Hated it. Bad writing, too many characters, too many plots rolled into one. It was like an amateur 12-year-old kid trying to write a story and squishing every imaginable plot twist into it.

I barely started, because I just finished another book, but the Prologue about Leck was like...very disturbing.

So I'm reading

13 Little Blue Envelopes... 13 Little Blue Envelopes (Little Blue Envelope, #1) by Maureen Johnson

for the second time.

And I just read... Falling in Love with English Boys... Falling in Love with English Boys by Melissa Jensen last night.

And I also checked out The Wonder Spot from the library today, The Wonder Spot by Melissa Bank

I'm planning on reading 100 books this year... 1 and a half down so far.

message 54: by tesni (new)

tesni (akhmatova) | 5031 comments I'm going to try and read 100 as well. I've got about 50 pages of The Grapes of Wrath to read, and then finish off South of the Border, West of the Sun, and I'll have two completed.

Just checked out Crash, by J.G. Ballard. I guess it's about a bunch of people who get sexually aroused by getting in car wrecks, and then crazy erotic dreams and stuff go down. My kind of thing.

LOVE THESE BOOKS SO MUCH.

GAH I KNOW. THEY ARE PURE BRILLIANCE.

I'm so glad I didn't have to do that. Waiting two weeks between the first and second was hard enough.

message 69: by tesni (new)

tesni (akhmatova) | 5031 comments Well, it depends what you mean by inappropriate. Like, what age group wold find it offensive, when another might not, or anything.

Anyway, I haven't read it. Though I'd like to.

Ok so i finished torment!!!! and i was so proud of luce. i mean she did that really stupid thing at the end but i understand her reasons. She knew she loved Daniel and that he loved her. and i was ok with that. but she wanted to know why he picked her and loved her and why she loved him, and if all of the pain that Daniel has caused was worth it. i really liked that. nad i totally agree with you, Miles does seem a little gay. i was ssooooo mad when she let Miles kiss her just because she and daniel were fighting and he was a nice friend. and omg thanksgiving was sssoooo awkward lol

My mom is in love with that book.

I'm reading through my collection of Thomas Ligotti stories (I always seem to be doing that) and I still love it. He has risen to be possibly my favorite horror writer of all time, though horror is a bad word for him. He is just a master of weird fiction.

Shreya=Drastically Random. Find the emoticon. | 1078 comments I don't like horror. :( Everything comes back to you at night...*creepy music*
And I GUESS I am in love with that book. But not as much as I love the PENDERWICKS! I am obsessed with that book.

'You were thirsty.'
'So then if I sit down you'll fill me in?'

'Hal, you are here because I am a professional conversationalist, and your father has made an appointment with me, for you, to converse.'
'MYURP. Excuse me.'
Tap tap tap tap.
'SHULGSPAHHH.'
Tap tap tap tap.
'You're a professional conversatoinalist?'

That is from the book Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, which I am reading at the mo'. Yeah, I am in love with it.

I've been meaning to read Infinite Jest for a while, but it looks so...intimidating and huge.

It deserves the intimidation. I'd honestly suggest waiting before reading it for a while. It's not only massive, but hard as poop to read at parts.

Paha, that's a good point. I'm going to be stuck reading this thing probably until the last David Foster Wallace book is released, at which time I'll be forced to buy that...Dang.

oh well. As long as you still want to read it, then it shouldn't be too much of a chore.

(Eh, not necessarily true I suppose. I know that now after reading The Grapes of Wrath)

I am pumped reading this. Something about needing to use three bookmarks on a book the size of a baby gets me all excited.

tesni (akhmatova) | 5031 comments three bookmarks? Is one not enough? O_o

message 89: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Well you need one for your current spot, but then you want one for a page that has a timeline and one for where you are in the footnotes, which take up about a 10th of the book.

message 90: by tesni (new)

tesni (akhmatova) | 5031 comments I see. Yeah, I heard that the the footnotes and such are a hundred pages or so. Eeek.

message 91: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
Yeah...I just got the first chapter to really start using them. It's a bit terrifying when you go to read a quick footnote only to find out that it's 10 pages long in size 9 font. Strike that, it's COMPLETELY terrifying.

message 92: by tesni (new)

tesni (akhmatova) | 5031 comments Yikes. I imagine that it would be. Still, it must make for pretty exciting and unusual reading at the same time, musn't it?
