As much as I hated Prim's death, I think it was necessary because it was the reason Katniss turned on Coin, which pretty much set the ending for the entire series.

I really hated Prim's death, too, but as was pointed out, Prim's death was the final straw that led Katniss to kill Coin.

Rant over. :)

Maybe Finnick's death would have been worthwhile if Collins had spent a little more time writing about his final stand. Readers would have been able to sympathize and truly mourn over his death, instead of thinking "Oh, Finnick's dead?" and then quickly reading about the next obstacle. Katniss didn't even seem to care a large amount about Finnick's death.
He wasn't a character in my mind that should have died. He had finally become happy with Annie, and yes, that would make him a natural kill, but he wasn't even a featured character anymore.

I agree i didn't even remember he died!

I absolutley agree with you! Susan Collins didn't need to kill Finnick and/or Prim.

but I'm biased because I love him and didn't want to him to die. However, Collins wanted it to happen, so it had too. Tell me, do you guys feel like any of the deaths in Harry Potter were unnecessary? Let's face J.k Rowling was like "...I have to...kill them all."
She broke my heart...
Finnick, because him dying didn't help the story, while Prim dying did.
Prim, I cried during that part. She was my favorite character.

For a moment I thought that nobody's going to think about Cinna's death. he was such a strong character and great emotional pillar for Katniss. I rally think that he shouldn't have died, just like Finnick or Prim. deaths just for the fun of it and it wasn't interesting to read those part.

But awful, just awful...

I agree with others here who said Cinna and Finnik

Don't get me wrong I cried my little eyes out when Prim died but I understood why Collins killed everyone off. I think this ending would have been more well received if the series was adult rather than young adult.

I was also surprised by that, initially. but, then I was thinking that rue was the first person that katniss had to watch die (at least the first one that she cared about)...just think about how many other people katniss had seen die by the time of prim's death- I think that by then she just didn't have the emotional capacity that she went into the games with.

I think finnick's death was necessary to show that the good guys get killed in inglorious ways.
I think prim's death was necessary to show that what katniss helped achieve for panem was more important than saving the life of one girl.

I completly agree!

so true, I wish she didn't kill him.

Prim's death was aweful, but it made Katniss relize that what's her name doesn't really care about anything except power. If katniss hadn't killed her then their society wouldn't be any better.

I totaly agree. They were both ahocking and heartbreaking...
