It was cute. Visually pleasing. Heart warming.
Not great, but good."
Is that the one where Depp plays autistic Charlie Chaplin?

I wonder, did he and Ledger ever do anything together?I wanted them to do Brother's Grimm together but that didn't happen.

Weren't they working together with Gilliam when he died? That movie is still coming out last I heard.

On another note has any one seen this most terrible mover ever, "The Romm"? It sound like it's this era's Rocky Horror, which was awesome on so many levels.
Hey! What's for dinner?!
I watched Seven Pounds saturday night, and I really liked it. I like most of Will Smith's recent movies, and although this wasn't his best effort, the plot carried the movie anyway.
I went to 500 Days of Summer yesterday, and I enjoyed it too. I didn't think that Zooey Deschanel was all that bad, but she was very Zooey. If you want to score points with the wife this is a pretty decent movie.
Now for the best part. My wife is close to the straightest person that I know. So I dared her to play the penis game when we drove into our subdivision. She rolled down the window and yelled at the top of her lungs. It may have been the most out of character thing she's ever done. I had to let her win.

My daughter Sophia's become obsessed with Toy Story. We've watched it from beginning to end 8 times since Saturday. Believe me, I'm not complaining, because I love that movie. I've been told kids will latch on to one movie and want to watch it over and over and over and over and over again.
I also saw Gran Torino last night. Gotta hand it to Clint; he can take a story that's prone to cliche and melodrama and mold it into a fascinating, compassionate film. His directing was outstanding, but it was his performance as a bigoted Korean War vet who, against his better judgment, protects his Hmong neighbors against a ruthless gang, was Oscar-worthy. If it's true that this will be his last acting role, Eastwood's gone out with a stellar performance.

I wasn't quite as enamored with the movie as you Gus. Clint's acting was good, but the premise that he would go out of his way to help Hmongs after disliking them for so long seems difficult for me to embrace.
However Toy Story is a great movie.

I bought the transformation.

I'm looking forward to Clint's rugby-and-Mandela movie, though I have yet to be sold on Matt Damon in the team captain's role.
I'm enjoying Pineapple Express today while I work on some final revisions.
Here's what I've learned so far:

I saw The Time Traveler's Wife tonight. Wow--it was so good and so sad! They did a really good job staying with the book, although of course they eliminated the sub-plots and stuck with the main story. I cried so much. People all over the theater were sniffling. I cried through the whole last part of the book, too, so no big surprise there. Bring the whole box of tissues if you go!

I also watched Mystery Men. I remembered thinking that it looked goofy/stupid when I watched the trailer back when it was scheduled to come out. However, I was at the library perusing the kids' movies (one of my favorite things to do - peruse the family films - they typically have some really great stuff there) when I noticed Tom Waits was a featured cast member and I just HAD to see it just for him. The movie was surprisingly great - superbly cast, lots of familiar faces. I was wondering what about the project drew all the star power it had, though, because as cute as it was, it wasn't spectacular.

I both love and hate Coffee and Cigarettes. The vignettes I loved were the Iggy/Tom Waits conversation - an absolute masterpiece in awkwardness! - and the Steve Coogan/Alfred Molina piece. Steve Coogan is utterly hilarious, and it's a shame he's not more well-known here in America, but I'm hoping that will change.
I liked the bit with Jack and Meg White. It played very well on the notion of Jack and Meg supposedly being siblings. The Cate Blanchett bit worked well, too.
Totally hated the Roberto Begnini/Steven Wright bit. The RZA/GZA/Bill Murray piece tried too hard to be funny and relevant, but it just didn't work.
Actually, my love/hate of this film reflects my love/hate for Jim Jarmusch. Totally love films like Dead Man, Strangers in Paradise and Down by Law, largely indifferent to Broken Flowers, and hated Mystery Train and Night on Earth.

Roberto Benigni should not be allowed on camera, in my opinion.

I still don't remember the character...but I haven't seen that since it came out.

It was very well done. Anyone else see it? I give ****1/2 out of *****.
