Heinlein...try "Tunnel in the Sky" and Glory Road. I liked both of them. Less phylisophical.

Thanks for the recs. I confess I get bored with Sci-Fi that is too philosophical.

I liked Tunnel in the Sky. Event's a good fast things blow up, get munched, explode with high tech read also. They had cool guns there too.

I could use a beta reader for my reviews. I reread them and find all kinds of embarassing errors.

Traci wrote: "Started Best Served Cold sort of a realism fantasy. Recommend it to anyone though who likes Dirty Dozen type of action. Good."

This is one of my favorites from Abercrombie. It gets more brutal as it goes on. I hope you like it. :)

I have to use a spell checker my browser offers, otherwise my spelling would be atrocious! lol It probably is when I post here from my cell phone.

message 109: by Traci (new)

Traci Hugh, I need a spell checker attached to my brain. Lol. My spelling is terrible. I fixed it today but I spelled villain wrong in three spots yesterday.

I had to look villain up ... and I'm generally good at spelling! There are some words I simply have difficulty with, although in general my spelling is very good ... obviously villain was one of them.

It's just because you have only had to spell it a handfull of times in your life.

I have to recheck villain when I spell it. I put the 'i' in the wrong place.

I was extremely dyslexic growing up. Now I's and E's tend to get mixed up and stuff.

Eileen B' and P's do it for me. Always had trouble with those. I feel so much better now that it's out in the open. : )

I even had to edit that.

and reading "Day of the Triffids" right now. Got "The Lost World" (Doyle) on deck.

Tolkien was an interesting read.

Still reading "The Hobbit" to my kids and started reading "The Lost World".. lining up the next read. Not sure what it'll be, maybe a good ole fashioned Sword and Sorcery Fantasy?

Finally got through the library books and started Point Of Impact (I've head it on my currently reading list for a week or more). Starting out well.

and I'm going to renew my endorsment of Event I re-read my own review and... that's what I wanted to say about it. I have voiced the things that others might not appriciate about it, but... I still liked it! So.. no more mister wishy-washy... well, probably... okay.. maybe.. no more...I'm sure this'll probably be the last flip-floppy sound.. could be sort of the end. I think.

I'm nearly done with Still Life with Crows by Preston and Child on audio at work. I loved it! Awesome read!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
I agree Jason, that was a good one.

message 122: by Jason, Gone but not forgotton (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 281 comments Mod
I think it would make a great movie! It's also got some really creepy scenes. It's my first Pendergast, and also my first Preston & Child. I'm a fan, now.

Have you listened to the audio, Mike? I thought Scott Brick did an incredible job!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
Yes, it's how I got into the Pendergast books (Relic is the first Pendergast book). I was getting them from the library in audio for my wife. I ended up listening to them either with her or after she was through with them.

I like the Pendergast books...can't say I'm a Preston/Child fan in general. LOL

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments A little more than half way finished with Devil Colony. A satisfying Rollins read so far.

I'm no expert, but according to my mother (also a pendergast book fan, she says that the third book is really where they start being pendergast books, the first two are practically stand alones.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
Well they intro him and you get to know characters who recur. I like Relic though I don't much care for Reliquary. I don't recall anything much that you'd need for story continuity though there is a reference back to it (Relic) in the last book Cold Vengeance.

message 127: by Jason, Gone but not forgotton (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 281 comments Mod
I'm pretty sure that I'll be reading the series after Still Life. I saw the movie for Relic a long time ago, but I'm certain it's much different than the book. lol

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
Movie's not much like the book. I would recommend that you not miss The Cabinet of Curiosities. I think it's the only one I gave 5 stars (my review if you're interested, I won't be insulted if you're not :http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...). It's Pendergast 3.

I'm reading Grimspace. I highly recommend it if you like Firefly or that sort of high adventure, low tech sci-fi universe motif.

Grimspace looks interesting Lady D, predictability my library doesn't have it. May try to get it through interlibrary loan. I hesitate to run out and buy it... :)

It's probably better to get it from the library in case you don't like it, Mike.

message 135: by Traci (new)

Traci Added to my list as well ;) I've been on the hunt for more science fiction to add to my reading.

I'm reading Revelation Space and Among Thieves. Among Thieves isn't a great book but it's a good filler for fans of books like The Lies of Locke Lamora.

message 136: by Lee (new)

Lee | 55 comments Up next, The House of Thunder by Dean Koontz

Found a copy written by Leigh Nichols, one of Koontz's alter egos, back in the day.

message 137: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Lee, you always seem to find and read interesting books.

Finishing up Sandstorm today, excellent read. Next on my list is The Lost World and Neverwhere

I'm reading Lethal Peopleby John Locke (along with The Lost World and The hobbit (with my kids))

Lethal people is cool, but the characters are dark. Kind of a dexter-like hero... or should I say, Protagonist? I'll put a review up when I finish.

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments It's hard to keep track of this series Hugh. Goodreads doesn't have them numbered like it does most series.

message 144: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Thanks for the info Alice and Hugh! I will definitely keep reading the series. Just finished Sandstorm, it was a lot of fun. Had to laugh when I heard the queen of sheba mentioned, that was my sisters nickname for me when I was little.
