Allison (aturner78) | 4 comments I love Kristen Ashley's Colorado Mountain series and her SUPER ALPHA MALES. I'm thinking of starting her unfinished hero series. Any thoughts? Any other suggestions?

message 252: by Dana (new)

Dana | 28 comments Allison, I would recommend any and all of Kristen Ashley's books!

What a long day! Had to take my daughter to a doctor's appointment. Ortho type. She ended up having to get a removable type "cast". Some kind of plastic thingy they mold to her arm so she can't move it. We were there about 3 hours. It's an hour and 1/2 drive to and another hour and 1/2 back. Long day ☺

Oh no. Did she break her arm or sprain it? That's rough. Sorry for the long day, Pamela.

She has had problems with it for a while. She injured it about a year ago and it was xrayed - no breaks. But she has complained about it hurting so we took her to the doctor finally and they suspect a ligament may be torn.

Anna D. | 44 comments There are some days (many days!) when I'm in a middle of a really good book and I find myself sacrificing sleep, time with loved ones, times with friends, time to do pretty important and necessary things - like studying, housework, exercise - in the real world in order to finish a book!! I can't be alone in this. So has anyone found a way to quench addictive reading behavior to find normalcy in a middle of a raging reading storm??

I've passed on parties, dates, and dinners with friends/family because I would rather go home to my book. Then later I feel guilty because common sense sinks in and I know that while the book would have waited for my return..the event I passed on didn't.

Anna, when I was a young teenager I would by pass justa bout everything to read my books. I even stayed up til the wee hours of the morning on school nights! The shame! haha! Most teens were out TPing houses and sneaking out and doing all kinds of stuff but not me ☺

I've had a fwe "burnouts" through the years. Times when I just couldn't read. Didn't feel like reading! Gasp!! Those are the times I've made myself get out and enjoy life.

message 258: by Anna D. (new)

Anna D. | 44 comments Thank you Pamela! I've only discovered the joy of [and my addiction to] historical romance July of 2012 so I don't think I'm close to burning out yet. Every couple of weeks or so I find myself the complete opposite of "burned out" and hibernating a good chunk of a weekend with a good book. I love it, but it's making me unproductive and sometimes unsocial...

Well, in my teens and 20's I enjoyed life, worked hard, and reading was just a passing thing I did every once in a while. Maybe now is my time to read. All things in good time, right?

Thanks to this thread for letting me get that out of my system!

I started reading at 10 years old and devoured every harlequin and gothic novel my mom and grandma had. My first burnout came well into my 20s and didn't last too long. Then my 2nd burnout came in my late 30's and lasted about 3 or 4 years. I've been reading strong since for about 10 years.

message 260: by Anna D. (new)

Anna D. | 44 comments LOL!!! oh my! ok, so i guess I'll be in my 40's for my first burn out. hahaha!

what do you think brought on the 3-4 year burnout?

message 261: by Pamela(AllHoney), Danger Zone (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 1706 comments Mod
I truly don't know. I got busy with work and family and just didn't have the urge to read. I even got rid of almost all my books. I kept a small box of about 20 or so books that I just couldn't talk myself into getting rid of and one day I saw them and just picked one up and started reading again.

message 262: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments I didn't really have a burnout, but I had to take a long break from buying/reading for a while after my lay off in 2008. The last couple of years now, I have continued my collection. And it's back with a Vengeance lol. So many great groups here with great recommendations. I feel as if I my online and shelf at home is going to be filled endlessly with TBR books lol.

I don't think I've ever been truly burned out where I stopped reading. I've had book slumps, but I think reading is such an integral part of my life, I can't imagine not reading. I am a bit of an introvert, so I'm bad about refusing invitations to stay at home and read. I'm working on that though.

message 265: by Cherrie (new)

Cherrie (self-describedkindleaddict) | 114 comments I read avidly as a teenager and in my early twenties as a way of escaping a crappy family life. Then in my late twenties, and into my thirties, I went to college and then nursing school, while starting a family that included a wonderful husband and twin boys. After beginning my enormously rewarding career as a RN, I returned to college for my Bachelors degree (also in nursing) and had my daughter, who is now three years old. Through those years I continued to work to overcome my difficult childhood, and I also battled a devastating case of post-partum depression. During all that time I did not read for pleasure. At all.
In the Summer of last year I bought myself a Kindle and rediscovered my love of reading. God, I never realized how much I missed it. Immersing myself in a well written book feeds my soul. I know that might sound dramatic, but taking the time for myself, to do something that I truly love, is a way for me to invest in myself. I love it!

message 266: by Anna D. (new)

Anna D. | 44 comments Cherrie, I bought my Nook around the same time you got your Kindle and it was my best purchase of 2012!

Good for you! You work hard as a nurse and a mother, you deserve the time doing what you love!

I'm so glad that getting a Kindle rekindled your love of reading, Cherrie! A good book is such a great way to wind down.

message 268: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments Cherrie, that isn't dramatic at all =D That love you feel is what makes us all bookworms hehe. Glad you've returned to your love of reading!

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments I got me a comfy new chair a few weeks ago for my new reading chair, and I haven't been able to use it yet because of all the OT at work. I may have a day off coming up Wed, gonna make me some martinis and not do a darned thing but sit in that chair and get lost in some fictional worlds lol

That sounds so fun, Sky! It's great to curl up with a book and just relax. I did some major housework this morning and I am worn out right now. Trying to rest and check in online with ya'll and get some reading done!

message 273: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments Oh Lady D, I am so behind on housework just the thought alone of what's left to do there makes me want to lock myself up even more to my books haha. Whatcha reading, lady?

It was bad, Sky, because I hadn't felt like cleaning the floors lately. I can't stand dirt and uncleanliness, but I just wasn't up to doing it for a while. We have laminate floors and they show dirt really clearly. With two cats, it can get dusty and hairy. I have vertigo, so it's hard to a lot of stuff that requires standing and walking around for long periods. My legs are killing me now!

I just finished

I finished.Ironskin, which was pretty good and just started The Black Book of Secrets. Too soon to tell on it. My library is so good, so I have a stack of books from there to finish before they are due.

message 275: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments Awh, I wish I could help! I know what you mean though, between my dog and cat with wood flooring and laminate in different parts of the house, I feel like I have to constantly sweep more than I really have to, I see the fur or dirt, I twitch.

I actually really miss having carpet lol. I can just do a vacuum over it every couple days or something.
I am behind on laundry, dishes, sweeping, mopping, groceries, dusting, scrubbing, my plants are dying because they have overgrown in their pots LOL omg the list goes on.

I have been working like 6-7 days a week and am about dead when I get home from 12 hour shifts, so my house is just begging for a clean. I hate feeling like a slob too >.>

You're so sweet!

Oh I'm so sorry to hear you're having to work so much, Sky. I hope things settle down for you. Just take care of what you can do. Having some housechores undone isn't the end of the world. *Hugs*

I don't miss carpet because of the allergens that build up, and my sister has asthma. Plus, cat vomit is so tough to get out carpet, if I can be blunt!

Ironskin was pretty good. I'm writing my review right now. If you like Jane Eyre and faerie, I think you'll enjoy it.

message 278: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments Awh, sometimes all you need is a hug, thanks! hahah *hug!*

You know, now that you mention it, recalling on all the times my dog ate too fast or got into the trash and puked on the carpet at the last place, that was a nightmare. Maybe sticking to wood and laminate is best haha.

I love Fae lore tales! I have actually been looking for some really good Fae series, I can't find recommendations anywhere

Stephanie I am so sorry for your loss. I have lost a pet before and people don't realize how close you can become with your pets. Sometimes the only thing that can compete with that type of unconditional love is children. Even when they are a pain; they can be so cute while doing it.

message 295: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah-fantasyaddict-pickle) Just a quick random question, is it just me or are a lot of women turned off by men with facial hair?

Personally I love a little facial hair stubble, goatees I love them not so keen on full beards but still aren't men supposed to look....well manly

message 296: by Kim (new)

Kim | 134 comments I don't mind a goatee on the right face, but it all depends on the guy.

message 297: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments I agree. Certain jaw's and chins just have that "right" look with goatees. It's rare I find a man who can pull them off though!

message 298: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Loves 'Em Lethal (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 9851 comments Mod
I'm not big on facial hair. Occasionally, some guys look good with it, but I prefer clean shaven.

message 299: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 65 comments Eeep, I love a lil' rugged look on a man's face. I think it's that ol' country/Cali girl in me LOL I love to rub my hands all over a scruffy face!

message 300: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah-fantasyaddict-pickle) I so agree with you, I couldnt imagine not liking a bit of scruffy man hair. I am yet to find a man who can pull of a full beard without looking like a bear. It's strange though it seems to be more of a trend for men on the cover of romance books to be clean shaven and look about 19 what happened to rugged men?
