PtP - Patronum Espresso (5)

2. Captain Grinder - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)
3. Name your team. Using this round's theme, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)
Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 14 September
4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)
5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!
* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.
You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.
I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.
Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.
6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.
7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.
8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.
9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)
10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.
The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

For selection post Option 1 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.
If the theme is based off the bookcover, post the cover. If there is a letter count in the title, publication date etc, please note these details.
For selection post Option 2 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.
For selection post Option 3 you must have:
Week #
PASS
For the completion post you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review
Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.
If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.
IF YOU NEED TO CORRECT A POST FOR MISSING INFORMATION or because the didn't qualify etc, please REPOST this information in a NEW post. I don't want to have to keep going backwards in the thread.

In terms of a team name, I am terrible at this stuff but some initial thoughts to get going on the coffee theme:
*Living La Vida Mocha
*Iced Chais Finish Last
*Espresso Patronum
*Beans, Billionaires, and Bad Boys
*Nerdy Beans

☕ Team Names🧉 in order of preference 🍵 great names @Jessica
🏆🥇*Espresso Patronum 🎉💝
🥈*Living La Vida Mocha 🎊
🥉*Nerdy Beans ✨
4️⃣*Beans, Billionaires, and Bad Boys
5️⃣*Iced Chais Finish Last

Sorry I'm late to the party but work has me tired these days but so liking the names.
I live in NY, I have 5 adult children and recently became a grandma/nana of a boy and a girl. I've always enjoyed reading and was always my go to until I return to work after losing my husband almost 3 yrs ago. So there may be times when I can get so much reading done and then other times where it takes me awhile but I love challenges and reading all genres of books. I've been a big fan of romantic suspense and tend to fall back on that.
@Jessica, you'll enjoy this challenge. Its a fun one and I've always enjoyed this because you will find that your tbr will grow even bigger on the new finds. LOL
@Benita, sorry for your loss and definitely know how you feel. I wasn't able to even get into reading for nearly a year and even when I did get back to reading I found it hard to even get into the story. So I ended up reading it a few times and then decided on something else. I think when my grandson was born it helped me get out of my head and started to enjoy life a little more. Just know that it will take time but one day you will find your new you.
@Van, wow Brazil and traveling! That's awesome but sorry for being a bit dumb at the moment but what is an expat? LOL Never heard the term.
I have to say I really like the name 'Livin La Vida Mocha'

My name is Shandrea, I am from southern Idaho (mountain standard time). I have done this challenge for awhile. Probably my favorite challenge.
My husband just came home from a year deployment in the middle east. We have 4 children: 12, 10, 8, & 6. I am up to my ears in children's sports right now. Coaching junior high volleyball and my two sons are playing football. All of that on top of running a little grocery store in my small town of 300 people.. it's been A LOT. But I'm sure I'll miss these days later.
What I don't seem read very much are MM, historical romance, or paranormal. But I'm working on reading more of those.
Team names: I am loving Espresso Patronum

It looks like two votes for Espresso Patronum and one for Livin La Vida Mocha. @Benita any thoughts? on either of these as possible team name? :) you might be the tipping vote!

Just PM me when you are sure :)

Lets snage it while we can, and before the first call tomorrow :)

I'm happy that I was able to be added to the team.
Oh, I'm in the central valley in California so I'm on PST. Married, 5 grown "kids," 22 grandchildren (3-29 years old), and 6 greats (8 months to 9 years) and we're pretty evenly distributed: 12 boys and 10 girls, and the greats are 3 boys and 3 girls. lol
Love historical fiction, sports romance, romance, and mystery/thriller/psychological thriller, and a good fantasy book. Not so much horror nor sci-fi.

Week 1
Task: Option 1 - Book with at least 2 authors
Title: The Method
Pages: no paged version. 3 hours. Min
Qualification: 2 authors, James Patterson AND Michael B. Silver
Co-author is not on GR, but IS on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B...
Dear Team...if you are an Audible member, there are several short "free to you" Audible Plus books, with excellent full cast productions by James Patterson and co-authors. But, with no page #'ed editions, I have asked for a ruling on eligibility.
I contacted Jane, our competition leader. Books must have page # to qualify in this challenge.

#4 - read a book written by two authors
Qualification needs to be shown on the main page with 2 authors listed (narrators don’t count) or through a list which shows authors that write under a single name.

Task: Option 1 - Book written by 2 authors

Thank you Van...yes I am TOTALLY copying you. ❤️📚

Week #: 1, Option 1, 2 authors
Bookcover/link: Girl in Luv 🎧
Rating (1-5): 4
Review: Girl in Luv while marketed as a full book, is really just the first half of the story which finishes in Boy in Luv. Contemporary romance, fake boyfriend trope. Rich college girl needs a wedding date for nuptials of evil step-sister and plans to embarass bride and mean step-mother by hiring a lower class, heavily tatooed date. Story finishes in book 2.

Expat is short for expatriate as in someone who lives outside their native country( My family is British).

📝Review ✍🏽 I was not expecting to enjoy it so much. I loved the main characters, and, the way it was written, I actually enjoyed reading about the bad ones too. The story is sweet, cute and quite addictive with a little spice near the end, but now I will have to spend money getting book 2 just because I need a proper closure and a hea.
She is very rich but down to earth and he comes from a rough background and is in the military. They have 1 week together, and despite it being a business transaction it becomes more. There is no cliff hanger but there is no closure either, so be prepared to want book 2.
The narration was really good, JF Harding was great, but Sofia’s narration was way too slow and a bit melancholy. I don't think Sofia’s voice or interpretation was quite right here.
Overall a great listen.

Review:
Yikes. This was not good. First of all, I am the first to say I am 100 percent okay with "insta love" but this entire book flew by in the span of what seemed like, I dunno days? The main FMC Maddy and her friend Katie are so immature it is painful to read. Not only do they talk trash to one another, Katie is really just background noise in the story of the couple, Maddy and Zane. My issue with MFC Maddy is she is hot and cold when it comes to Zane, but then again he also comes on WAYYYY too strong and asks himself, "what did I do wrong?" Well you literally pinned her against the wall at a club with a boner, soooo...maybe that is a bit much for just meeting someone at a bar?!
While this is a "college" setting book, it reads like high school freshmen at best in terms of character development. There is a mob twist in there that at least had some thrill to it but I definitely would not recommend. Which is a shame, because I have perused a Willow book on Kindle Vella and hear good things about Lauren Landish but together, this was like two high schoolers got together and wrote up a frenemies girl book with a hot bad boy thrown in the mix.

I enjoyed this one via both audiobook and on my kindle app. Dolly Parton narrated as one of the characters named Ruthanna, and it was just fun to hear her voice. It is about AnnieLee who is and up and coming star/singer, but is a nobody when something happens and she runs away from her hometown and goes to Nashville where she meets several people who help her get her start, including Ruthanna. But she also has a couple thugs who are after her but none of her friends know why since she hasn't told them the truth about who she is. I thought it was really good but the mystery aspect wasn't like James Patterson's other books so I missed more of a mystery to the story.

Review - I am not usually a big "paranormal" reader, I started this series and I cannot stop. This series and this writing duo have me in a chokehold. I've read that this book could've been the series ender and I somewhat agree with that but I also want more! Bring on the next book! :)

oh no that is terrible.
The answer to the question is No, this week is still part of week 1. I forgot the reason, I think it had something to do with thanksgiving. But we were told the 1st parcel was a 2 week affair instead of 1.
Hope you find your bag, good luck.

Jane (PS) | 22228 commentsDue to a miscalculation by me and the US Thanksgiving date 🦃 I will make week 1 a two week task.
This means that Thanksgiving will hit in our 2nd last week of the game, rather than the last week - meaning less stress for those who travel or are elbows-deep in dinner/guest preparations.
This allows us extra breathing space at this end to get our teams in order and checked in. If not every player is signed in by the start of the first task, it isn't the end of the world.

Oh sorry to hear that but as Van said we have a 2 week read for Week 1 so you have time. Hope they find your bag.
