Donna | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am Donna from Canada and I love to read.
Reading is my escape from the world. I have 3 adult children, they have all flew the nest, and one came back at present. I just started working in the fashion industry and really enjoy it. Hope to read some interesting books. Eh!

Jessica (Books Party of Three) Hi, I am new to this group. I'm Jessica, from Wisconsin. It looks like the books listed in the "currently reading" are for August. Will there be September books posted soon or am I not understanding correctly? Let me know. Looking forward to many good reads.

message 57: by Birgit (new)

Birgit (birgit_at) | 2 comments Hi, I'm from Austria (Europe) and just love to read! As a stay-at-home mom of two kids under 3 it sometimes isn't as easy to read as I want it to be - but I always find the time.

message 58: by Hermione (new)

Hermione (hermione315) Hi All! I'm Hermione, I live in Manhattan, and I love to read! Not such a huge fan of Oprah, but I love the picks on her booklist. Currently reading "All the Kings Men" and just finished "The Grapes of Wrath". I have a small dog and I'm studying Biology at Columbia. Can't wait to contribute!

message 59: by Julie (new)

Julie (julg) Hi everyone! My name is Julie and I live in Boston, Mass. I never really thought much of Oprah, but when my college roommate pushed me to read her books I was absolutely drawn to them. I just finished Unbearable Lightness and look forward to our next book!

message 60: by Katie (new)

Katie Kreamer (adaywithkt) Hi! My name is Katie and I'm from Raleigh, North Carolina. I have so concur that I'm not a huge fan of Oprah, but the books she suggests are usually fantastic. I've been married to my best friend for five years now and we have a 1 year old shihtzu. message 62: by Nicole (new)

message 63: by Christen (new)

Christen (bunni23) Hello everyone! I just joined this group and it's my first group on GoodReads, so I'm pretty excited! I have never been that into Oprah, but I keep reading her bookclub books and they are always really good! I've already read several of her selections. Anywho, I'm from Ohio, 23, and working on a degree for web design, and already have one for psychology. I have been a book worm since birth!

message 65: by Mashelda (new)

Mashelda Patterson Hello everyone. Unlike a lot of the comments I have seen so far, I am a big fan of Oprah but I have only read a few of her books. I am looking forward to reading more of them and discussing them here. I just turn 40 last month and I live in Phoenix, Arizona. This is my first book club and I am really looking forward to this!

Welcome Mashelda! I'm an Oprah fan, too, and I've only read a few of her books. You're not the only one :)

Hi,

My computer handle is Tea. My real name is Hattie. I am very fond of Oprah and any books chosen by her. I would feel proud to be a part of a book group with her name. I live in Southeastern Tennessee. I'm married. My children are grown-ups and have moved out and come home for visits. I love, love to read. Would love to read As I lie Dying by Faulkner. I see it's the December book. I have the book. Thank goodness. Is it alright if I join the group read?

message 68: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 218 comments Mod
Of course, Hattie! Great to have you! I leave all the book discussions open so if you see a book we've read in the past, feel free to share your thoughts on it. Can't wait to read Faulker in December, too!

message 69: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Sarah and I'm from Philadelphia, PA. I've been looking for a book club to discuss thought provoking storylines and in my search I found this group. I can't wait to read and discuss the great books from the reading list!

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi! I'm Alison and I've just joined the group. With two young and active boys I have found I don't read as much as I did in the past. When I have a book that is recommended, I read it quickly. It's just getting the ideas for books to read.

I'm excited to be part of this group and look forward to the discussions.

message 72: by Molly (new)

Molly Hi! I'm Molly and joined the group as well as goodreads.com very recently. I began reading the books off the Oprah Book Club list a couple years ago. I haven't loved every one of the selections but I sure can say it re-ignited my love for reading and I haven't stopped since. This is my first book club- can someone tell me how it works? Will there be a dedicated thread for Book Club selections with sub-levels for each book, Dates to 'meet' online to discuss, etc.

message 73: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 218 comments Mod
Hi Molly! Nice to have you!

For this group, we read two books a month. One is from Oprah's Official Book club and one is a recently published book that our group members have picked. The books we are currently reading are on our group homepage. You read at your own pace and then post your thoughts on the discussion thread for that book. You can find all the books we've discussed in the Book Discussion and Books on Oprah folders on our home page.

I leave all the discussions open for all the books so when new members, like yourself, join they can post their thoughts on that book even if we've read it in the past.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

message 74: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Hi to Bookworms just like me,
My name is Lori G. and I live in Northridge, CA which is a suburb of Los Angeles and about 20 miles NW of Hollywood. Just saw that one of my fellow Good Read friends belongs to this group and thought I'd give it a try.

Since getting laid off fro my office assistant's job at LAUSD my reading has increased tremendously. And finding Good Reads was a GREAT find as I'm being introduced to books I wouldn't otherwise know about. Plus finally "meeting" people who enjoy reading as much as I.

Thanks for joining, Lori! I'm sorry about your job, buy yay for more reading, right? :)

I wrote a welcome post for all our members on our home page so go check it out. Also, we're voting right now for books for the next three months, so head over to the polls page and vote!

message 76: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Thanx for the welcome Jessica. And yes "but yea for more reading time.

Also on the voting, do I vote just for one book? Also, do we need to read both books for the month? Looking forward to learning about new titles.

message 77: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 218 comments Mod
You get to vote for one book on each poll. I wish you could vote for more, but that's how the goodreads polls are set up.

You don't have to read both books every month. Some members have already read all of the Official book club books and therefore want to read new books and some joined this group just to read the Official book club books. You can read both or just one of them. It's up to you!

message 78: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (koobaby) Hi, my name is Sonia from Ohio. I love love love my Nook and I love to read. I read before work, during work, after work...anywhere I get a free minute. And I am always looking for my next great read. Also looking forward to getting to know my new friends here on Goodreads.

message 81: by T'leah (new)

T'leah (tmcquade) | 2 comments Hi!
I am T'Leah. I just heard about Good Reads yesterday and am psyched, especially after finding this club. I mostly read fantasy, but when I mix it up I generally take recommendations from the Oprah book list.

message 85: by Leigh Ann (new)

Leigh Ann (auntannie) | 3 comments Hi! My name is Leigh Ann and I live in Indiana, married with 2 teenage boys. The first book on Oprah's list I read was The Book of Ruth. Totally NOT what I expected! Loved it! She recommended great books so I'm glad to find this group and look forward to the discussions.

message 86: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Welcome, Leigh Ann. The first book I read from Oprah's List was "The Deep End of the Ocean". And that was a really good book, definitely not Oprah's usual fare as the book club progressed.

Again, welcome to this group.

message 87: by Leigh Ann (new)

Leigh Ann (auntannie) | 3 comments Was that book about a child who dies? If it's what I think it is, I couldn't bring myself to read it. I haven't followed Oprah for a few years. How did her choices change?

message 88: by Leigh Ann (new)

Leigh Ann (auntannie) | 3 comments Oh, and thanks for the welcome. :)

Lori Goldstein Leigh Ann wrote: "Was that book about a child who dies? If it's what I think it is, I couldn't bring myself to read it. I haven't followed Oprah for a few years. How did her choices change?"

"The Deep End of the Ocean" by Jacquelyn Mitchard is about Beth Cappodera who goes to her high school reunion. While in the lobby with her young son he gets kidnapped. Not to spoil the plot read this first then No Time to Wave Goodbye which continues the Cappodera's story.

message 90: by Lesley (new)

Lesley I have wondered about reading this sequel. Is it good Lori? I liked The Deep End ...

Yes it was good Lesley and helped to tie up some loose ends. Let me know what you think.

message 92: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 2 comments Hey everyone! I'm Cassandra, 25, currently pregnant with our first child(30 weeks) and living in Alaska. I enjoy reading but recently have set a reading challenge for myself. In the next 10 months I plan on reading 50 books. Why 10 months? Because my wonderful husband is a soldier in the US Army recently deployed to Afghanistan. So hopefully I'll get some good ideas for books here. Look forward to reading up on everything

message 93: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Welcome Cassandra. Very interesting the goals you've set for yourself. BTW where in Alaska do you live because I've got a friend who's in the Wasilla area. And thank your husband for his service. Let's talk again soon.

message 94: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 2 comments Anchorage. & Thank you

message 95: by Lesley (new)

message 99: by Sabine (new)

Sabine (isla1661) | 3 comments Hello, I live in Valenciennes, in the north of France near the Belgian border. I am a primary school teacher and I enjoy reading good books in English. I've read a few of Oprah Books, though I've never seen one of her shows. My favorite books include The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Never look back by Lesley Pearse, and The Wheel of Fortune by Susan Howatch. I'm eager to have some good books recommendations :-)

message 100: by Lori (last edited Dec 28, 2011 09:48AM) (new)

Lori Goldstein Welcome Sabine. I promise to send some book suggestions your way as soon as I look over your profile. Again, nice to see another new member here.

Fern Michaels is a wonderful author and I would definitely recommend her Texas, Las Vegas, Kentucky series. If you look at my 1,000,000 page message you'll see them listed. BTW send me a message so we can become friends if you wouldn't mind. TTYS
