Theresa | 15559 comments One of my favorite events each year on January 1, particularly once the last copyright protection extension (designed to keep Disney in control of Mickey Mouse) expired. This applies to all written works, musical recordings and film/television.

This year everything copyrighted in 1923 becomes fully accessible in the public domaine - and thus more available to find and enjoy.

This article highlights some of the best books and music.

Lady Chatterly's Lover, Orlando and, since the Harlem Renaissance was at its peak, recordings like Yes We Got No Bananas.

Oh, everything from 1923, but books from 1928--happy day! Oh, The Threepenny Opera is public domain now--I wonder if there will be a renewed interest in performing it again. (I was an ardent thespian and in an audition based program as a teen but opted to not pursue it as a career although many of the others in my group went on to careers on and off stage).

The Met has a really great production but don't perform it often. And the defunct NYCOpera had one that would appear with some frequency. Broadway did a production not too terribly long ago ....

I do like that one!
