Lee | 701 comments Another "great" 85 point day for me! :) Other than the Raider game, the other four games I missed were by a total of ten points.

message 102: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) a 19 yr old girl is beating all of us... just saying :)

message 103: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Week to week is of no concern. One week is a fluke, sixteen is the real thing.

message 104: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Phil, I did the same thing with Tennessee. I changed it at the last minute in both of my games. I should know better. :(

message 105: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments if carolina could kick away from hester i would have stole some upset points. this is shaping out to be a very interesting year in football. did the lock-out cause some parity?

message 106: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments fudgecycle! i had IND as one of my two upsets this week (along with CAR over CHI) they both had a chance to pull it off but stepped on their own crank. shoot.

message 107: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments I'm certainly glad IND didn't pull it out. TB was my 16-pt game. That would have hurt.

Jim | 6484 comments Petra, give my congrats to C. She had a very good week.

message 109: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I will! that's my girl. :)

message 110: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i think that we will each have to make some upset predictions to jump ahead (or fall behind) and split the pack up. can we drop 2 weeks? :)

message 111: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments The byes will change the dropped weeks. In the end, most everyone's dropped week will be one of the bye weeks.

message 112: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) not necessarily...

message 113: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) it is a long season Charly... you will come around... I went crazy with upsets this week so I am not even going to look at the points until Mon morning :)

message 114: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i will prob spend a season of "what if's" after i pick upsets each week. last week it was what if for CAR and IND

message 115: by Phil (last edited Oct 07, 2011 07:08AM) (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Charly wrote: "I don't think so either. There are only three less games if that. I think there is always a week where you just get blown up and that's the one that will be the drop."

Three fewer games. That translates to 45 fewer points available. A full-slate of games offers 136 total points to be won. Take away that 45 and you only have 91 available points.

Discounting "Brawny Bender," who forgot to enter picks for games in the first week, our dropped scores currently range from 76 to 98.

League Avg. Score: 97
Pct. of total:   71.5%

Pct. applied to bye week:   65 pts.

If we pick about the same as we have been, we should average about 65 points for the weeks with three fewer games.

Mathematically, your statement is unlikely to be borne out.

message 116: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) *I am simply suggesting that usually in the course of a season you have a week that you get blown up in and it may very well be a full week or a bye week. *

yes, this appears to have been my week. :(
but, Tim Tebow almost won the game for us in the 2nd half and it was SOOOO exciting!

message 117: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments fudgecycle! i picked the bears to win only because i thought DET's late game heroics would wear out and instead they make big plays and win. i went from 4th to 7th with that one game and only missed 3 picks this week. IND, NYG and CHI all lost for me. suckers

message 118: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I am erasing this past week from my memory!

message 119: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Let me know how that works for you.

Phil | 11837 comments Phil wrote: "The byes will change the dropped weeks. In the end, most everyone's dropped week will be one of the bye weeks."

::high fives self::

Got one right. Even the person with the highest score this week had their lowest total of the season.

Can't argue with math.

Phil | 11837 comments Phil wrote: "I am so pissed at myself and my FIL. I told him early in the week that KC was going to be my 3-point pick this week, and that's exactly where I had them until 10:00 last night. That's when he finally talked me out of it, and I took the Vikes for 5.

I'm a fucking asshole for letting him talk me out of it."

::slaps self::

I did it again. When, when, when will I learn?

This time FIL kept repeating that Oakland would NEVER beat Houston -- they didn't have a chance.

Thanks, dad.

message 122: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) yea, Phil... blame it on your FIL... :)

Phil | 11837 comments Notice I called myself the bad name. He was just the catalyst for my stupidity.   :)

message 124: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) another mediocre week for me, but Tebow made my day!

message 125: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments I am having a difficult time getting a handle on some of these teams.

message 126: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments agreed P, i loved the tebow win. not pretty but a win. that might be what he brings to the table.

also agree jim. SEA looks decent and then can't beat CLE. TEN looked terrible. OAK gets mauled by KC (i know they had diff QB but...), NYJ's are a doc jekyl / mr hyde team, whatta weird season so far

message 127: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) remind me not to try and pick any upsets next week! Broncos were humiliated today! :(

message 128: by Phil (last edited Oct 30, 2011 06:59PM) (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Just pick the right ones. This week it was St. Louis. Ouch!

I did have a feeling that they would do something like that, so I only put eight points on New Orleans. Still, that eight points hurts. My upset pick is losing, too. I've got one point on Dallas, who currently trail 24-0 at the half.

message 129: by Lee (new)

Lee | 701 comments Well Phil, you and Michael had a nice week. Good job!

Phil, I picked Dallas as well... and KC because I used to live there and know how that rivalry supersedes their records. anything could happen.

message 131: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments After watching yesterday I can't explain it to you Charly.

message 132: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Tebow will start in Oakland this week, so you guys can put a lock on your highest point game. :)
But to be honest, other than our kicker, Prader, the Broncos are just awful. Tebow was bad Sunday, but no O-line, D is not getting it done, rb's are too small, and a coach that is not the right fit for Denver either.... should I go on?....

message 133: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Hey, hey, ho, ho,

NORV TURNER'S GOT TO GO!

It will be a long, continued descent for San Diego until that asshole is run out of town.

message 134: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Tough week coming up. I've changed my picks three times and I'm still looking them over. No advice from grandpa, though. He has steered me wrong too many times.

message 135: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments I put my picks in and walk away or I would second guess myself into an asylum.

message 136: by Phil (last edited Nov 04, 2011 02:13PM) (new)

Phil | 11837 comments I did that last week, entering them on Tuesday morning and forgetting about them, and the results were okay. But my confidence level this week is seriously off. I'm on my way to Arkham.

message 137: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments The Swami (ESPN's Chris Berman) has two of the games as:

Baltimore 23, Pittsburgh 22

San Diego 30, Green Bay 28

Grrr. I have both of those going the other way and I don't want to change them.

message 138: by Mary (new)

Mary (merrussell) I'm surprised he doesn't think Green Bay will win.

message 139: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Swami got San Diego wrong. That helped me a little. Let's hope his bad luck holds for Baltimore.

message 140: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i had to pick yesterday's games a week in advance and week 8's on my phone on an airplane the friday night before. i sucked both weeks but did better picking a week in advance.

message 141: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments That last Baltimore touchdown hurt me here, but helped in my fantasy league. Maybe I should make my picks here align with my fantasy team? It would make it easier to know who to root for.

message 142: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I am still riding the beating Oakland high! welcome back, Kevin!

message 143: by ms.petra (last edited Nov 07, 2011 09:57PM) (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Thank you, Charly. The Tebow lover's are happy and the haters are still haters. There is no in between here in Denver.
Good job this week, Kevin.
Phil, you are in first, just barely. Nice job.

message 144: by Mary (new)

Mary (merrussell) I really deserve last place since I really do not know what I am doing. It's been fun.

I'll take "barely." It's fine by me.

Nice job on the gamble for BigButkus -- 12 pts on Chicago. Bold!

message 146: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments This is the toughest week yet for picking games. A lot of them should be close.

message 147: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I agree, Phil...working on mine right now.

message 148: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i really like the parity in this year. there have been many games where most all of us have picked the same team and lost on a sure thing (Rams vs Saints). this is where the confidence points make a big diff on picks

message 149: by ms.petra (last edited Nov 12, 2011 06:11AM) (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) @Charly, sportsbook.com? just kidding.
I have a friend that bets a lot of games and you are right, it is an entirely different animal.
I also like the Survivor Pool where you pick one winner every week. You can only pick that team once per season and if your team loses you are out. KC killed me with their loss to MIAMI.

message 150: by Lee (new)

Lee | 701 comments Since I forgot to pick the Thursday night game, I took out the "16" game pick. But, when I picked the 15 others just now, says it's incomplete. Sorry, totally forgot about the Raider game!
