the books I've been reading so that was good.
