Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Looks like I scored 400. They based it on 300 for screen would be 400 paper, since people read slower electronically in general, so I just estimated up. I think Im a fast reader but like many of you slow down sometimes on purpose and if the book is dull

message 252: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Marae In high school I once read an 800 page book in 24 hours but nowadays it takes me a week or so to get through a book. I read very quickly but I don't sit down to actually read often. I get too caught up in video games and my stupid iphone. :(

message 253: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinpickell) | 1298 comments I think I fit in the middle. I tend to get through books quickly, but usually it's because I budget them i guess. I set a goal of 1/4 or 1/2 of the book by a set time. If I get into the book, I tend to finish it. Other times I find reading even a few chapter tiring & feel like 2 days have gone by, not just a half hour or less.

OTOH, sometimes I breeze through 4-5 books in 2-3 days, but then feel drained or bored when I pick up a title I really want to read & go through a brief dry spell & avoid reading for a few days until I have to read again to be sane. Maybe this doesn't make sense, lol.

message 254: by Megan (new)

Megan It depends on the length of the book and how interesting it is. I can read fast, but sometimes I feel like I missed a few lines.

message 255: by Casey (new)

Casey Hays | 11 comments I read fast, but I choose to slow down when the book is really good so I can savor all the great parts.

message 256: by [deleted user] (new)

I tend to read somewhat slowly, because of my work and writing schedule, but if I'm really into a book, I just can't put it down.

message 257: by Penny (new)

Penny Raspenny I definately read fast. And when I come over a really tense paragraph, I immediately reread it just to savor the feeling!

message 258: by Dr. Andy (new)

Dr. Andy I read fast once a book has captured my attention. Then nothing else becomes important besides the book. Not even sleep!!!

message 259: by Tricia (new)

Tricia I read fairly quickly when actually reading, how fast I actually get through the book depends on whether I like it or not and how info dense it is. Even if a book is brilliant if every sentence you're learning something than I like to take a break and absorb what I read.

message 260: by JS (new)

JS | 13 comments Fast....depending on the book. If I'm really into it I can read it in 2 days but if it's semi decent then it will take me at least a week. Sometimes I'm guilty of reading way to fast. Once I've noticed I have no clue of what's going on, I have to go back an reread it again! Lol! But I think I'm getting better at it!

message 261: by Eric (new)

Eric James-Olson | 25 comments As an English teacher with 5 classes, I have to keep up with the novels that my students are reading. Still, I read slowly, especially with good books. There is always more to see when one takes his time.

message 262: by L.G. (new)

L.G. Estrella | 8 comments Fast. I can get through a book that I like in a day, if I feel the need. I got through Brandon Sanderson's Warkbreaker in about a day. If I really want to savour a book - that is, if I find the prose truly beautiful - then I'll slow right down to take it all in. I also love reading a book aloud if the prose really gets to me.

message 263: by J.J. (new)

J.J. Baine (jjbaine) | 5 comments I tend to be kind of a slow reader given the dyzleseximaifnia which is basically impossible to spell.

message 264: by Natasha (new)

Natasha House (natashahouse) | 24 comments You guys all make me feel slow!! I have a full time job and I'm an author as well, so I mostly read on my breaks or a little at night. It depends on how big the books are, but I get through 1 a week sometimes 2 at the most. When I'm editing, my reading goes down to like 1 or 2 books a month. Editing takes up all my brain time!! Haha

message 265: by Natasha (new)

Natasha House (natashahouse) | 24 comments Gracie wrote: "It depends. Right now my reading has slowed considerably since I'm buried in a WIP of my own. Usually I can go through an average-sized (400 pages) novel within a week, especially if it's fast-pace..."

I do that too! I always read multiple books at the same time! I think it's cause I like the variety of styles. I sometimes like "easy" reading, and other times I want something all crazy detailed.

message 266: by James (new)

James Caterino (jimcaterino) | 4 comments Relatively slow. Usually I am reading 2 to 3 books at the same time and finish them up in about a month to six weeks. If I am reading one book only, about two weeks, but it varies. I read "Divergent" in about a week but a big fat John Jake's type historical epic (which I love) can take months depending on how much I have going on. I also read a lot comic books and graphic novels and take my time with them to absorb the visuals and take in the artwork. I think sometimes the book itself dictates the best pace to read at, at least for me.

message 267: by Akemi (new)

Akemi Sato (akemi831sato) | 4 comments Modesty aside,I'm an abnormally fast reader...I remember reading The Hunger Games trilogy straight for like...4 hours or something...when I read a book with a friend they usually just notice that while they just finished the 2nd or 3rd chapter of the book, I'm already in the middle....

message 268: by [deleted user] (new)

Depends on the author really and if it has a interesting plot - so mostly fast

Caitlin Lillie (kiwibookworm) | 18 comments Akemi wrote: "Modesty aside,I'm an abnormally fast reader...I remember reading The Hunger Games trilogy straight for like...4 hours or something...when I read a book with a friend they usually just notice that w..."

Yeah, it's the same for me. My friend loaned me a book and I gave it back to her the next day.
"Oh no, don't worry, you can finish it!"
"Uh, I already have..."

message 270: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) I am a very fast reader if the story interests me enough and I have the time to read. Working full time, going to school, and finding time to spend with my hubby definitely detracts from my reading time, but I still manage to get through around six books a month.

On average, it takes me a day or two to read a 400+ page book, so I'd say that's pretty quick.

message 271: by Lina (new)

Lina (linaaa1) | 15 comments I consider myself a slow reader.
I can read about 100 pages in an hour, so a book of 800 pages I finish in like a week or so.

message 272: by Abi (new)

Abi (ablissa) | 21 comments I'm a pretty fast reader, but not in the sense that I skip words, but in the sense that I read every word but really quickly and I will sit there for hours, just reading, whether the book is boring or not. with most books I finish them in no more than three days, just because I'd prefer to read all night rather than sleep.

message 273: by E.G. (new)

E.G. Manetti (thornraven) Fast. I always seem to finish first when doing a buddy-read.

message 274: by Heather (new)

Heather Kirchhoff | 3 comments I'd say that it depends on the book. If it's really good then I think I read it faster than one that's not as good.

message 275: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Learn (dalearn) I can read a 300 to 400 page book in a day offshore between work on lunches and tea breaks and a few hours at night. Slightly longer books if I have more time. I love reading an entire book on a lazy Saturday between house chores... No clue if that is fast or slow. Sometimes depends on the tone of the book.

message 276: by Carol (new)

Carol (blackamethyst) | 14 comments Depends on the book if it's really good I read fast and if it's really bad I read it slow

message 277: by Wilmar (new)

Wilmar Luna (wilmarluna) | 100 comments I'm in the same boat as Carol but with only a few exceptions. I'm really enjoying Game of Thrones, but even at my fastest reading speed it's still taking me a year to finish the 1st four books.

Though, to be fair I did start off thinking the 1st one was incredibly boring, so it did take me a while to warm up to it.

message 278: by Dino (new)

Dino Costi For me it depends on the book - not in regard to its quality, but rather to its style. LOTR is my favourite book, but I tend to read it slowly because the novel itself moves at a slow pace and is description-heavy. This is fine because it builds up an incredible atmosphere along the way, so its probably best that you don't skim through it to get the full experience.

Conversely there are the 'page-turners', which I tend to read through as fast as I can to find out what happens next and how it finishes. These are good while they last, but they tend to be the type I forget about once I've finished reading them. Anyone else feel the same?

message 279: by Nila (new)

Nila (dearnila) If its a really good book then I can finish it in one day. If its a book I'm not really interested in, then five days. But I mostly finish my books in two to three days.

message 280: by Suzy (last edited Jan 13, 2015 10:43AM) (new)

Suzy | 83 comments Well.. I can read a 400+ paged book in one day if I'm really enjoying it (like I did the other day) but I'm quite slow when it comes to larger books because I don't want to miss anything out, for example; I'm reading A Game of Thrones right now and because it's over 800 pages I'm pacing myself so I don't miss anything important. And smaller books I can read 2-3 a day! So yeah, I'm a fast reader. When I was 7 at school they would make us read a book infront of a small group and the amount of times I was told to slow down while reading was insane lol! And my reading challenge this year is 200 books :)

message 281: by Kara (new)

Kara Skinner (Lover's Quarrel Reviews) | 15 comments Wow, I'm a seriously slow reader. I finish about two or three books a month on average unless it's a really short book or a day off :) I've been thinking of taking a speed-reading course, though because I have so many books to read and I want to buy more guilt-free.

message 282: by Nikki (new)

Nikki | 38 comments I'm considered a fast reader I guess, most of my family consider me a fast reader from an early age I read and ever since I've not put a book down lol, I have 3 young children and still manage to read a book a day (usually 300 pages plus) that's fitting it in whilst cooking dinner, after chores, homework, school runs, nursery runs and amusing the kiddies. I don't skim read though I read properly my mum when I was younger used to time me to prove to me I was a fast reader lol one time she clocked me at doing 10 pages in 2 minutes I swear she was lying though because when I read it doesn't feel that fast.

I often complete books within a day so I average 1 book a day but days where I get kid free I have been known to do 4 books. I'm an avid reader though I love books I lose myself in them like its a whole other world and I love being about to do it

message 283: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Kuttner | 10 comments I'm a bit of both. If it is a good book, I start slowly getting a feel for who's who and the writer's style. Then as the action or intrigue heats up I tend to get faster and faster until the kindle pages are changing without me consciously pushing the button (or swiping on my phone). In the old days it was book pages turning without me noticing - which is even more astonishing as you have to flip the whole thing in front of your nose. The book just gets gobbled up - it's like my mind starts to take in whole sentences at a time. Does anyone else do this?

message 284: by C.D. (new)

C.D. Gorri (cdgorri) | 10 comments Fast!!

message 285: by Soph ♡ (new)

Soph ♡ I always thought I was a fast reader until I joined GR! People are either really fast readers or they have a lot of reading time on their hands!

Of Butterflies & Books For me, I feel like I'm generally a slow reader, but it depends on the book. If I'm really into the book then it might be a different story.

message 287: by Faith (new)

Faith McKay (faithmckay) | 23 comments Slow. I re-read sentences and pages I really like, which definitely adds to my time.

Gnome Claire *Wishes she was as cool as Gnome Ann* Fast- I really have difficultly putting books down (even if I hate it with a vengeance I still want to know how it finishes) and I have a terrible habit of starting a book a few hours before bedtime thinking I'll put it down half way through and then ending up going to bed a few hours late after finishing the book.

message 289: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephieja) | 42 comments I'm a fast reader. I hate it when my husband and I are reading the same thing on T.V. I seems like it takes him forever to finish and it drives me nuts!

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I would say I am a fast reader. I am not a speed reader by any means, but I am not slow. It usually takes me three to four days to finish a book. :)
