Always feel free to rant here. I will probably wait a couple days before I go see the Potter movie.

message 702: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Let me know when you've seen it! I want to discuss. Nobody else has seen it yet.

message 703: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Potter was so much fun, my 16 yr old and I have been seeing them on opening day since the first one. I got the audio tapes for her when she was to intimidated by the books as they got a little more mature for her reading level. I was disapointed when they screwed with our holiday tradition by moving it for Twilights release, but to sum it up, it was worth the wait!

message 704: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah geez, I've heard nothing but good things about it, now I'm getting anxious to go see it.

message 705: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Saw Amelie this evening. A delightful movie. Just delightful. Anyone ever seen it? Sally, you must have seen it.

message 706: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments You just now saw it for the first time, Larry? Delightful is a good word for it, yes!

message 707: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments I love Amelie. I love Audrey Tautou.

message 708: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I think I love her, too.

message 709: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments She's got a purdy mouth.

message 710: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
That's one of my favorite movies, Larry. I watch it over and over.

message 711: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I kind of figured that.

message 712: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I saw The Hangover tonight. I had sky high expectations and was not disappointed. Also, Bradley Cooper is hot, man. I can see why the ladies and gay men dig him.

By the way, I saw the movie in a creepy, decrepit theater near Jamestown, NY, in one of those deserted malls that makes you think of zombies.

message 713: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 158 comments I saw The Hangover a few weeks ago. I didnt think it was going to be that good but was pleasantly surprised. Very funny...

message 714: by Cosmic Sher (last edited Jul 21, 2009 01:17AM) (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments I've got to see The Hangover, among many others that I haven't been able to go see this summer. (sigh)

But, we did just watch two pretty good movies on pay-per-view. Inkheart with Brendan Fraiser, which was much better than I thought it would be for a young adult movie, and Push with Dakota Fanning & Chris Evans, which was a good, reality-with-a-bit-of-supernatural-thrown-in kind of story. Kind of along the lines of Heroes... but not as hyped.

message 715: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Re-watched Mansfield Park, The Forbidden Kingdom and One Night with the King. Love the latter. Baltar's actor has the best voice - deep and gutteral. Very different from his BSG days.

As far as TV goes...stuck on I Survived a Japanese Gameshow.

message 716: by [deleted user] (new)

I just watched Push and thought that it was a pretty decent movie.

message 717: by [deleted user] (new)

Amelie is one of my ten favorite films ever.

Frost/Nixon is sitting on top of my TV...I really want to see this film, but I'm having a hard time making time to see it.

message 718: by [deleted user] (new)

I just watched Push and thought that it was a pretty decent movie. Like CS said it had a nice mix of super natural (Human) and normal day thrown together.

message 719: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherjoy) | 384 comments Recent movies I've seen are The Proposal, Public Enemies, The Hangover, and naturally HP6. I liked them all with the exception of Public Enemies. I guess my expectations were to high for that particular film.

message 720: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Gus - Watch it! I thought Frost/Nixon was excellent.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Gus wrote: "Amelie is one of my ten favorite films ever."

Gus likes Amelie because she reminds him of me.

I just made that up (I made up the reason part, I mean. He really does say she reminds him of me).

message 722: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I promised my ten year old we'd go see Transformers tonight. We went. He loved it. I feel like I need a shower to wash off the awful stink of that movie.

message 723: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) What a good dad.

message 724: by [deleted user] (new)

I had to do that to a Pokemon movie once RA, I feel your pain.

message 725: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ha...thanks, Larry. And Jim, Pokemon was worse, I'm sure. This movie, at least, had Megan Fox.

Actually, Heidi's partially right. I recommended that movie to her based on that fact that Amelie does remind me of Heidi, and vice versa. I can totally see Heidi doing some of the things Amelie does.

Sarah, I did finally see Frost/Nixon last night. Frank Langella was mesmerizing as Nixon. Terrific movie!

message 727: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments You would expect it to be dry and cerebral, but it wasn't. Glad you liked it :)

message 728: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I want to see that, too. Note to self: add to Netflix.

message 729: by [deleted user] (new)

The DVD of Frost/Nixon has a feature that compares the film's interviews to the real interviews; the attention to detail and to the real interviews themselves is first-rate.

I'd like to see the actual interviews; I know they're available somewhere.

message 730: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Google it Gus..

message 731: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Saw 500 Days of Summer tonight. Very cute - a little too cute almost. Sort of treading a Pushing Daisies line, complete with voiceover. Zooey Deschanel was a little too Zooey Deschanel, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt rescued it with charm and panache. Great soundtrack, and a couple of fabulous scenes.

message 732: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Don't diss that first Pokemon movie!! I loved the lil eggy character :(

j/k but I do like Eggy.

Saw Megume at an event co-sponsored by the Embassy of Japan. ADORED! Who knew that a movie could deliver a mini-vacation.

message 733: by [deleted user] (new)

Seriously Tanja that first Pokemon movie sucked, and that's the nicest word a can think of.

message 734: by Usako (last edited Jul 23, 2009 01:11PM) (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) I was joking! ^.^ Except that I do like the eggy character. Something about its silly simplicity zones me out. It's the happiness felt when the Philsbury Dough Boy's belly button is poked.

message 735: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 158 comments RA- I saw Transformers the other night also...was not too impressed

Sarah- I want to see 500 Days of Summer. I saw the preview yesterday...I just need to find a theater around here playingn it.

message 736: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 347 comments We went to go see Drag Me To Hell last night. It was just as delightedly campy and gross as I hoped it would be, a fine return to form for Sam Raimi who has toiled in mediocrity too long with his Spider-Man movies.

message 737: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 158 comments Logan, I saw that a month or two ago. @ first I wasnt sure about whether I liked it or not because of the end but all-in-all I thought it was pretty good.

message 738: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments I want to know when Shelock Holmes became a ninja warrior, and a feal ladies man?

message 739: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Debating seeing Treeless Mountain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1143155/) tonight or booking it for home to unwind from long work week.

message 740: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I finally saw Star Trek. Man, that movie was way better than I expected. Very well done.

message 741: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Just watched Coraline with the kids, way weird, but very Tim Burton, I guess I liked it

message 742: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments Trying to figure out where I can watch 500 Days of Summer. I'm glad you liked it, Sarah Pi. After seeing the trailers, I was very tentatively excited for it. With what looks like a musical interlude, it seemed like it would either be either completely off or fantastic.

Watched The Great Mouse Detective! Used to watch this one religiously as a child of ~3 years, but rewatching it now, I'm amazed I understood the plot at all. Mini-Sherlock Basil used words that were definitely too big for a non-English-speaking kid.

message 743: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I saw Benny & Jun tonight for the first time. I know, I'm WAY behind the curve.

It was cute. Visually pleasing. Heart warming.

Not great, but good.

message 744: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the 90's Larry.

message 745: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yeah thanks.

message 746: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I think that Johnny Depp fellow could go on to do some interesting stuff.

message 747: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) He just might.

message 748: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherjoy) | 384 comments I saw The Ugly Truth this weekend and I rented a movie this weekend called Defiance. Both were really good.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I saw the Harry Potter movie yesterday. It was good, I loved Ron under the influence of the love potion especially!
But there was so much left out, of course - it's a huuuuuge book, and there was a bit too much emphasis on showy special effects. And as in the book, we're left with an unfinished feeling.

message 750: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I saw HP this weekend also, Jackie. I loved it. :) Then again, I had an 8 year old on my lap asking me to explain this and that throughout the movie... and her mother was sitting next to me texting/facebooking on her phone during the whole dang movie (same one who did that during The Hangover)... I'd like to see it again by myself so I won't have any distractions.

I also watched Tropic Thunder and Waltz with Bashir. I could've done without Tropic Thunder. In fact, I'm sure there's a reason I fell asleep while attempting to watch it the first time.

Waltz with Bashir was amazing. I was like "Whoa. Whoa. WHOA. Wow." It wasn't at all what I was expecting (I'm typically not a fan of apocalyptic, war, and/or comic features), and it far exceeded the expectations I did have. I was just mesmerized. The art direction, the graphics, the music, the story... all entrancing. GO SEE IT! Go see it NOW!!!
