OUT OF LUX discussion

thank you rory I appreciate it!!
also full disclosure about the Faerûn thing, I copied and pasted it so please if you must take a brownie point away I understand
anyway new question! I'm getting the sense the tech in here is like, kind of modern? Is that accurate? Like are there firearms and such, or like, what era in history would you say everyone's tech is up to?
no you get the brownie points for being as mindful as you were to even do that <3 xDDD
asterath and voxthain fully use magic to power everything. they are not technologically advanced at all. whereas we use batteries and electricity for street lights, prosthetics, of the like, they use magic. in whatever form that takes.
faerûn is very technologically advanced. before the shadowfog, cities were very modern and futuristic. they can do quite a bit of what other countries and continents do with magic, but with technology powered by physical things such as elements and solar power. but because the shadowfog feeds off of magic, they cannot use their technology to fight it, but they can use technology to create contraptions to bottle magic in hopes that they can release it back home and save their continent.
so yes, firearms, phone-like things, screens, in a futuristic sense. not our annoying little box contraptions but cool monitors on their suits or arms, if that makes sense. voxthain and asterath do not have firearms in the way that faerûn would, but instead they'd wield magical spears made from magic around them, that type of thing.
think like steampunk/victorian vibes for voxthain and asterath (but maybe slightly more advanced bc magic) and future vibes for faerun. but like magic in the cities, so they didn't have that industrial revolution, need for metal advancement and use their magic for weaponry, foregoing manmade weapons entirely

Yes, though sparingly because it's intense magic. Anyone can use level five spells it's just very difficult no matter who you are.

So he would be able to use it more understandingly than the students ?

So I have more question not trying to be bothersome
feel free to ask away! i know we didn't give a lot of information, so questions help us to know what to add to the lore topics!

Is it fine if my teacher can dabble in a little bit of illusions? So he can make like scenery to show the science behind enchantments
Yeah, absolutely! As said, anyone can learn any magic and use any magic at all, it would just be unreasonable for them to know like four areas of magic at only twenty, if that makes sense. They take time to learn!

Ofc ofc alright thanks this helps a lot!
Can you elaborate? Every living creature on Lux is made of pure magic in general, if that's what you're asking?
No, you're okay! I just want to answer the best I can, and maybe that's my inability to read basic sentences XD

so I saw that if the shadowfog touches you, that body part shrivels and dies and such and can be replaced, but is that only if it gets amputated right away? say your arm or leg gets hit--do you live if you're able to amputate your arm or leg very soon and get a cybernetic limb replacement? and its only if you wait too late or get consumed fully then you die?
also also, how fast does the shadowfog move? like when it first appeared twenty years ago, did it start in a specific city on Faerûn? and move through it very fast?
(sorry for the questions, I'm trying to backstory my two wip characters lol)
You goofballs need to stop apologizing for asking questions, we are begging you guys to. xD Amputation the soonest moment after being touched is best because the shadowfog can spread and eat away at more of the character's skin. Leaving it too long can cause death even if before it wasn't fatal.
The shadowfog moves pretty slowly, as it is only eating away at the magic in the land. As said, Luxians carry more magic than you will find in objects or even plants, so the shadowfog hasn't gotten enough fuel to move quicker. It's almost fully taken over Faerûn and it's creeping at the edges of Voxthain now. When it first started, yes, it moved very quickly because Luxians were caught unawares and died, as they knew nothing about it, their magic sucked away and bodies withered before they knew what was happening. It slowed when it failed to catch more people and could only feed off the buildings and general magic on the land.
Reinhard wrote: "Can I have my teacher be affected by the shadow fog?"
Yep! But it is outside of Voxthain so there needs to be a reason why they'd be outside the city and near the fog.
Reinhard wrote: "One more thing is it possible if I make a list of some spells for enchantments?"
I mean, yeah, if you'd like!

Yep! But it is outside of Voxthain so there needs to be a reason why they'd be outside the city and near the fog."
Kk thanks

Description: This spell allows the caster to send a short message carried by the wind to a nearby person.
Effect: The message can be heard by anyone within a 50-foot radius.
Incantation: "Ventus sussurrare!"

speaking of the magic, question: can i have characters have magic abilities and powers that are not on the list?

whoops didn't answer the question. i think you're nailing it

thanks! okay so with that in mind, I want to run these by you:
1.) would darkness manipulation be okay, and would that be a part of which school of magic?
2.) for the ones where you change someone's emotions slightly, could I have a power where someone kinda, like, touches someone and instills them with a bit of courage?
3.) would earth manipulation be okay under the magic school where elements are controlled?
4.) same question but for vibration manipulation? and would that be under like, an element thing or some sort of energy thing? where the character would control, expel, manipulate vibrations in any biological object/person?

1. yes, i would consider that to be under illusion magic. depending on the amount of shadow manipulation, it would have different difficulty levels. i will add that this wouldn't be an ability to manipulate the shadowfog. that's its own beast
2. yeah, absolutely! that would be one star enchantment magic. enchantment can be used to help someone or for your own gain, it just depends on motive
3. yes, i believe we have defined rock-related elemental abilities under three star evocation magic
4. that is very interesting... if it's used in a controlling sound waves way, i would think illusion. if it's in a force blast way, it would be evocation. it depends on the use cases and intent. visual/audio is illusion, attack is evocation. how would manipulating the vibrations within a person work? depending on what you mean, the answer there changes

1.) oh yeah I already figured as much about the fog! And oh, illusion? That makes sense actually, thanks.
2.) okay!
3.) oh sorry I didn't see that. so like, earth and plants and rocks and soils and such would all be evocation?
4.) lol yeah I ripped it off a show I likesorry not sorry um, like, more like...everything has a natural vibration, so an ability to tap into that, make them move faster, slow them down (ie like in someones heart or bones or brains, giving them essentially like a heat attack or smthng) and blasting them from their own hands, so a more combat-like type of magic?
1. yeah, i would consider shadow magic to be manipulating the visual world. changing perception of light and shadow. if you wanted it to be more of like shadow creatures, that would be different. anything creature related is conjuration
3. yes, anything related to elements. unless you're turning one thing into something else (skin to stone vibes) which would be transmutation
4. okay yeah for sure. if you're manipulating the vibrations in someone's brain or body to move them to your will, that would be enchantment. i feel like this is just the more physics way of describing charming someone. blasting from hands would be evocation, and silencing the world would be illusion. i guess it works for a lot of things!side note this is a very fun thing to come up for me today. i had a lecture this morning on how vibrations play into spherical harmonics and power spectra stuff. we love waves

1.) that makes sense! I never thought of it like that, so thank you! hmm. It was mainly the shadow magic and not shadow creatures I had in mind, but hey, if its both, then she just...spans the two schools of magic idk
3.) great! no, it wouldn't be turning anything into anything else, just the basic earth manipulation and such!
4.) yay thanks! okay so school of enchantment and evocation then, esp with the earth stuff I asked about. I had never really thought of the sound wave part, so I'll leave that one be to make it more limited to two schools of magic and not three!yeah its actually very fascinating??

wait wait lemme guess vibrations from uhm agents of shield and for caledonia (alongside earth) and the courage for katarina?

you can absolutely have characters with skills spanning multiple schools of magic, especially when the abilities are related and the character isn't super young
it has been so long since i watched shield (stopped watching during the space/aliens arc) and i do Not remember any vibration stuff <\3
