is mee... kissa oh my god that was hilarious! i loved that bit. i liked that he was laughing... even if it was at Mac... hell i was laughing too.. and even more when Barrons started laughing at her :D

message 252: by Joanna (new)

Joanna (joannaoj) | 23 comments yeah me too. LOL. i really like it that he cared for Mac. like how Dani described him to Mac(how Barrons found his cake -that is Mac- and wants to eat it) when he came bursting in the abbey to see and get Mac.

also the BIRTHDAY CAKE! awww. i think he was touched by Mac's gesture. i love it. even if he ruined his cake. lol

message 253: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments I think it shows he does care otherwise he wouldn't have reacted that way.He is scared of how he feels with Mac and when he came to the abby to find her after she came back to her senses, I think there was a brief chance that he would have shown he cared if only Mac had trusted him a little more. But I can understand where she is coming from too. She has never had a choice yettt. Everything has been foisted onto her. But maybe she should eat her own words and take what she can with Barrons while they have time together (referencing her comment to Barrons that maybe the UK should have enjoyed his life with the concubine instead of trying to make her immortal).

message 254: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments Okay some have speculated that Barron s is the UK. i don;t think he is. I just am re-reading Darkfever now. Mac asks Barrons what he is. He says Pict. He seemed startled that someone would ask. Like it had been such a long time since he had thought about it. If he was the UK he would be fae and super ancient. Anyways another part from the book to support this is the vision Mac gets in his head. I think him and his merry band of men were mercenaries and while out on a mission their homefront was attacked. And the boy he loved was killed. Then they somehow got hooked up working for the fae and drank from the immortal flask.

message 255: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments Also Barrons refers to the fae as them and that he is not one of them.

message 256: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments Just had a thought - what iif the two beasts under the garage are actually some of his merry band of men and maybe that lady was one of them. And maybe he keeps them there when they are in beast form so they won't hurt anyone. And then he brought them out when they turned back to human. Being they have to be killed to turn back. We saw how hard it was for Roydan against the creature.

Zeek | 187 comments TLF- i suggested that earlier in connection with the them possibly being the draghar who were expelled from Dageus Mackeltar in The Dark Highlander. I still havent given up on that theory...

message 258: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments I think you have something there. I think I was inspird or building off of all the theories I have read. LOL

message 259: by Zeek (new)

Zeek | 187 comments LOL! There's so many of them! WE JUST WANT THE BOOK!

message 260: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (thebookwarrioress) | 130 comments True that!

message 261: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) If you want the answer to whom the beast is, Karen posted the first 2 chapters on her blog and it tells you.

message 262: by April (new)

April (xrayapril) | 6 comments Barrons was to me exactly how Mac saw him in the first book...the guy I/she would never dream of getting entangled with. Then I went on this journey with them and I fell hard for him too. Hands down my favorite male character in a novel

Teresa (tsmilo) | 8 comments ITA! He's the first fictional character that I've been totally infatuated with. I'm a little obsessive about it. I worry for my sanity :)

Me too! I agree.

message 268: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kirstenlaniohan) Wow,I'm just about finished reading Darkfever, and I am really beginning to like Barrons. I can't wait to learn more about him in the next books. =)

message 269: by Zeek (new)

Zeek | 187 comments I got really obsessed by him too! In fact, I began to get a litte too upset when people couldnt see what a great character he was!! Yes to each his own- but... Barrons. ::dreamy sigh::

Yea,I could totally understand. I mean, you gotta like a guy who will be willing to paint a girls nails, right? :)

message 271: by Gin (new)

Gin (gynh) | 9 comments Okay. So, I am recently hopped on the Fever train. I am through all the books...twice...and I can't help but feel like I still have no answer to Barrons! Am I missing discussions or posts by Moning? Who was he..why were they traipsing across a desert...who was the woman he held above all others...where did his son come from...what were they fighting for and what is the curse and who cursed them??? I am still not sure why everyone is so fecking afraid of him! I get that he can't be killed but why is Cruce/V'lane and everyone else afraid of him? What does he eat? Hearts?? So, I guess what I'm saying is I wanna know what I've missed and what we know about Barrons!

message 272: by Zeek (new)

Zeek | 187 comments we're all where you are- many of us believe (ie hoping) that will come out with the next set of books centered around Ryo! :P

message 273: by April (new)

April (xrayapril) | 6 comments I like to think of Barrons as a highly evolved vampire/werewolf/druid type lol. I don't think we'll ever get all the concrete answers we want, but I kinda like KMM not labeling it for me. It allows me to build my own personal view of Barrons :)

Zeek

mee tooo!!!Lol

message 275: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I also like that she isn't classifying him. I mean, I'll admit to wanting to know more about his son and his sons mother (obviously there was one, lol). But as far as knowing WHAT he is, I just dont' care, lol. Which was KMM's goal, to make us not care.

well then i was a successful project.

message 277: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments V - Barrons and his group of men were mercenaries before they changed and the fae are scared of him becasue he can kill them ( he killed on of the princesses). We never learn how or why he can kill them. I don't know if there really was a women he held above others, he only said he wanted to bring a women down to his "cave" and feel what it was like to have her with him and then he killed her. I think he craves blood as a beast, fresh kill and meat type of thing. All of the other questions don't really have answers. He just said they were different and the men in his group didn't even know it until years later when one of them should have died and didn't andthen they figured out thre was something different about them. Hope this helped a little. LOL

message 278: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments KMM goal wasn't to make us not care, that was for Mac I think. For us she wanted him to be what "our" imaginations thought of. She said somewhere she didn't want thim to fit into any of the hero catagories that were out there. She didn't wantt him to fill in a niche. Though my favorite line in Twilight is when Bella is trying to figure out what Edward is adn she comes to realize it just doesn't matter/ I think this what is came down to with Mac to and us to in a sense. Unconditional Love!

message 279: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) | 136 comments I'm glad she didn't give us all the details, because what makes Barrons most attractive - over all other sexy male characters in other novels - is that he's an enigma. Part of the lure is not knowing! I was worried that once we got our answers I was going to be like, "that's it?" I'm sure the next series will give more answers about Barron's beastie boys, but I doubt we'll get specifics about Barrons himself. KMM said she's considering writing a book on Barrons, but that it won't be easy for us to read. I think to get all the answers about Barrons we seek would definitely have to be a whole separate book. It would just take too much away from Mac's story and the fever world.

Mac doesn't care, why should we right?! He's yummy no matter what!

message 281: by Gwennie (last edited Mar 13, 2011 02:31PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I actually got that off Moning's website, lol. This is what she said:
• When every other novel I was picking up in the bookstore announced: Vampire/Werewolf/Demon hero on the cover, and was marketing it on the basis of that paranormal creature’s mythic resonance, I wanted to write a story with a male center-stage character that defied labels, and wouldn’t permit one. I wanted to make the reader choose to take him or leave him without the convenience of a pre-packaged tortured-hero caricature to slap over his outline, and no easy answers about whether he was good or bad. I wanted to write a paranormal creature and never tell the reader what he was, because I believed they would ultimately see him more clearly in his everyday behavior, than through the distorted lens of someone else’s legend.

• Barrons says, “Judge me by my actions” and makes the reader do the same. At the end of the series, I want the reader to answer the question: Who/what is Barrons? the same way Mac does: Who cares? He’s Barrons.
Here's the link if anyone wants to read the whole blog from KMM. Be careful, it's FULL of spoilers!

I like that we got a little something to hint what Barrons is but not the full story of what he is, b/c I a little mystery to Barrons. Barrons just wouldn't be Barrons if I knew everything about him.

Samina The Story Devourer | 28 comments Yes excatly. I mean some part of me wants to know more about him but the other likes the mystery. However at the end of the day who cares He Barrons and that is what matters. He is totally sexilious...

message 284: by Gin (new)

Gin (gynh) | 9 comments I get that we don't need to know exactly What he is...I am fine with that. But there are sooooo many little hints and innuendos and untold stories it gets a bit distracting. I'd just like to know more of his back story. When Mac was in his head there was a woman he held above all others...she also saw him kill a man after he killed his wife and children...he does mention cursing at the sky and having to endlessly fight a war for someone...Fiona tells him he should have left her to die where he found her instead of saving her (so apparently he can save people and make them somewhat immortal because she was around for a LONG time)...why is he the leader of the 8..did he make them too??? Anyways, I was just thinking since I was late to the party maybe I missed some answers from Moning on her message boards or something. Guess I will just have to leave it up to my imagination!

message 285: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) There's definitely more to Barrons then what we know now, but there will be more books so I'm hoping that those at least touch on the answers.

message 286: by Gin (new)

Gin (gynh) | 9 comments So, I just saw a commercial for the Motorolla xoom tablet and the guy in it totally struck me as Barrons!!! Victor Ross...

message 287: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments He didn't make Fio immortal at all. She was aging. She started eating fae adn that is what made her kind of immortal. I think he just saved her from being a homeless person or someone in the gutter or down on life. I don't remember him ever thinking or saying he held a women above others. But that he did bring a women down "once" to his hideout place because he wanted to have had someone there at least once with him but then he killed her the same night. Did he love this women?

message 288: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) | 352 comments Mod
It wasn't said, but I think it was just like you said, a women to have for one night to be in Jericho's world or something like that. Like apparently he can't be wit a woman b/c of his secret.

message 289: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I thought I remember him saying that he has loved 'someone' beyond all others, but not necessarily a woman. It was when mac accused him of being heartless.

message 290: by Gaynell (new)

Gaynell (gaynellk) | 42 comments I think the woman that he loved above all others was his wife (the mother of his son) before he became what he now is.

message 291: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I think it would have been his sons mother, too.

message 292: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments He loved his 'Son' above all others.

message 293: by Zeek (last edited Mar 15, 2011 08:39AM) (new)

Zeek | 187 comments That's what I thought too, TLF, but thought I must have missed something since everyone else is missing it. If the wording is "someone" it's def. his son. Does anyone else know the "exact" wording. (I'm too lazy to look it up.)

message 294: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) | 136 comments If you're talking about the time in the garage when he chained Mac up, he says "Yes, I have loved... I have lost." It was very general. However, in Dreamfever, during Priya and she gets in his head, he says something like "..will she denounce us? she is our world." I don't think who she is is significant, but I'm assuming it's a woman he loved around the time he turned. Maybe it is his baby Mama.

message 295: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I can look it up when I get home. I'm not near my book.

message 296: by Zeek (last edited Mar 15, 2011 11:37AM) (new)

Zeek | 187 comments "will she denounce us? she is our world."

uhhh I was assuming that was Mac he was thinking about when I read this????

message 297: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) | 136 comments When I originally read it that thought occurred to me too, but I don't think it's Mac. It seemed like it was a straight flashback and about someone else. So far, every time Mac has invaded his head it's about whatever memory he's having and doesn't tie to her except in SF when it was a memory all about her.

message 298: by True Love Forever (new)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments I thought it was the Seelie Queen teh first time I read it and that maybe they worked for her.

message 299: by Gin (new)

Gin (gynh) | 9 comments OK..this is part of it from Dreamfever...Mac is in Barron's head..

"..What have we done? What have we become? Have they gotten to her? Does she know? Will she denounce us? Turn her face away? She is our world. Our brightest star, our brightest sun, and now we are dark as night...We who have killd without conscience, taken without question, conquered without hesitation, now question it all. Undone by a single act..."

Then Barrons shakes her "awake" and she asks.."Who is she?....You preferred her to all others. Why? Did she mate better?..."

message 300: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It certainly implies that there was someone else, definitely.
