Well, in the genre of herotic fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Gene Wolfe's various works. Patricia McKillip's Forgotten Beasts of Eld has a special place in my heart, Robert E. Howard when I was a wee lad (ok, when I was a teenager), I liked the character of Thorkell very much in Kay's The Last Light of the Sun. Poul Anderson's The Broken Sword, Narnia was good, and one of the few films that was truly faithful to the books, especially compared to Peter Jackson's defilement of Tolkien's works (sorry, don't mean to sound bitter). Glen Cooks various works, especially his Dread Empire series, although I liked The Black Company books too. I guess that's enough for now. Take care everyone.

The longest journey begins with a single page.

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 53 comments Watersmeet, Ranger's Apprentice, the Bartimaeus Trilogy, Graceling, Fire, and of course, THE HUNGER GAMES and DIVERGENT!

message 212: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments I haven't read any of those yet, lol. I accidentally read the first two chapters of the hunger games...

message 213: by E.J. (new)

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 53 comments Oh, stop it, it wasn't that bad. I liked Hunger Games despite it's unbelievably simple and easy-to-predict plot. It was a really good idea, could've been better executed. And Graceling and Fire are sister books... Graceling's better.

message 214: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments I mean accidentally as in I was originally going to read a paragraph but it was so good I couldn't stop reading...

message 215: by E.J. (new)

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 53 comments Okay, that sounds better than what I thought you meant. I thought you meant it was so horrible that reading two pages was an accident and you regretted it.

message 221: by Carli (new)

Carli (squid1998) | 35 comments So I'm not sure if books about Utopias and/or Dystopias fall into science fiction or fantasy, but I absolutely love them!

message 222: by E.J. (new)

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 53 comments They fall into a futuristic Science Fiction I think. If you want to read a challenging, thoughtful book without much action, read We by Yevgeny Zamyatin (sp). It's a Russian Translation. Brilliant book.

message 223: by Carli (new)

Carli (squid1998) | 35 comments It is called "We"?

I also like Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan, just found the idea of ancient Greek mythology played in modern society fascinating.
BTW if anyone knows of books that mostly resemble the ones above do tell.

message 240: by Robin (new)

Robin | 2 comments I was recently introduced to a book by Paulo Coelho call The Alchemist. For those of you who haven't read it I think it is a must read! This book is great for all ages and it is a timeless story of coming into ones self and the value of all of life's adventures good and bad. It's a small book with a big impact. I loved it so much I went out and purchased it after reading a library copy so that I could read it again and again.

Love them all but I haven't yet fully read The Three Musketeers. I lover the story though. I also have to say that I like Brandon Sanderson's work and don't mind the Inheritance books (although not the greatest ever). I also have a fondness for an Aussie writer's series: The Ranger's Apprentice and for the Inkheart books.

Yeah I love it because he's Australian too (patriotism haha). I also plan to read that new series of his and his most recent book. Actually I plan to buy it. Its my goal to own all my personal favourite books at some point. I'm on my way so far...

I also love Brandon Sanderson's books of late. He's perhaps one of the few authors I feel can really write epic fantasy that's not simply taking source material from elsewhere and sticking it together to make a book.

message 246: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 38 comments I really enjoyed Brandon Sanderson's books too. He's got a new one coming out that I need to read too. :)

If I wrote a book called A History of the Grains of Sand in the Sahara Desert, would you read it?

Have you seen the BBC Sherlock Holmes or the Robert Downy Jr. Sherlock Holmes? They're both way different and both amazing. I haven't read any of the stories yet, but I do like Edgar Allan Poe's stuff.
