Our word to spell out for the fifth round is: Saxophone
Our bonus cover colour is blue. (5x)
Additional Bonus
During Round 5, books written by or about musicians earn an additional 5 bonus points. This could be non-fiction about a musician or band; or it could be fiction - in which case the main character(s) should be a professional musician (or aspiring). Hello and welcome to Team HEAVY METAL !
I will be your captain for this particular round of the fabulous Wheel challenge :-)
If you have played Wheel before, you know the drill!
If you have NOT played Wheel before, please read the rules carefully. If you are unsure, read them again . For any further questions, feel free to ask us captains and we'll gladly clarify!
Now, is this the kind of music you enjoy listening to? Or do you prefer something else? Do not hesitate to start a music discussion! It is usually just as awesome as a book discussion hehe.
Your first task will be to link your challenge shelf, please!
Your second task will be finding books with lots of crazy musical instruments that will at the same time have a black cover and with for the spell-out is going to be fun - and that is just the first round! At least the word we have to spell-out isn't the most difficult there is ;-)
We have a while before the challenge starts, so you have lots of time to grab aaaall the books!
So without further ado: GO AND HAVE FUN! :-D

I am Melinda (or Mel) and will be your co-captain for Wheel 8 and very excited to read/listen to music with you all. 😊
I cannot say that I am a die-hard metal fan, I am more of a hard-rock-bordering-on-progressive/glam/trash-metal kinda girl when it comes to this particular musical spectrum.
But I am also a big fan of classical music (symphonic, operatic, what have you), rock and pop.
My shelf is: wheel-8
As for reading, while occasionally I am willing to try most genres (with the exception of Horror/Thriller), my go-to genres are the Classics, Fantasy, History, Historical Fiction, Women's Fiction and Golden-Age Detective Fiction with the occasional Sci-Fi thrown in.
If you like symphonic and aren't averse to metal, then I can really only highly recommend Apocalyptica!
They started off covering songs from Metallica and other heavy metal bands with only cellos before adding their metal element to classical pieces. In the meantime, they have a drummer as part of their band as well - and if they do vocals, they do collaborations with some of the best voices out in the rock and metal world :-)

"I've been too long, I'm glad to be back"
I even feel a little bit like Iron Man and everything!!!

Nice to see some familiar faces here :) And some new ones too!
Nice to meet you all.
I'm really excited about this challenge. I've been on a reading challenge break for a year, and I'm so happy to be back for a Wheel game. If I'm not mistaken it will be my 5th time participating.
I'm not really a fan of heavy metal either. To be honest I listen to all kind of music, except heavy metal 😅 Haha. Really my tastes are so eclectic I'm unable to describe it.
For reading, I read a bit of everything, but I'd say I read mostly Fantasy, Romance, Classics.
My shelf is : Challenge-Wheel8

It's so wrong not being on a challenge with you *pouts*
I shall visit lots!!!"
I totally understand why you couldn't join, Sonia. But I'm glad you'll take the time to join in the conversation from time to time :)

Glad you decided to rejoin reading challenges.
And lovely to have Sonia as a Spectator. :)

I'm Vi, I live in Netherlands. I've rejoined the land of reading challenges this year after a long hiatus. I've played Wheel-a-thon before the hiatus so maybe 7 years earlier. I've seen most of you around but this is the first time playing together except for Cris who was my TT teammate.
My music tastes are eclectic. I listen to any and all genre depending on my mood. And they change over time so what I liked madly 5 years before isn't to my liking now (which I discovered today). Reading wise, I read mostly Romance, Fantasy trying to branch to Mystery/Thriller. Though I do have to get back to regular high fantasy with high page number - which I don't due to my time constraints.
My shelf is wheel-a-thon

I can still be visiting, even if Sammy claimed me as a country mascot, right?
I do have a soft spot for metal :D
Hey Stacie!
Hey Vi!
I went to the Netherlands on vacation a couple of weeks ago. No need to say that I had a blast, and Tony's white chocolate with raspberry and popping sugar is now a favorite of mine.
LOL

I'm Cris and I've just discovered challenges in the past year or so. Two rounds of TT, and this year I've also done Uno and currently in Turf Wars. This will be my first Wheel.
Hello to Vi and other former teammates... look forward to hanging out here with all of you!
I'm in the Midwestern US (Iowa) and have lived here all my life. Metal wouldn't have been my first choice as a favorite musical genre, but I did grow up in the 80's and 90's so definitely some affection for old school Metallica and the like!

I am Kira and I am from India. This is my first time playing wheels and I am quite excited! I am not much of a chatty person though so won't probably be here much but I will check in frequently. I read a lot and am able to alter my reading plans as per challenges so it would be fun!!
Stacie wrote: "I'll do a real intro and post my shelf later when I'm not on a train!"
Helloooo!
And no rush, plenty of time before we start! :-)
Helloooo!
And no rush, plenty of time before we start! :-)

I've still got TurfWars going on too, so trying to plan ahead with my reading a little!!
Also, just to clarify... a book can be used on just one of the bonus point categories, correct? Like it doesn't have to both be the color and have a bonus word, just one or the other? Can it be counted for both if applicable?? :)

A book may be used for only one or both of the bonus categories (cover colour and/or word in text), but it may be used only for the spell-out. We have a limit on the bonus points: we can get max 25 points for covers, so we need 5 books for that, and we can use max 10 books for the word-in-text option. Depending on how much books we read/round, the rest will be used for the spell-out only.
Hope this makes sense.
And to add to what Mel said: only captains have access to edit the spreadsheet and we will not be using a planning/tracking sheet.
Any and all books you read are reported in this thread.
If you're a planner, feel free and mention what you're planning on reading and what they might potentially work for - spell-out, cover colour and/or word in text - and we'll start pencilling stuff into the spreadsheet to see where we're at.

Same!! It needs to be at least an urban fantasy every now and then between everything else or I'm not happy. And I do love a big doorstep fantasy book but they are tough to fit in at times because they take a certain amount of time to read.

I'm not on the team but played with several of you this year - so just popping by - so excited about the music theme! I'm on Team Country with Sammy (Sonia is our mascot :))!
Apocalyptica absotuely rock - Metallica by four cellos - absolutely brilliant!!
Have a great time everyone :)

Hi! I'm Stacie! I live in Maryland, East Coast of the US with my husband and our four cats. I work for the federal government so I'm about to be out of work for an undetermined amount of time while Congress figures out how to function.
I've been doing challenges around these parts for over 10 years now and have been friends with some people only on GR for that long as well. I read mostly fantasy and romance.
As for music, I was just at a concert last night! I love live music and this is my first year back at shows since 2019 and I'm so happy. I listen to a lot of indie music/alternative or as my friends call it whiny white boys, though I do listen to more women than I used to.
Looking forward to playing with all of you!

I'm located in Atlanta, Ga and I'm a theatrical stage manager. I'm just going into rehearsal, but it's a short contract with lots of reading time. Otherwise, I'm a night owl/insomniac. I keep vampire hours so I'm mostly online overnight.
I'm really excited to be back for this challenge. I love heavy metal but I don't listen to it that much. My vibe is more Black Sabbath metal and not so much newer stuff.

Hi Elinor,
Thank you for dropping by. 😘
Sonia is your team Mascot, but she is definitely our Special Guest Singer. 😉

In message 5 you can check out the upcoming BOM(s) and you can also find the link to vote for the November BOMs.
For the October 16 BOM you can still volunteer for DQs. If you do, you know the drill, please mention the Team name. :)
This is for info, not for pressure. If the chosen book is not your cuppa, we totally get it. 😊
