M.A. Comley (melcom) Fingers crossed so far so good! ;-)

Hope you get your visa sorted soon, Patti. ;-(

message 403: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'll take my time with books 2 and 3 then. If I time it well maybe book 4 will be out when I'm done

message 404: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) LOL, Jud.

I've just received the devastating news that my dear friend and author LC Evans has passed away.

RIP Linda, you'll be sorely missed. ;-(

We're all here for you

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks Jud, I'm kind of numb at the moment! ;-(

*hug*

Really feel for you.

message 409: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks.

Back in April/May last year she and I had a conversation and it turned out her uncle was killed in the war and buried in the US cemetery near Omaha Beach. Her mother had never visited his grave so I asked if she wanted me to take photos and send them to her. She was over the moon and gave me the grave plot number.

Mum and I visited the cemetery and I took a video of the grave and the beautiful surroundings where he was buried. She was overjoyed and thanked me on the kindleboards in the US and said it was a fantastic gesture for me to do for a complete stranger.

I uploaded the video to youtube and her mother was in tears... and now she's gone too! ;-(

message 410: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Aww Mel. I'm so sorry. Big hug from me too.

Just goes to show the simplest of kind gestures can mean so much. Your effort of making the video means that you can feel a bit better about things, knowing that you brought a bit of joy before they passed on.

message 411: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thank Patti, I try my best to always put others first, I always have. On the odd occasion it backfires on me though.

I suppose we all can't be classed as one of life's givers! ;-(

I'm happy to be in that bracket though. ;-)

message 412: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments So sorry to hear that Mel. It always hurts to lose a friend.

message 413: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks Ignite, it certainly is. ;-)

message 414: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Hey Mel hope you're doing ok :o)

I was just wondering about what research you did for your book, particularly on the forensic science/pathology side? Did you have a contact on the inside that you could ask or was it more library research?

message 415: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Mostly research on the net, Jud, but I do run everything past a friend's husband who used to be in the police. He works at a security firm in Hong Kong now.

Thanks for the great review. xx

Thanks Jud. xx

message 419: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not just a great writer but rather prolific, too, is our Mel.

Bit soft though. ;)

message 420: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yea, but we still love her

message 421: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah. I love mushy.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Mushy bananas?

message 423: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hi GL!

Mushy bananas on toast! With a small sprinkle of brown sugar, of course.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yummy, or a drizzle of maple syrup...

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Sorry to hear about your friend Mel.Take care.xxx

So sorry to read this. I enjoyed her books greatly.

message 427: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) It's very sad, Pat, LC was an exceptional writer.

Hey guys, you'll never guess what my first solids were as a baby. Yep, mashed nana! My favourite fruit today, but I refuse to eat them in company! lol

;-)

message 428: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments All I know from being a kid was that I would end up most of the time with my plate over my head :)

message 429: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm craving a nana shake for some reason...

message 430: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) That's strange Lorraine, care to enlighten us?

Yum, banana anything! ;-) Muffins, split the list is endless.

message 431: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yea apparently I prefered my greens to nourish my hair, not my stomach... maybe that's why my hair is in such good condition nowadays ;)

message 432: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) LOL! Sounds about right, hon. ;-)

message 433: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I had a wonderful message from a stranger on FB today. OK she said anagrams, I think she meant acronyms! ;-)

I am reading your DI Simpkins books and enjoying them (even if I prefer paranormal books) Would it be too much trouble to explain some British anagrams? I know that
DI is Detective investigator
DCI is Detective Chief Investigator
but MI SOCO and some others I can't even find on the internet.
MI will tell me Michigan or MI from MIT if I go far enough
SOCO is Southern California
I don't think you meant these. Can you explain to this dumb yank and maybe give a hint to help other foreigners in future books?

I also am in my 40's (43) and I congratulate you turning your hobby into a career! I write also but am not very good at it. Looking forward to reading more of your mysteries and romances if you ever want to add the paranormal!

Guess I need to make a note to add these to the front of the book for our American readers. ;-)

message 434: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning, darling!

Ya know, that's a good point. Guess I've been around Brits and read enough that I've picked up on most Britishisms.

I still get faced with one I've not heard before sometimes, mind.

So what makes 'paranormal' thing?

Is there a common element that makes a story 'paranormal'?

message 435: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Linda Prather's books are excellent. She's a paranormal investigator in real life and adds a paranormal twist to her books. Her MCs are all psychics. I'm proofing her latest book for her and it's phenomenal!

Look out for an email soon Patti. ;-)

message 436: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ready and waiting, darling!

message 437: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) ;-) sent

message 438: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The second one hasn't found my kindle yet! Argh!

message 439: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) oh no!!!

message 440: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Both of them on my kindle now. YAY!

Did you see my comment about my bananas rotting while we were away?

I'm gutted. Such a waste. :(

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments That would drive you bananas. Oh wait, too late...

message 442: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) oh no! Sorry been busy writing, no time to play lately! ;-(

The supermarkets over here refrigerate their bananas so by the end of the week they're all black! I like mine firm! lol

Stupid French supermarket managers, I could tell them a thing or two! ;-)

message 443: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments The English one do that too Mel :(

message 444: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm always put off that the eggs in the UK aren't kept chilled in the shops. You'd never see eggs sat on a shelf in Canada.

I like my nanas firm too, Mel. ;)

message 445: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Complain Lorraine, they should never be refrigerated. ;-)

So I've heard, Patti! lol

message 446: by Jud (last edited Jan 16, 2012 09:28AM) (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Egg's aren't meant to be kept in the fridge though, you are meant to keep them in a wee tub all on their own anywhere you want but not in the fridge.

Thats what those wee hen shaped crockery dishes are for.

message 447: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments but never heard of banana's being refrigerated before. YUCK

I like mine a little bit green

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Me too Jud

message 449: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Me three! ;-)

message 450: by Jud (new)
