Rhianna Finnick

message 2: by Alex (last edited Dec 30, 2011 12:11AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alex Sosa Finnick Odair (one of my favorite characters in THG)... He died just like that. No one seemed to care about it. If he was meant to die, the least we could expect was a memorable scene... His death was just dumb. I'm glad Collins didn't kill Johanna (my other favorite character).

Charlotte Finnick and Prim!

message 4: by Pip (new) - rated it 4 stars

Pip Definitely Finnick, I can see what Collins was trying to achieve with his sudden death, but it seemed unnecessary all the same :(

message 5: by AJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

AJ I absolutely agree with you all - Finnick - why?? I just don't see the point!

As much as I hated Prim's death, I think it was necessary because it was the reason Katniss turned on Coin, which pretty much set the ending for the entire series.

Susan Finnick's death was completely unnecessary. Even in the over-arching idea of Katniss as the hero who must finish the journey alone, Finnick didn't have to be sacrificed to satisfy the plot.

I really hated Prim's death, too, but as was pointed out, Prim's death was the final straw that led Katniss to kill Coin.

alexa michaela ☻ Prim's death was the most devastating :((

Mochaspresso Isn't it ironic that we readers seem much more deeply affected by Finnick's death than the characters themselves? That is why I didn't like Finnick's death in the book. I don't profess to be a great novelist by any stretch, but I do think that the author missed an opportunity at pulling an emotional chord with the readers. His death made me feel angry at the characters when I should have been empathizing with them for the loss of their friend. I think Finnick's death should have been given more time in the book and been more emotional. I can't figure out why it was so rushed in the novel and why the characters weren't more affected by it. I understand that they were under duress at that moment and had to keep moving....but the characters could have been given some emotion or reaction. There was hardly anything from them. If I were the editor, I would have made Miss Collins go back and rework that chapter.

Rant over. :)

Grace Finnick.

Maybe Finnick's death would have been worthwhile if Collins had spent a little more time writing about his final stand. Readers would have been able to sympathize and truly mourn over his death, instead of thinking "Oh, Finnick's dead?" and then quickly reading about the next obstacle. Katniss didn't even seem to care a large amount about Finnick's death.

He wasn't a character in my mind that should have died. He had finally become happy with Annie, and yes, that would make him a natural kill, but he wasn't even a featured character anymore.

Charlotte yeah I didn't understand if he was dead or what, I was like narr she wouldn't kill him (the author), hes just got a wife! well I was wrong...

I agree i didn't even remember he died!

Rebecca W. Memolly96 wrote: "Finnick and Prim!"

I absolutley agree with you! Susan Collins didn't need to kill Finnick and/or Prim.

3m!ly i think finnick cuz he had just married annie and then boom! annies single again.

Julie Prim and Finnick. Prim especially because if she was gonna die anyway, what was the point of the story?!! Well, besides killing Snow and overthrowing the Capital. Finnick just because it wasnt needed!!!

Laurie Finnick and Prim's deaths are one of the main reason I didn't like this book as much, It was just a messy slaped together book. Oh and I completely agree with Julie Prims dead so what was the point of the story

3m!ly thats a good way 2 describe it

Shula Prim and Finnick!

message 20: by Shay (new) - rated it 5 stars

Shay Finick...

but I'm biased because I love him and didn't want to him to die. However, Collins wanted it to happen, so it had too. Tell me, do you guys feel like any of the deaths in Harry Potter were unnecessary? Let's face J.k Rowling was like "...I have to...kill them all."

She broke my heart...

Caitie Finnick :'( I nearly cried when i read that part! He was one of my fav characters. :'''''(

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Finnick, because him dying didn't help the story, while Prim dying did.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Prim, I cried during that part. She was my favorite character.

Roman I truly think that finnicks death was not needed because it didnt contribute to the story and hes a fan favorite.(thanks collins you really made me angry at your dumb dicision to kill finnick) p.us i agree with everyone else when it comes to his quick death. there shoul have been more emotion to it not just another mindless kill (excuse the spelling) XD

Kinga Roman wrote: "I truly think that finnicks death was not needed because it didnt contribute to the story and hes a fan favorite.(thanks collins you really made me angry at your dumb dicision to kill finnick) p.us..."

For a moment I thought that nobody's going to think about Cinna's death. he was such a strong character and great emotional pillar for Katniss. I rally think that he shouldn't have died, just like Finnick or Prim. deaths just for the fun of it and it wasn't interesting to read those part.

message 26: by AJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

AJ Yeah I forgot about Cinna, that was awful! I think that one had meaning though, it was an extra message to Katniss just before she went into the ring that the Capital were in control.
But awful, just awful...

Zarnaz prim and finnik!!!!!!:((((((((

Zarnaz and cinna

message 29: by Kjom (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kjom Cinna and Finnik:(

Karen It was surprising to me at how Rue's death and welfare was agonized over in the first book, while Prim's death was glossed over by comparison. It did not evoke the emotion that the first book did and I wouldn't have expected that.

I agree with others here who said Cinna and Finnik

Ruthanne Cianna and FINNICK!

3m!ly Finnick especially

Whitney Finnick, Cinna, Prim

Emily D I think all of the deaths were necessary. I know I'm in the minority but Suzanne Collins wrote this series to show what happens during war. The loss of people you love, acquaintances and how people deal with the aftermath of those deaths.

Don't get me wrong I cried my little eyes out when Prim died but I understood why Collins killed everyone off. I think this ending would have been more well received if the series was adult rather than young adult.

Mallory Finnick and Prim

Kirby Karen wrote: "It was surprising to me at how Rue's death and welfare was agonized over in the first book, while Prim's death was glossed over by comparison. It did not evoke the emotion that the first book did ..."

I was also surprised by that, initially. but, then I was thinking that rue was the first person that katniss had to watch die (at least the first one that she cared about)...just think about how many other people katniss had seen die by the time of prim's death- I think that by then she just didn't have the emotional capacity that she went into the games with.

Kirby I think cinna's death was necessary for katniss to embrace her role as the mockingjay.

I think finnick's death was necessary to show that the good guys get killed in inglorious ways.

I think prim's death was necessary to show that what katniss helped achieve for panem was more important than saving the life of one girl.

Chelsea Clifton I feel like everyone agrees that Finnick's death was devastating, whether or not they think it was necessary. Is anyone here a HP fan? Because when Collins says that Katniss includes a picture of Finnick and Annies baby in her deathbook, I felt like "it's lupin and tonks all over again.. Cept tonks isn't dead, just mentally unstable." That's why Finnick's death was so hard for me to take.

Rimsha Salam Finnick and Prim

3m!ly i agree

Charlotte Diana wrote: "Finnick. I think at this point, she goes a little overboard with the killing of characters."

I completly agree!

message 44: by Lorn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lorn Definitely Finnick... :'(

Sancando i definitely think that the Finnick's death was unnecessary and Collins din't really seem to express any sorrow about his death. Though when they talk about Annie and his child it is a lot more heartfelt. She should have left one really happy couple at the end of the story.

so true, I wish she didn't kill him.

Elizabeth Rund Memolly96 wrote: "Finnick and Prim!"

Prim's death was aweful, but it made Katniss relize that what's her name doesn't really care about anything except power. If katniss hadn't killed her then their society wouldn't be any better.

Nya Tomlinson-Horan-Malik-Payne-Styles definitely, hands down, finnick and prim.

Elizabeth Rund Nya wrote: "definitely, hands down, finnick and prim."

I totaly agree. They were both ahocking and heartbreaking...
