Renee Nicole | 30 comments Thank you, Lady D! Peruvian food is a little like typical Spanish food, but with a few more ingredients.

Ceviche is a really popular Peruvian dish, which is different types of raw fish, usually with a citrus-y zing. Their main dishes tend to involve marinated red meats with different types of chilies, sometimes with fries or potatoes all mixed up together (yum!).

Thanks for the information, Renee. I know ceviche is common in Mexican cuisine as well. I'm all for chilies and potatoes/fries, so that works for me!

How is everybody's week going so far? It's so nice and cool this evening. If this weather continues, it will definitely feel like the advent of fall.

message 108: by Duchess Nicole (new)

Duchess Nicole | 154 comments It's beautiful here in Fort Worth! I actually turned off the AC today, opened the windows, and let the house air out!

It's so nice to be able to open the windows, isn't it. We have been able to do that since last week. I miss the fresh air.

I love it! Fall is easily my favorite season. Are you from the midwest?

I've never been to Texas :/

Yes, I was born in Illinois. Lived there until I was 14. I miss the autumn and winters, and the food!

Texas is a great place, but awful hot in the summer!

message 116: by Duchess Nicole (new)

Duchess Nicole | 154 comments I'm originally from Kansas. I miss the snow! It hardly seems like winter down here. I'd love to travel east during the fall...somewhere with lots of trees!

I feel the same way, Duchess. I really miss white winters. It doesn't feel the same when it's hot on Christmas and New Years.

message 123: by Rachel the Book Harlot (last edited Sep 21, 2012 01:09PM) (new)

Rachel the Book Harlot | 217 comments Happy Friday to you too, Lady D! It will be a quiet Friday for me since I have loads of reading to finish up for class tomorrow. After that, I think I'm going to relax with a good book that's just for me and not a professor.

message 124: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Loves 'Em Lethal (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 9851 comments Mod
You definitely need to get some relaxation in with the studying, Rachel. Pleasure reading helped keep me sane when I was in professional skill.

I'm going to take it easy. I haven't been feeling well, and kind of overdid it earlier in the week. I have some books to read and reviews to write, but I can do that sitting down!

message 125: by Duchess Nicole (new)

Duchess Nicole | 154 comments I'm studying too :( Anatomy and Physiology. Either this stuff is ten times harder than my other classes, or I'm just getting old!!! Ive not had much reading time lately

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 9851 comments Mod
You can do it, Duchess. Flash cards are great for memorizing anatomy and physiology terms.

message 127: by Duchess Nicole (new)

I also used mnemonics that made sense to me, and word/picture associations.

If you can, also learn the Latin roots. They allow you to guess what the terms are by breaking them down.

Renee Nicole | 30 comments Happy Friday everyone!!! Hope the weekend is AWESOME to you all!

I have a (very rare) three day weekend, plus tickets to the Blondie/Devo concert on Sunday. Woohoo! :-)

It's funny u say that, Lady D... I just realized that my AP II text has a fold out Latin prefix/suffix section, and it is AMAZING!!! I'm smacking myself for not being more thorough in my exploration of my book. If I'd have memorized these sooner, these terms would be soooo much more logical!

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do that you took A and P?

I don't mind at all. I'm a veterinarian. My undergrad degrees are in Biomedical Science and Veterinary Science. So I had my share of anatomy/physiology and biological classes. You learn the best ways of getting that large amount of information on your brain. I also taught medical terminology since I've been out of school, and I loved it. It's fun thinking of ways to learn the terms.

The root words help so much. We didn't have the terminology classes, so I kind of learned that part backwards.

Duchess Nicole | 154 comments Boy, you should steal my husband away! He would love to be a vet. Though herpetology is his special love. We practically have a zoo here at home already. I wish that he would go for it, but I think he feels too old to launch such a long undertaking.

Just from seeing your posts and the way you "talk," I bet you would be a great caregiver, be it human or animal! I wish we lived a bit closer. I'd totally bring you our myriad of furry/slithery creatures!!

That's so cool that your hubby is into reptiles. They are very special as far as care. I especially love tortoises.

I've always loved medicine and the idea of healing. My mom said I tried to bring home animals all the time.

That's awesome! I'm very glad that we have the pets that we do. I think it teaches empathy to kids. My daughters do the same thing, especially the oldest...she won't even let us kill wasps :)
My hubs actually breeds ball pythons and leopard geckos. They're different, for sure!

And I'm off to bed! Have a great night!

Good night!

Lauren (laurenjberman) Happy Friday!
Just gave the dog his before winter bath and now I'm exhausted! In addition to the actual bath, we went out so that he could dry in the sun and then he got out of his leash and I had to chase him all over the neighborhood. Well, at least he's clean...

Today is the second day of autumn. I am so ready for it. I love the season of autumn, although winter is my favorite. I hope the weather continues to cool off and is seasonal.

Did everyone have a good weekend?

message 140: by Nomad (new)

Nomad The High Holy Days ended at sunset today. I must say it was a very hectic 10 days. Rosh Hoshannah and Yom Kippur can really take it out of you. I love fall for all the holidays though. October will bring Sukkout and Halloween and I enjoy both of them very much, with Thanksgiving bringing up the rear in it's festive and delicious fashion.

I love the holiday season! Even though it exhausts me.

Winter is my absolute favorite season as well. I am a cold weather person. I love when the temp goes down. I bundle up in my clothes or get under a blanket and snuggle. I'm hoping we get a colder winter than we did last year.

Gwen (gwenk) | 161 comments My second favorite season is Winter. I love it! I can hardly wait to put on a sweater, get in that Christmas season feeling, hear Christmas music, watch Christmas movies, cook Christmas dinner, put up my real Christmas tree, smell the pine all through the house and just enjoy the ambiance of the season. Can you tell it's my absolute favorite holiday! :)
