Hi, so nice to be here thanks for inviting me!

Amy (amy_joy) | 17 comments Hello,

Thanks, Vincent, for setting up all these fantastic groups and forums so we can get to know each other a bit better. I want to let indie authors know that I've taken Vincent's idea, mashed it together with kindle boards and all kinds of other things that are out there, and created a site just for us: The Indie Writer's Network. My hope is that it will give indie writers a place to meet, become friends, and share what we learn about writing, publishing, and perhaps even a bit about life in general. The site is a fully-functional social network, with groups, discussion board, messaging, chats, networked bloggging, you name it. There'll also be weekly articles from indie writers on subjects related to writing and indie publishing, and you can submit your own articles via a link on the site.

My goal isn't to steal Vincent's audience here, but rather, to add to it and give indies a place all their own where we can get to know each other on a deeper level.

I hope to see you there: http://indiewritenet.com

Hi. I'm Nicola. I just published a book on poetry on Smashwords and thought it would be cool to be in an authors group.

D.j. Triplett (djtriplett) | 2 comments Thoughts of She

Hello! I'm Debra, and I'm a writer. I've had the opportunity to have many individual pieces published around the world, and have just had my new book published as of January, 2012!

I am 55 years old, live in No. California, and have 2 adult children. A little trivia about me; I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist!

I just added my book to the free giveaway section, and it should be approved in a day or two, so I hope you'll read my bio and book, and add me as a friend!

Thanks for the great welcome!

I just discovered Goodreads today & am happy to have found you.

message 416: by S.m. (new)

S.m. Rolfe | 4 comments Thank you so much Vincent for letting me join to experience both worlds. I find books to be the greatest gift anyone can truly find. I am also now a published author, Tragic Miracles by S.M. Rolfe. I truly love the differences people have on books that they have read. I love to know someone loves a book I treasure, and also love to know why someone might not agree and dislike that book. Books are out there to be interpeted differently. Thanks again....Happy Reading Everyone

Ken Jeanis (KenJeanis) | 10 comments Joe: The hardest thing for me to do was actually sit down and type the first word. Once I did...it all came surprisingly easy. I'm not saying I haven't made a TON of mistakes along the way...I have! But now I have a small series, a growing little fan base & a monthly income to boot. If you have any questions, please ask. We have all been where you are, no need to go it alone!

Ken Jeanis (KenJeanis) | 10 comments Hello Group!
I hope it is ok to post this...
Today I am trying my very first promotion on Amazon.com
Aevum Book 1 is free today, if you like sc fi tech speak, please grab it. Tomorrow it goes back to $2.99.
Thanks

Ken Jeanis (KenJeanis) | 10 comments I noticed all the different outlets listed on the book page (Indigo, Abebooks, iBookstore, etc...) I would love the groups feedback as to their success with these.
I had the Aevum books listed on Barnes & Noble and the sales ratio was like 200 sales on amazon for one B&N sale. Does anyone have any sales success outside of Amazon???

message 422: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you for creating the group.
I've just recently discovered Goodreads and so far I'm really enjoying it.
As an author and avid reader I greatly appreciate the opportunity a group like this provides.

Ken Jeanis (KenJeanis) | 10 comments Amazon Promotions:
1) kdp.amazon.com..go to your "bookshelf"
2)check the left hand box for one of your books,
3)"actions" drop down box...last option is "manage promotions"

if you are enrolled in the borrowing/ KDP select you are allowed to price your book for free for 5 days.

My thinking was to do it early (earlier) in the month, get noticed, move up on the list and hopefully people will pay the $2.99 for the rest of the series.

My results....300 downloads of Aevum book 1, got to number 15 in sci-fi adventure category.

message 424: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you mind if I ask if you promoted the fact that was free? Curious about using KDP select. I wondered if people promoted the fact that their book is free or if consumers just find it. Thanks.

message 425: by Karina (new)

Karina Kantas I think everyone promotes that their book is free. Hoping everyone will download it.

Ken. I have sales on Smashwords and Lulu. B&N is a non starter for me.

message 426: by Ken (new)

Ken Jeanis (KenJeanis) | 10 comments I am new at this, so my advice may not be all that great. With that said:

Paul - I simply activated the promotion to make free for 1 day. I can do this 5 times for each book. I don't believe there was any ad for it...it just showed up on the free list and started moving.

Karina & L.G. - yes it was free, but now I hope the 300+ that took it, will translate to sales for the rest of the series (Books 2, 3, & 4)

Lulu...thank you...I will check it out today.

Oh crap - with KDP select, I can't use any other sales channel until March.

this group rocks!
Ken

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 278 comments My SF novel Twin-Bred will be free tomorrow (Wed.) and Thursday Feb. 15-16, and I've been promoting the bejesus out of it. I set up a Goodreads event and sent it to my Goodreads friends, and I'm starting to do tweets and FB posts. Tomorrow I'll be posting in all relevant and acceptable Goodreads groups, plus on my various FB pages, plus LinkedIn, plus Twitter, plus SheWrites, plus LibraryThing, plus Shelfari. . . . (Yikes.)

You think...I wonder if any of my authors would agree Georgina; when it's a work in progress. However, thanks for the sentiment, appreciated.

My first published novel is The Bones of the Earth, a fantasy that's probably more for adults than teens. It's available through Goodreads.

I look forward to exploring this group!

I'm an author. I love editors. It's best to get critical feedback in order to fix and rewrite before publication. Editors are part of the team that help us reach that professional level. Can't do without them. :)

(see, I had to go back and edit my post)

So nice to hear that Georgina. I don't think you heard the groans from this end when one rewrite had the last couple of chapters returned. Cheers to groans in minutes. Then another client thought he had cracked his too...until I noted he's been working on two computers; one has curly speechmarks, t'other has straight. Now we have a scouring weekend :) Ouch!
However, posts and emails don't count so much with the odd error do they? It's just those stories...sorry non fiction writers. My preference speaking.

Tom Jackson (goodreadscomtom_jackson) | 7 comments Hi Vincent,

Thanks for creating the Group.
I've just joined and posted my debut novel details on 'The Devil's Legacy' - a Contemporary and Historical Mystery.

It was great to see the UK Round Table badge. I haven't seen it for many years. Although I'm originally from Manchester, I've lived in Greece since 1977, and through the 1980s I was an active member of Round Table Greece - serving as President before stepping down.
All the Best,
Tom Jackson.
