Hunger Game Buddy Reads
Informal buddy reads will be held for the original trilogy of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. One informal buddy read for each month of the challenge.
Informal buddy reads means there will not be formal discussion questions as with our groups BOMs.
However, in order to earn the 20 points for participation, players need to post at least 3 posts that provide a reasonable contribution to the discussion of the book. You do not need to provide a school worthy book report, but the posts need to be more than "Katniss is awesome" or "I love this book" to count for participation points.
The Buddy Reads for each book will run as follows:

🏹🏹 Welcome District 5 teammates to Book Games!!! 🏹🏹
I'm so excited to share this reading adventure with all of you! Whether you're a veteran NBRC participant or new to this group, we'll all be facing a learning curve this time around. Snezana, Prinzess, and I are all here for any questions or clarifications needed throughout the challenge.
A couple of requests to make this challenge more enjoyable for everyone...
🏹 Take a moment to read through the challenge rules. It's zero fun to read a book only to realize that it can't be used.
🏹 Mark this thread to receive notifications to keep up with what's going on in the team.
🏹 If you’re not talkative, that’s ok, but please check in once a week so that we know you are playing, even if you haven't read anything! If you are chatty, it’s welcome, feel free to tell us anything, and everything! We'll all enjoy the challenge more if you do (and we'll likely need everyone to survive whatever the mods have cooked up this time😉)
🏹 If you don't understand something, please ask (as many different questions as you need). Remember this challenge is new to everyone, so we'll figure it out together.
Let's start with introductions. If you're like me and can never figure out what to write, here's a few suggestions to get you started.
🏹 A bit about yourself
🏹 What Team Challenges have you participated in?
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites?
🏹 What book have you enjoyed most so far this year?
🏹 What book are you most looking forward to reading this summer?
🏹 Since District 5’s industry is power, what superpower have you always wished to have?
🏹 Please post a link to your challenge shelf.

Challenge wise, I've been around for several editions of tower teams and wheel here on NBRC, as well as Uno, Bingo, and Turf Wars with some other groups.
I think I read the first Hunger Games book several years ago. I've watched the first movie and parts of the second and third with my younger daughter when she went through her Hunger Games phase. I honestly don't remember a lot.
This year I've been doing a lot of rereads. Most enjoyed new book.... OK I'm going to cheat here and go with Lindsey Buroker's Death Before Dragons series, which I actually started last year reading the first three books over several months, but then I zipped through the remaining books the first couple months of this year.
I'm most looking forward to the newest Mercy Thompson book Winter Lost and am currently rereading the series in anticipation.
For a superpower, I'm torn. I think flying would be awesome, but the more practical (and lazy) side of me believes that telekinesis is the way to go.

Nice to meet you all and looking forward to helping Deanna co captain!
Hi all 👋🏽may contain triggers... (view spoiler)

It's nice to meet everyone. I'm from North Carolina. I work remotely for a telehealth company as a recruiter and the summer months are always a bit slow. I read a bit of everything but my go to reads are "smut" or as I like to think of it "brain candy". I read a lot of alien romance, erotica, historical romance, and m/m, m/f, f/f, m/m/f... romance/erotica. PrinzessBookDragon I sent you a friend request. I'm always looking for new authors to read! I also read fantasy, science fiction, and some nonfiction.
I've participated in Tower Teams, Wheel, My Restaurant Rocks, and Uno. I know that I've been on challenges with a few team members before. I think I even co-Captained with Deanna for Uno quite a few years ago.
I've read the Hunger Games Books but it was a while ago. I didn't care for how they felt repetitive after the first book. I did watch the movies and really enjoyed them. I have not watched or read the most recent book - which I can't remember the name of Snakes and something - and don't intend to read it as it seemed a little like a way to make more money.
Books I've enjoyed most this year have been The Tainted Cup (fantasy/mystery), Nettle & Bone (fantasy/fairytale), Blood Over Bright Haven (dark fantasy), Bad Guy (alien smut), and Tress of the Emerald Sea (light fantasy).
I'm most looking forward to reading Eskau: An Unplanned Infiltration, Progression Fantasy (950 page fantasy and it is a bit addictive), Bound to the Shadow Prince (Ruby Dixon - Romance/Erotica), Unleashing Chaos (Romance), and Worse Guy (alien romance).
As for a superpower I think teleporting. I have family that lives abroad, and the 24 hours of travel to visit is not my favorite. Also, I love traveling but not so much airplanes or long drives.
I'm really looking forward to playing this new challenge with the team.

🏹 A bit about yourself: I'm from Delaware and I work at the local library. My favorite genres are mystery/thriller, historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, and nonfiction.
🏹 What Team Challenges have you participated in? I've participated in the Tower Teams challenge last year.
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites? I've read the books and watched the movies years ago. They were all okay but I don't have a particular favorite.
🏹 What book have you enjoyed most so far this year? So far my favorite book has been The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.
🏹 What book are you most looking forward to reading this summer? I tend to be a mood reader but one of the books on my holds list that I'm excited about is The Cemetery of Untold Stories.
🏹 Since District 5’s industry is power, what superpower have you always wished to have? I'd like to be able to teleport to where I need to be lol.

I read most genres, and love to mix it up. Mostly listen to audiobooks, mainly because I can’t bring myself to sit still long enough to read a book. Drives my husband nuts sometimes 😂
I don't want to jinx it, but I’ve been really lucky with my book choices lately. Most have been 4+ stars and I’m so stingy with those lol. Latest amazing read was Archangel's Lineage, which I thought was the best book in the series thus far. I’m currently reading In the Pines. So far so good, but this author has very good reviews. So I, excited to see how this turns out!
I’ve participated in numerous challenges across several groups on Goodreads. I love reading challenges! Just finished Uno, I’m also playing PTP on RRRC.
My shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I’m from Canberra, Australia where I live with my partner and our 7-year old son. I work for the federal government in contracting & procurement and spend my spare time watching all things Premier League football, watching/listening to true crime docos/podcasts and of course reading.
Up until last month I had been in a bit of a reading slump but have managed to dig myself out of that in April and am reading lots again. I like most genres, with fantasy probably my favourite at the moment. I do enjoy some romance but primarily historical romance and I’m not that good with cozy-type books - when someone says cozy mystery or cozy fantasy it generally doesn’t appeal. Besides that I am pretty open to everything.
I’m currently working my way through the Wax and Wayne books of the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson and have the lastest book in the series The Lost Metal ready to go for this challenge. I also have The Familiar and Bright Young Women top of the list for May as well.
I’m looking forward to the next few months of reading with you all 😀.

I've participated in TT, Wheels and UNO before. This year I took a break from UNO cause I was starting to feel a burnout from team challenges and now I'm very eager to get back into them. I can't wait to see all the surprises mods have in store for us over the next three months.
I read and reread the original trilogy but it was a while ago, so I don't remember the details as much. I only saw the first movie and I think it was okay. I didn't read the newest book, I heard mixed things about it and decided not to read it. At least for now.
So far this year I loved The Warm Hands of Ghosts, Gothikana and Soul of a Witch. And like Lavender I have The Familiar on my May tbr, it's one of my most anticipated reads of the year. I'm still unsure if I'll read it before or after the challenge starts.
As for superpower, I'll have to agree with Deanna and say telekinesis.
Almost forgot my shelf😅: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

My name is Jaimee and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. My favourite genres are fantasy, romantasy and scifi! I mostly read using my kindle but do have a lot of physical books too.
I'm new to the group so I haven't participated in any challenges here before but have done a few in other groups.
I've both read and watched the hunger games and I loved both! It is peak YA dystopian and has so many themes which are so important.
I've had a great reading year so far, with a average of 4.35 stars. Some favourites have been: When the Moon Hatched, A Crown of Oaths and Curses & the Firebird Chronicles.
My Shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I've read the books and I've seen The Hunger Games movies couple of times now; I think the first or the third book is my favorite, with the arena from the second movie easily being one of my top moments from the series.
I've had couple of great books to start off the year with, like Tress of the Emerald Sea, Circe, The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, Carrie Soto is Back, and others.
I'm looking forward to reading The Familiar, Funny Story, The West Passage, and Apprentice to the Villain. I'm sure more will pop up as time goes by ;D
I do love the idea of having telekinesis as a superpower, though I wouldn't be opposed to teleportation, either! Or any sort of elemental manipulation.
My shelf for the challenge: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

For the superpower that I want, I'm honestly torn between teleportation anywhere in the world or time manipulation. Bookoutlet and most indie nail polishes are in the US, and I'm sad about it. But then, 24 hours a day is not enough, and if I could stop time, I could read more books.
My shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

My name is Michelle and I am from right outside of New Orleans, LA. My favorite genres are mystery/thriller, suspense romance, some romance when I'm in the mood to read it and some erotica.
I have participated in some Facebook challenges and Goodreads challenges. On Facebook I participated in a challenge under the group Pretty Little Readers. On Goodreads I've participated in Bookopoly and a challenge under the group Turn of the Page.
I have not watched or read The Hunger Games.
My favorite book that I have read this year is
Mountain Man by Sherilee Gray.
The book that I am most looking forward to reading is Return to Wyldclife Heights by Carol Goodman.
The superpower I wish I had was to be able to teleport anywhere I wanted to go.

I participate in most NBRC reading challenges. Once upon a time, I was a team captain for the Cutthroat Book Club challenge - which is why I've never volunteered again.
I read the Hunger Games books back when they came out. I mourned Cinna more than any non-teenager should. And may have had a fanfic or two floating AO3.

Hi, I'm Cassy. I'm a married mother of 3 almost grown kids. I live in Florida. I'm a nurse and finally found a job I love where I fit in and have an amazing schedule. I'm a mood reader, but lean more towards romance. RomComs, Romantasy, Dark Romance, Retellings, and paranormal are favorites. I don't have many triggers if any. I am always joining reading challenges. Loved Hunger Games and was surprisingly happy with the movies. My favorite read so far was How Does It Feel? by Jeneane O'Reilly. I'm looking forward to continuing the Boys of Tommen series by Chloe Walsh. As far as superpower, I'm a nurse, I would LOVE to have the ability to Clone myself haha! Looking forward to this challenge.

For anyone interested in joining the NBRC monthly group reads, we get 20 extra points for each participant and 40 extra points if someone from our team writes discussion questions.

I've mainly participated in the Tower Teams challenges here, although I know I've missed some here and there. I absolutely love doing the challenges with bigger groups! It's fun finding new books to add to my ever-growing pile. I do have a soft spot for the Hunger Games because I feel like it was a big part of my young adult life and my love of reading growing up. It's been quite a while since I've read or watched anything Hunger Games related, although I did try to read the prequel and wasn't personally a fan.
It's so hard to pick just one favorite read for this year so far, but I really loved The Will of the Many, and although I read it really early this year, I'm still thinking about the plot and wishing I had the second book in my hands already. It's a slower-paced novel, but it really held my attention all the way through, and I loved the unique storyline. Annalisa, I saw that you mentioned The Tainted Cup and wanted to second that one as a favorite because it was SO good!
I'm REALLY looking forward to The Wishing Game being a BOM next month as that's on my list to get from my library ASAP. I've heard really good things about that one, so I'll be participating in that conversation for sure!
Lastly, if I could choose a superpower, I've always leaned towards wanting the ability to heal. I think it's a power that would definitely come with its own hardships, but I would love to be able to help others.

I'm Michelle from Georgia. I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 34 years and we've been together for 37. We have 3 grown sons and have been empty nesters for about 5 years. Pets include a Yorkie and 2 Siamese cats. I also just became a crazy chicken lady with 6 baby chicks that are growing like weeds. I work full-time in the public safety training sector, but in my previous life I was a middle school math & science teacher. Aside from reading, I love to travel and do all kinds of crafts.
I think I've played just about every team challenge there is and I've captained/co-captained a few of them.
I read all the Hunger Games books years ago and I've seen 1 or 2 of the movies. I may participate in the Buddy Reads...not sure yet.
I haven't really had a huge, standout favorite yet this year, but my TBR is long and promising.
I think I would like to have teleportation as a superpower. Who has time for traffic these days??
My shelf is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

June books I have a hold on at my library. Not sure I'll get either of them in time.

Amy, I've heard nothing but good reviews about The Will of the Many and now I'm even more tempted to read it. There was a recent buddy read for it in another book club but I couldn't get to it because the length of the novel wasn't something I was able to manage then. But if I can fit it in this challenge, that'd be great!
Time flies so quickly, only 4 days to go!

Annalisa, I see you already posted nomination for Kushiel's Dart, I read that few years ago and absolutely loved it! Great choice, I hope it wins!

I’ve selected categories to start, but can’t seem to remove the category from the drop down now.
