Kristen | 486 comments Maybe it has something to do with how they can kill the fae with no weapons? Barrons has said he doesn't know what the fae are made up of and Mac things they're made of energy, they can't use computers and things because they short them or something?

Mila_Lumi | 15 comments I read in the glossary of Burned that the Nine are rumoured to have once been humans originating from Earth...if that's true, they would have started out on human food (paleo would definitely fall into the category of what was available back then). So, it stands to reason they can eat regular human food but probably have no preference for it. I think they drink blood too, not as a drink as such...more like from eating or squeezing a heart or eating raw meat. Kinda like how some animals don't drink water but get it from the food they eat.

message 405: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 486 comments I think so too. I wonder if blood means something else to them though (besides food) considering Barrons reaction when Mac told him she gave him her blood, and Ryodans about Dani drinking Christians. I think they like hearts a lot too. In best form Barrons always ate the hearts out of the creatures he killed, and the bones with marrow in them. But I keep thinking the blood also might mean something else significant?

Also Ryodan licking Lor's heart was kind of creepy. Not just gross he ripped it out, but did he have to lick it? At least he didn't eat it.

Mila_Lumi | 15 comments I wonder if blood is the price they pay for what they are? Maybe they have to consume it to sate the beast...but to consume it they have to kill or can't take it without killing & that's why Barrons reacted that way to Mac telling him she fed him her blood. Although...he did lick the blood of her arse in Shadowfever...so maybe they don't have to kill but they do have to have it, like it's some of kind tithe to the beast or whatever made them the way they are.

Yeah, that was weird. It's was kind of grossly intimate in a psycho killer kind of way. I half expected him to munch into it like an apple...glad he stopped at licking it lol

Kristen | 486 comments Katie that's what I was thinking too! It was intimate in a very very weird way. I mean I can actually imagine Ryodan looking at Lor while their alone in his office and go "I licked your heart". In a "oOh yea baby I've been there" kind of way. Ryodan hearts Lor lol He didn't eat it, or suck the blood out through a straw, give it a good whiff, and especially glad he didn't kiss it.

message 408: by Mila_Lumi (new)

Mila_Lumi | 15 comments I just had a vision of Ryodan with his head tilted back, squeezing Lor's heart like a soaped up loofah over his mouth, drizzling blood down his neck & chest...oh god, I am literally grinning like an idiot at that thought. If I wanted to take it a step further I'd say all that was missing is Barrons walking in and then licking the blood off Ryo's chest...ewwww lol!!!

message 409: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 486 comments lol who knows what goes on in that bottom level. They've been together for a long time, probably tried everything and practically ooze sex. If Mac and Dani can feel all that coming off them, I wonder how they feel each other, if it's amped up when their around each other. Kind of eggs it on? Maybe that's why they join up on the lower floors.

I wanna see Lor's face, if Mac ever lets it slip Ryodan was licking on his heart. lol Maybe it's some kind of beasty affectionate love tap.

message 410: by Mila_Lumi (last edited Jan 23, 2015 11:03PM) (new)

Mila_Lumi | 15 comments Oh I know, I've wondered what vibe they get off each other too, I kinda want someone to be made into one of them so we can hear about it from a newly made beasts perspective. I've just realised how icky my Ryo/Barrons chest licking comment is seeing as they are brothers.

Haha, won't hug you bro, but I'll tongue your heart!

message 411: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 486 comments lol True, I kind of thought it was funny when Mac mentioned Ryodans "head" like a lollipop. I wonder what Barrons reaction would be if she mentioned that about his brother.

And hey Mac did have sex with Barrons when he was in half beast form, though I didn't think too much of it at the time. That's not nearly as bad as Christian and his shriveled up corpse incident.

Still it seems like it's something more then that. Though I also think how the nine have a special hate for fae (even though they cater to them at the club) is odd too. Maybe it's just a supernatural Alpha territory thing.

Mila_Lumi | 15 comments I don't doubt she'll let something slip about seeing him naked. When she does Barrons is going to bust that vein in his eye that twitches whenever he has an 'ocular tantrum' lol. I hope Ryodan & Lor are there when she spills, I really like her but I do get some kind of sick enjoyment out of seeing people caught out in embarrassing situations :)

I never thought much about the bestiality element of that scene before either. I think because he still had the form of a man but with darker skin, a beastie face & fangs...oh & an expanding dick lol. KMM worded it well enough not to draw negative attention to it I guess. Christian & the corpse was gross, and it shocked me when it happened...it was like having a new character shoved in your face. I'm so glad he wasn't a creepy obsessive weirdo in Burned, even though he was being flayed alive.

I think you're right about the alpha territorial thing. The Nine probably have some DNA ingrained dislike towards certain other dominant species. I also wonder if because they potentially started out as human & have been around since before dirt, that they have the same abhorrence towards the Fae that the SS do & it goes against their nature to co-exist with them? I think the club is a means to an end, secure their empire now to secure the future they desire. I think once they've reached whatever outcome they are aiming for, they will massacre the Fae until they are all dead or have left. Ryodan or Barrons once referred to the Fae as cockroaches & the Nine as Raid, which is another thing that makes me think they are only suffering them to exist for now.

message 413: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 486 comments I just think it would hilarious if Mac brought up Ryodans lollipop in front of all three men, and then asked Lor if there was anything going on between him and Ryodan that encouraged Ryodan to lick (kiss of the beast) his heart. Lol

Also agree with you about the nine and fae theory. Trojan horse sort of. Helps keep track of them too.

Theresa (thesa) | 136 comments He's currently losing to Curran in the VBC Alpha Showdown. I love Curran, so this is really difficult for me, but I just think Barrons is more of a bad ass. You can vote here: http://vampirebookclub.net/alpha-show...

Kristen | 486 comments KMM said Fio didn't know all that much and was too easily controlled for the nine to stick to their rules and care she knew anything about them at all, but she still seemed to know a lot to me. She had access to any an all books, knew Mac was a null, knew about the mirror, knew about Barrons not being able to die, and probably about the others, long with maybe what he eats? Why be able to confide in her at all and never Mac, like him and Fiona could have real discussions and be lovers.

And what do the nine care if anyone knows so much about them anyone, what with the world falling down and being immortal, anyone that ever knew anything would eventually die off. Though maybe they do have weaknesses and don't want the fae to know or anyone else because that would make them a little vulnerable. Or maybe someone else has set the rules and that's just a part of them. Also wonder if he sees Mac as his forever?

Very good point, I should add this to my growing "parts that are odd in terms of Barrons" list.
Also, he called her Fio. Mac is Ms. Lane.
Nobody sees it, but I'm shaking my head right now.

message 417: by Monica (new)

Monica Okay this has always bothered me so I have to know if others have noticed it...Barrons doesn't have a heartbeat but there are two instances (which I can remember) where KMM mentions Barrons' heart "racing". For example, in Feverborn it says: "...do whatever he does that makes his body electric and his heart pound again." The paragraph before mentions his lack of a beating heart though...? Is it figurative or an author slip?

Saphia | 76 comments When Barrons feeds his heart beats, when he hasn't fed recently it stops beating.
